I was hesitant to buy this considering so many 1 stars...but ever since we started using our heater I have been waking up with a dry nose and mouth. This is bad because it makes it easier for you to get sick! So I finally gave in and bought this little guy, and so far he has been doing a great job. The only difficult thing is filling it up with water. I use filtered drinking water from my fridge and it can be a little cumbersome to fill (I have to use cups). Emptying is a breeze although you must be careful not to push on the stopper apparatus. I plan to follow the maintenance instructions (bleach it out after 4 uses).
BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING READ THE INSTRUCTIONS! They are there for a good reason.
Overall, so far so good. If anything catastrophic occurs I will edit this review. This cute little penguin makes sleeping a whole lot more pleasant during these early winter months.

An important point is to NEVER TILT THE HUMIDIFIER WHEN IT IS FULL! It will leak into the bottom and cause the vapor to be trapped. So always install the body vertically down and do not lift it or tilt it in any way afterward.

I have found that the handle can actually hold the body up so you can set it down on the counter or something. I use filtered water from my fridge and so need to fill up a cup to get water into the body (the body won't fit into the water dispenser on the fridge).
Even using filtered water, I still get mineral deposits inside the body (the white area), and if I leave the water in it starts to smell moldy! So I need to be more diligent about bleaching the inside.

We bought the Adorable Crane mist humidifier only last month. I am tech myself so I knew the part Ultrasonic Atomizing piezo ceramic (Nebulizer)was a few dollar item. Cheap to replace. Just unplug the cord take screws out, open and take 4 screws that hold in the nebulizer and plug in the new unit. Easy enough, but Crane's policy in warranty, or out of warranty is for that customer to cut the power cord on the faulty unit 4" from the plug end, send along the water tank filler cap in a padded envelop along with a check for $25 for shipping and handling. I was not a happy camper because the part that went bad is only a few bucks. I will buy from a more reliable company the next time that is not afraid to sell parts. There is NO guarantee that if I buy another Crane that it will last any longer, and no matter it's STILL going to cost $25 for something that only costs $39 Crane policy is below... Wally

Needed the extra humidity for toddler's room and new infant, despite whole-house humidifier set at 40% their rooms hovered around 20-30%. Had the "Adorable" cow for 1.5 years, which sent the "cool mist" straight up through the ears. The cow was certainly adorable in form [aesthetically], but function wasn't ideal because the straight-up mist meant that the nearby wall/window got coated with condensate most nights. Also after 1.5 years the pump/mechanism was starting to click pretty loudly [loud enough to hear on the baby monitor], and it got pretty gunky inside despite regular cleanings. Probably to be expected for the price, and I probably didn't clean it more than biweekly. Bought 2 penguins (one for each kids' room) because the mist comes out the beak more horizontally...ie into the room rather than straight up.
On arrival, one of the 2 penguins didn't function at all...had to send it back to Amazon. Probably just crummy QC at the chinese plant, no big surprise. Luckily, Amazon's return policy and punctuality rocked my world. A new one arrived 2 days after filling out online RMA form, way before they received the defective one. Pretty cool. Now both of them work and my daughter's wall isn't soaked. Certainly as adorable as the cow, and she likes blue things at the moment.
In summary, nice product for the price. The penguins' beak sends the mist nearly horizonally out into the room, so the walls/windows nearby don't get soaked. Problem solved. Both kids breathe easy at night even when they have colds/sniffles.
And Amazon's return service ROCKS MY WORLD.

This is one cute humidifier. Very quiet too. I didn't use it extensively yet so I can't say much about the efficiency. Need to wait for the winter time to really test this thing out. But as a piece of appliance, it surely is cute.
*** Update ***
I wish I could go back to change the rating to 1! The water tank broke when I filled it up the 4th time. I had it in the sink upside down to filled it up, and when I was done I tried to flip it right side up by stablizing it with the handle bar in one hand and the bottom in the other hand. The whole handle bar came off and the tank fell on my counter top. The fall created a big hole in the hard plastic tank and the whole tank of water gushed out. After cleaning up the mini flood I contacted the manufacturer's customer service, only to be told that it was a user error and I needed to purchase a replacement tank at my own cost. I couldn't believe my ears since it's obvious that it was a design issue of the handle bar itself. I think they know the problem but refuse to take responsibility for it.
If you get one, just make sure to be very careful with the water tank. It's made of hard plastic and gets very slippery when it's wet (e.g., when you spilled some water on it while refilling it). With a full tank of water it's heavy too. Since you are not allowed to stablize it with the handle bar, you'd better come up with a good way to flip it and put it back on to the base.

This humidifier works great for me. Following the instruction from the manual is very useful. When the shape of water spray is going down, it means the humidity is not quite low. As a result, I need to turn down the volumn. Several drops of water are accumulated at the mouth but they don't fall down to the floor at all. They fall into the head instead haha. You have to be careful when you wanna fill water. You have to turn off the power and carefully lift the body of penguin off the base. That won't make the floor wet. Water leakage is not the problem if you assemble a body to a base tight enough (they should be fitted).
Because this humidifier is sold separately from a filter, some people may have problem with dust in the air combined with the water spray.
I clean the place that I put this humidifier frequently to prevent the dust from the bottom of this humidifier because it is the place for a fan. Well, it should be better if you use a filter to make sure that all water spray is free from dust. It's really quiet though compared to my old one which is not an ultrasonic one. It is not only useful for low humidity room but also useful for hot weather because the water spray is cool. It almost works like an air cooler I have but this one is for only small space to be cooled haha. My room is not big though (about 200 square feet or less). This humidifier can increase humidity in my room quite well. Finally, it's cute!!!!
