Customer Reviews of Conair SU1W Sound Therapy, SilverCustomer Review: Not tested by its designers Summary: 2 Stars
Most of the sound loops are very harsh-sounding and give me a headache instead of helping me sleep.
The mode I got it for, white noise, is one of the worst. Other samples seem to be as long as 20 seconds, the white noise sample is about 2 seconds long. The brain is very good about picking out patterns - especially when it is such a short sample. Imagine hearing a pattern looping over and over all night long... not fun. It's sad, too, because it would be so easy to design something to generate true white noise. Maybe add some options to adjust the frequency range and you're done.
My wife got one of the noise generators that is a fan with some adjustments to control the air flow. This works much better, but could be made into an electronic device that would cost less than 1/4 what that thing costs.
Customer Review: Works well, inexpensive Summary: 4 Stars
I got this item to keep my pair of lovebirds company while I am at work. When searching for a "sound therapy" player, I found that most were alarm clock/radio type items. This product plays natural sounds and does nothing else, which is what I needed.
The sounds are clear and soothing. The buttons & (very large) volume control are easy to use (labels for the sound choices are small, though).
I set it on "tropical jungle" (lots of birdie sounds) during the day and "summer night" (a "crickety" hum) at bedtime. My little birds seem to be relaxed by it.
The only disappointment is the "songbirds" setting, which is prominently a running water sound with very faint bird singing in the backround.
Overall an excellent product for its purpose with a good price.
Customer Review: Great price for a great sound machine Summary: 5 Stars
One of the best purchases I've made in a while.
I just moved into a new apartment that sits adjacent to a stop light on a major road. Harleys, bass-thumpers and screeching drunks roll by on a regular, nightly basis. I bought this machine and now i sleep like a baby. Plus, the timer allows me to turn it on without worrying whether or not I'll hear my alarm.
I only use it for the "white" noise option and have it near my bed, so i don't have to turn it up past mid-level. The sound has a bit of a cycle that is apparent sometimes, but nothing that has an inescapable rhythm.
One note: Cell phones do cause some interference with the sound, but this is easily correctable by placing the phone a few feet away.
Customer Review: For the price it is great Summary: 4 Stars
We bought this for about 15 dollars for our baby that is on the way b/c a book we were reading said to buy an adult noise machine for higher volume and no lights. She is not here yet, so we have been using it. It works well so far. We have had it for three months. The sounds are not mp3 quality, but it is a white noise machine. Honestly, the static setting is all we were looking for. As an adult, I would say there are a few settings to stay away from. I find patterns easily, so the waves and t-storms don't work for me. I stay up focusing on the repeat of the noise clip. It is a 30-60 sec. clip. The rain settings are the best. But my husband is different, he falls right to sleep. Hopefully our little one will be like him. Hope this helped.
Customer Review: Good for the price.... not great Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this item to help me sleep during the day as I work nights... however it was not the right one for me. First off I could hear the "clicking" that occured every few seconds to restart the sound. And it drove me up the wall. But the thing that really did me in was the fact that whenever anyone would call my cell, or anyone in my buildings cell, the unit would make a horrible screaching noise... now i've had that with speakers, but I was not expecting it with a sound machine. Needless to say I was constantly being woken by a horrible screaching, so I returned it and got Marpac 580 Sound Screen & SleepMate Sound Conditionerinstead.
