Customer Reviews of Conair Xtreme Instant Heat Multisized Hot Rollers, PinkCustomer Review: Great Rollers! Summary: 4 Stars
This is my first set of hot rollers, and overall I'm very pleased. The set is compact and attractive, and there are more than enough rollers included to set my thick, straight, just-past-shoulder length hair. The curl holds nicely even after just ten minutes, and the heated clips are a nice touch. I was unsure about using different sized rollers, but I did some research on how to use them and found that using the largest rollers on top, medium ones in the middle, and smallest on the bottom of my head as advised works great. You can also use just one or two sizes in batches, letting them reheat for a minute each time for curls that are all the same size.
A few notes:
The rollers don't heat as quickly as advertised. Even though the indicator dot turns white in about a minute, the rollers are still quite cool. I let them heat for 3-5 minutes, which isn't a problem for me. I can get dressed and make my tea while I wait for them to heat and I still have plenty of time in the morning.
The clips sometimes leave kinks in my hair, but I think with practice that can be avoided. I do wish there was some kind of clip storage, but I just kept the box it came in and keep them in there for now.
I would recommend this product to friends, it really can't be beat for the price.
Customer Review: I really like these rollers. Summary: 4 Stars
They heat up really fast. I do have to use a little hair spray because I have very straight, baby fine shoulder length hair. But the set stays in all day and even the next day. My hair is layered at the end, up about 2 inches, and I mainly use the big rollers to curl/flip up the ends and to add body to the rest. Anyhow I get so many complements when I roll my hair with these rollers. Everyone thinks I went to the hair dresser. I happen to like the hinge clips but they do leave little dents in my hair if I put too much hair on the rollers. But these hinge clips are easier for me to use than the old-fashioned wire clips. Also, when I use alot of the rollers they are quite heavy. The rollers don't get too hot to touch either so no more burned fingers :-) and they are very gentle on my fine hair which is also great. All in all, I am very pleased with them. I use them every day now because they take so little time to heat up and set my hair. When I purchased them I met another lady who recommended them as well and she had much thicker hair than I do. She said she really liked them but that the top broke off and that makes it difficult to travel with them. I do plan on traveling with them as well so I am being extra careful not to break the top.
Customer Review: A revolution for the hairstyle-impaired! Summary: 5 Stars
For someone like me who is clueless about how to style hair, these are a dream come true. If curling irons have always made you look like abstract art, and not in a good way, and you've resigned yourself to having the hairstyle of an 11-year-old for the rest of your life, don't be dis"tress"ed any longer!
The Conair Ion Shine rollers are very easy to use, take very little time (five to 10 minutes to heat, a few minutes to roll, and about 10 minutes running around the house looking like Medusa while they set) and the results are gorgeous, natural-looking and last all day.
I am told by my hairdresser that they won't damage hair, either. I've been using them for months and my fine hair (that's meant as an adjective, not a self-congratulation) is as healthy as can be.
The only negative, and it's a minor one, is that it's a bit cumbersome if you have to transport it from room to room, and if you don't grab it firmly by the base you can snap off the dome (or at least I can). But this shouldn't be an issue in general.
(Incidentally, I wound up buying another set for everyday use and put the one with the snapped lid in the new set's box. I keep it in my suitcase as my travel set.)
Customer Review: Great, if you can keep the rollers in! Summary: 3 Stars
Different hair has different needs. With that in mind, I'd say these rollers would have been fantastic except that I could not keep them in my hair with the provided clips. In fact, I can't keep MOST rollers in my baby-fine hair, so this was not a big shock.
The provided clips are convenient in that they're all the same size; but, they're really too big for the smallest-sized rollers. They fit fine on the bigger rollers, but they are still much too narrow to keep my super-straight hair from unwinding off the roller.
I contacted Conair, and they were fantastic about it. They offered to send me some alternative clips for free. Unfortuantely, they were the wire kind (even narrower than these plastic ones), so didn't solve my problem. I ended up having to return this set and get a Remington one instead with longer, fitted, snap-on clips to hold my hair onto the rollers better.
If you don't generally have a lot of trouble with rollers falling out, these are otherwise very nice. The flocked surface makes rolling easy and is kind to your hair. The rollers get plenty hot (hotter than the alternative set I got) and there's an included pouch to store the clips in.
Customer Review: Awesome for me and my hair type. Summary: 5 Stars
I have thick, straight, just below shoulder length hair. These rollers worked GREAT FOR ME!! I actually purchased them at a CVS Drug store and had some "cvs" bucks and some additional savings so I only paid about $18 for them. But I am very pleased. They were SO much easier to use than the ones with metal clips, they go in fast, come out fast, and I definitely had lots of body. SO many of the negative comments left for this product were from misuse. Yes they will burn your fingers if you touch the hot part, Yes if you drop the whole set the lid might crack (someone actually made that complaint!!), Yes if you don't roll them into your hair correctly you can end up with kinked ends, Yes if your hair is extremely thick and long the plastic clips may not be big enough to hold the roller in place, Yes if your hair is super thin and short you may have difficulty keeping them in place, and Yes there is a place to store the clips - its called a vanity drawer (or even a zip lock bag would do the trick!!) Use common sense and judgement when setting your expectations with this product. For me - with rather average, easy to curl hair - they are great and I am very pleased with my purchase.
