I'm in my late 20s and a lifetime nail / cuticle biter. I bought this product not because my hands looked nasty (although they did), but because I was told (twice) that my incessant nail biting was making me look incredibly unprofessional during meetings and actually impacting my career. Yikes!
This product has cured what endless amounts of money spent on manicures couldn't fix - it's been about 3 weeks and my hands don't even go near my mouth. I'm rating it 4-stars based on a few caveats:
1) I didn't read carefully and was surprised when the 3 containers arrived - they were tiny! Each container holds 0.25 oz which is a lot less than what I imagined based on the product picture. It's no big deal, you don't need any more.
2) The horrendous taste lasts for a while, but they do wear off after washing your hands. I found that the taste became "manageable" for an addicted biter after about 3 washes. Be prepared to reapply throughout the day.
3) The cream is quite sticky. I'd apply and then have to wash my hands to remove the stickiness - which obviously counts towards your 3 washes mentioned above.
4) It could actually impact your meal choices as finger foods become a non-option.
Side note: It did, however, help me stop eating my comfort food of choice - french fries (for now).
All in all, it's been a really helpful product for me and should work well for anyone who has a nail biting habit.

My seven year old son traded thumb sucking for fingernail biting and still sucked his thumb at night so we decided we had to do something. Many Mavala Stop reviews said it made the child throw up, so I opted for this one which didn't have quite as many "throw up" reviews. We have followed the directions to a T so far. We got the product and talked about quiting for about a week. Then we coated every fingernail at bed time and coated the entire thumb that he sucks. The first night he tried to suck his thumb he almost threw up and tried sucking at least twice. The second night he didn't try at all. He still reports that he tried to suck his thumb every 4-5 days or so. The directions indicate using the product for 3 weeks. We are 2 days away from 2 weeks of using the product. He wants to quit and cooperates putting it on. He also said that the product wears off about mid afternoon the next day, but we don't reapply since he doesn't seem to be biting. He isn't a big hand washer so I don't know if that would wash it off. Since we are using this product we are foregoing reminding of hand washing at the moment. For those frustrated parents out there with children that bite their nails? From one that has gnawed his nails down to painful levels (Not even the PAIN, stopped me!) The first thing I have recognized is that the individual MUST WANT TO STOP! That one psychological hurdle has stopped me for 40 years. Neither Mother nor wife has been able to dissuade me from my mission of nail biting.
Once I decided for myself that it was time to quit, I got this treatment. It works nearly TOO GOOD!!! Only problem that I have now it that I have to make sure that I do not get this stuff on anything other than my nails. I had this on the finger side of my fingertips (opposite of nails...) and tried to eat popcorn and other finger foods. Only took about 3 bites to recognize I could not take the taste (maybe a new dietary tactic?)
So in conclusion, this stuff REALLY WORKS! Just be careful to only get it on those items you DO NOT WANT Near any taste buds!!!

I was optimistic after reading the mostly positive reviews, however I was highly disappointed. If you don't apply the product several times in heavy coats you don't taste anything and it needs to be reapplied frequently (at least daily). Also, while using the product it seemed that the taste would happen several seconds after going to bite my nails which made it rather ineffective as a control mechanism. And when eating or drinking anything if you just so happen to touch or lick anywhere near your nail it gives your food what seems to be a more bitter and effective bad taste compared to your nails themselves. I started to use a similar nail polish product but did not like the shine and how frequently it needed to be applied but it was much more effective and much cheaper as well. I suggest the nail polish over this product.Customer Review: works better than anything we've tried

Our 4 year old son is a nail biter. His fingers were a mess, he would actually bite the skin off of the top of his fingers and his cuticles that were constantly in a state of healing. He regularly complained that his fingers hurt, we tried a few "nail polish" products that either didn't work or flaked off, the teachers at his daycare also were not willing to apply this stuff 2-3 times a day. Then we bought this Control-it and it worked very well and lasted most of the day, we applied it in the morning and it lasts until 3 or so even with hand washing. It stayed on his fingers and tastes really nasty but its not toxic. It took about 2 weeks for his nails to heal with applying it twice a day. I would recommend this to anyone with a nail biter or thumb sucker! it works very well.
