Customer Reviews of Crane Adorable 1 Gallon Cool Mist HumidifierCustomer Review: We LOVE Mr. Cool Mist Guy!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
We did extensive research on hot/cool humidifiers and HANDS DOWN, even amongst the ranks of it's own other animal and character peers, Mr.Cool Mist Guy (that's what the adorable kid on YouTube called him) was the best. (btw, you gotta go check out that video. Crane should give him commissions)
Our Mr. Cool Mist Guy is absolutely soundless, does exactly what he is touted to do without leaks or drips. He is also extremely easy to clean with no small crevasses that are hard to get into, and in my opinion, that was a very strong selling feature (well, besides the YouTube kid) being that I wouldn't have to worry about anything mungy growing inside and spewing out into the air by the machine that was supposed to be helping us be healthier in the first place!
My husband has ceased thrashing around at night. We thought he was just a restless sleeper, or had sleep apnea, but it appears to be that in the dry air of the night, he just couldn't breathe! My 17 month old son is not getting up twice a night crying because HE can't breathe either! I am resting better and not waking up with headaches and assuming that the oxygen deprivation was the cause of those.
I'd like to thank Crane for an absolutely marvelous product, and Mom/Dad of the cute video kid, thanks to you too. Had it not been for that video...well, that made my decision to purchase the penguin, aka Mr. Cool Mist Guy, final.
Customer Review: Cute, Quiet - but puts out white dust Summary: 4 Stars
I so wanted to give this product 5 stars, however, we have white dust in our babies' room (it even got in to our CD player). I wasn't sure whether to ding the humidifier itself or the filter, but I'm dinging the humidifier.
We bought the Penguin for our babies' room and then bought the Elephant and Dragon for other parts of our house.
pros:
-cute
-quiet (penguin and cow)
-appears to put out a lot of moisture (I don't have a gauge to measure)
cons:
-trickling noise (dragon) - of the three humidifiers, the dragon sounds like water is swirling like a waterfall. I don't know if its the Dragon design or just a fluke. I can sleep through anything but my husband is a light sleeper, but even he can sleep through it.
-must fill daily - we keep ours at halfway or beyond so we have to refill daily. I'm ok with it because its just part of our schedule - but I thought I would mention it.
Keep in mind you need to clean the base at least weekly if not more - but its really easy to clean.
One of my daughters LOVEs the penguin, she has to pet him every time she gets out of her crib ;)
I use the filters with mine, but I don't know whether they make a difference or not.
I obviously recommend this product since I went back out and bought more myself. For the price - this is a good little humidifier.
Customer Review: This company will not stand behind the "integrity" of their product. Summary: 1 Stars
I received this product at my baby shower off my registry. The idea of it is really awesome.
So, allergy season comes around, and its time to take this thing out of the box for my daughter. It doesn't work. I open the manual, trouble shoot. The green light comes on, the waters full, I hear it humidifying, but the vapors aren't rising. I remove the water reservoir, and theres all the humidity, collecting on the bottom.
Naturally, I call the company to tell them I just tried to use their product, trouble-shooted it as the book said, and it didn't work on its first run.
They say send it back, and we'll send you a new one. I say, do I have to pay for shipping, they say yes. I say how much, they say 12 to 14 dollars. I say, "Well thats half the price of the product - What kind of warranty is that. I just opened this product for the first time, it doesn't work, and you guys can't pay for the shipping? I'm going to purchase another humidifier, and go online and right horrible reviews about this product".
So here I am. If you buy this product, and have problems with it (or it doesnt work) YOU, the customer, for their manufacturing errors, are going to end up paying for 1/2 of another humidifier.
This company will not stand behind the "integrity" of their product. 1 star, I would not recommend this to friends.
Customer Review: Have the elephant Summary: 5 Stars
My elephant is wonderful !! I don't know if the amount of humidity it puts out can change a hygrometer but I do know I breath so much easier. I was having problems with frequent nose bleeds -- nothing serious, just due to the dry air of a gas forced-air furnance in an old house. The nose bleeds have stopped.
The unit sets about 4 feet from my bedside. The setting I use is about half-way on the dial. Running 6-8 hours daily, about every three days I have to refill. To ease the refill procedure, I use a deep hard-plastic bowl an inch or so wider than the widest part of the reservoir. It's deep enough to turn the reservoir upside down and prevents it from leaning too far either way -- kinda stabilizing it so my klutzy self doesn't knock it over during refill.
Being an ultrasonic device it is best to use tap water or filtered water. Distilled and de-mineralized water doesn't work as well.
With most humidifiers and vaporizers, they are a bit difficult to clean. Always, always, always, wash the reservoir every 7-10 days. I use very warm water and a couple drops of dish detergent followed by a thorough rinse with clean water. The silver plate in the base, just wipe with a soft cloth to remove any residue. I sop up the water in the base and allow it to dry completely, for seveal hours, before reassembly.
Customer Review: WOWWIE QUIET! Durability pending. Summary: 4 Stars
We had a bout of croup recently. We didn't have a humidifier with us and bought one. We had previously owned a Relion Ultrasonic humidifier which was quite and put out a lot of mist but was a pain to clean. Initially, we bought a Vick's unit that looked very much like the Relion. The Vick's model was really really noisy! We replaced it with a Hunter evaporative version that was also very noisy and the pump kept cavitating. Both of those were returned quickly!
So after reading reviews on this site, we bought the penguin version of this Crane humidifier.
WOWWIE is this unit quiet!! Really very quiet! You turn it on and there is an ever so faint noise - the sound of water droplets falling back down the mist pipe and back into the water is *louder* than the mechanism at full operation.
Mist output is a little low and the mist jet only shoots out about 2 feet or so *and* the jet angle is low -- thus you have to place it up on a stool or nightstand very close to the head of a child with croup to get maximum benefit.
If this unit output a little more mist and if the jet nozzle was more articulated, it would be a big improvement.
This unit gets 6 stars for quiet and 2 to 3 stars for output.
These are FIRST impressions. Durability will be determined later.
