I was sick of nose bleeds and the dry winter weather last year so I decided to pick up a humidifier. In Poland where I'm from people used to hang ceramic tube shaped dishes on a little wire filled with water on a radiator in each room to help and keep the air moist...over time the water would evaporate and help with any congestion as well as it helped combating the drying heat. I missed that so I was very happy to find this adorable product. It's not as inconspicuous as something serious looking but it's cute and works well! I love the variety of shapes and sizes.
I love cows so that's why I chose this one. It has a gallon capacity and I make sure to fill it with fresh water every single time I use it. I also purchased the demineralization filter just to make sure no mineral gunk builds up. I always let it dry out in the morning after using it and never leave the water sitting in it if it's not in use. Water vapor is absorbed better so it's very important that the water is as pure as possible.
After few uses my nose bleeds stopped and my skin felt better, I have a lot of books in my room so I was cautious not to use it too often, overtime the water vapors can damage wood and paper, so I don't use this daily but it's an amazing product for those who have asthma or allergies or are sick with flu and colds. My cats would initially investigate it with terrified eyes but pretty soon they figured it's not a new bath system for them and got over their fears. It's easy to control the stream form light to heavy and it emits a soothing sound. Please make sure to follow instruction and keep it in a stable place without any towels or fabrics underneath the machine to keep it running smooth.

I needed a humidifier because the air gets very dry in the winter and I wake up with a sore throat, stuffy nose, dry mouth, lips, skin etc. etc. I bought the Penguin and I couldn't be happier. It's very quite and this was important. I don't keep mine on the high setting but the medium setting. On high you do hear a trickling sound but it's soothing. On the medium setting every now and then you hear the water adjusting (it trickles down to the base of the humidifier as it's needed to evaporate) and trust me I don't like noise and I can sleep through the night with my penguin. It is quite.
As for cleaning I wipe mine down with one of those kitchen antiseptic cloths then wipe it again with just water. As for the inside I guess you could get a baby bottle scrubber and stick it in there if needed but I just put a couple of drops of bleach 3-4 drops in a half gallon of water, swish it around, pour out, then rise it a couple of times with tap water. I'm a nurse so I do think about germs, but I rinse it well enough so that I'm not breathing in misted bleach fumes. Like I said just a couple of drops of bleach in half gallon of water then rinse well. I do this once every two weeks. I've had no problems. I read a lot of the reviews and perhaps if this isn't working 4-5 month from now I'll complain but I'm happy with it and I don't wake up feeling like I just slept in the desert. Be careful of which one you buy. I read the frogs mist comes out of his eyes and there is no way to adjust the direction that the mist blows. The penguins head turns so the mist can be directed and comes out of his peak. I would think the elephant would be good to if you wanted to control the direction of the mist.

We have had our frog humidifier for about 3 years now and we LOVE it! It is easy to operate, VERY quiet, and I love that there are SO many different settings so you can adjust exactly how much humidity you want. You can set it to where you can't even see it reallly coming out OR all the way cranked up to where the cool mist is pouring out. The dial turns very smoothly and does not click or make loud noises so if you need to crank it up during the night you won't wake your child up. On the frog model the mist shoots out his two eyes and provides a very even ouput.
The only thing I don't like is cleaning it. I don't think it's any harder to clean than any other humidifier, but ours did get pink stuff after about 3 days of use. I found the PROTEC humidifier cleaner balls though and they have been a life-saver! They are a MUST-HAVE if you have any humidifier. They each last 30 days and I don't have the pink slime nearly as fast. I clean the humidifier about every 10-14 days with one of the Protec balls. They sell them on here, but they are much cheaper at Walmart (about $3-4 each).
I love the frog humidifier so much that I am about to buy another humidifier (probably the cow) for my daughter's room. Both my kids have eczema and the extra hhumidity in the room at night REALLY helps their skin.
BUY IT is all I have left to say! They carry them at Target if you want to go and actually see them. You can tell from the way the dial turns on them that they are quality made. As I said, ours is 3 years old and we have never ever had a single problem with it!

My elephant humidifier has been in use (during fall and winter) for 14 months now, approx. 9 months of constant use. We heat with wood so a humidifier is a must. I've tried a lot of different humidifiers over the years and this is the best, beating out even the expensive ones. For one thing, this humidifier doesn't tend to get "icky" like my other humidifiers do. This product is simple, easy to use, easy to understand. You just fill the body with water, put the body in the base, and put the "head" on and you're good to go. The water tank ("body") is easy to carry, easy to fit under the faucet, easy to carry back to the base. The amount of mist is fully adjustable and it shuts off automatically when it's almost out of water. The only thing you need to watch for is that you place the head on properly. If it isn't seated just right, steam will come out of places in addition to the spot it should and you end up with a puddle. All you have to do to prevent that is watch it for a few seconds after turning it on to see that the steam is coming out the trunk (or eyes, or whatever, depending on the animal). If you see mist coming from under the head, then just adjust it until it's coming out the proper spot. The humidifier is quiet and after 14 months (9 months constant use), I haven't had a single problem. These are just adorable. I have the elephant, my Dad has the frog, and I'm getting ready to order the cow. I seriously do wish that Amazon would let the ratings be broken down into different categories as a single rating does not do justice to many items.
Take this product for example. I got the cow humidifier.
5 for the product's functionality and value. Simple in design, excellent at work. It is almost whisper quiet and does the job its job perfectly. You can vary the amount of moisture it throws out over a wide range using the knob. Capacity is also pretty good and I manage to eke out almost 4-5 nights on every refill. All this at an amazing price!
2 for the build quality (or it is Amazon shipping?). The first unit came with a huge crack on the main plastic housing. The item also looked dirty and scratched in general. Amazon immediately shipped a replacement unit.
The replacement unit came in packaged terribly. It looked like some amatuer had shoved the package into a box. Once again, the item was damaged, with the LED indicator dislodged. There were some scratches on the plastic inside and it looked like something that happened during manufacturing. I guess they tried to cut costs as much as they could!
I would hate to blame Amazon shipping as I have never had any issues with Amazon ever. Lets hope that this is a one-off thing.
Overall, I would totally recommend this product. I think it does the job right at a great price. Just hope that you get a good piece!
