I had many recommendations to get this humidifier because it is awesome. It seems like reviews for humidifiers are either love or hate and it was really hard to make a decision. We received it last night and filled it with water and set it on a table in the bedroom. It says not to put it on a wood table or carpet or a towel so my hubby went to get a plastic tray to put under it. When he got back he discovered it was leaking everywhere! We ran it to the bathroom and drained it. That is when we noticed a crack on the inside of it (in the base). Needless to say we are sending it back and I will never order a Crane again. A friend recommended the "Safety 1st Ultrasonic 360" sold at Target and I am going to run down there and get it. Hopefully it won't have a similar issue. I would give this item 0 stars if it was possible. I know some people have no problems with these at all and have them for years and years, but after this experience (and I really needed this humidifier because my daughter has a cold) I will never trust this brand.Customer Review: Can't be beat

I bought one for downstairs to make the Boston Ferns happy, and it works so well, I bought another one for my bedroom. Love them both, and they're so cute. Can't beat the price; I bought one $10 cheaper at WalMart which doesn't hold a candle to my little penguins.
Key Features:
- Quiet operation. There is a trickling sound which will make you happy if you are a fountain-person. I'm not, at all, but I got used to it quickly, even while going to sleep. Like white noise, now.
- Variable output. Mist is visible and you can crank it up, or keep it limited.
- Easy to fill.
- Runs for a long time. Even on highest output, generally for 10-12 hours.
- TURNS OFF when empty. It won't burn out.
CONS:
- Removing and replacing the reservoir always seems to splash, no matter how careful I am.
- The mist needs to be directed away from anything within a 3 foot radius or it will condense - found my blanket sopping at my feet at 3am the first time I tried it.

I have very dry skin and my apartment gets extremely dry if I turn on the heat so I definitely needed a humidifier. I was troubled by the high prices of supposedly top-shelf humidifiers and the fact that you need to change the filter every few months. As a lazy bachelor, that was no good for me. In steps the Crane Penguin. There's no filter pad you need to clean, and it's ridiculously cheap. Plus it's easy to move around and hasn't started molding or smelling yet.
The biggest advantage to this guy is just how quiet it is. Before, I'd be kept awake by the airplane jet engine of a humidifier, but I hardly even notice this guy. It really creates a tangible benefit when you're trying to fall asleep.
Also, the penguin shape is actually pretty cute, and I'm usually not one for cute. Every time I look at this humidifier, I'm transplanted back to my youth and rejoice at the loving memories.
Either way, I've bought 3 of these now and don't regret the purchases.

This penguin humidifier Crane Adorable 1 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier, Penguin Shape is adorable and effective. It sits on my dresser on its feet so the base is not in contact with the surface. The mist intensity is adjustable with the front knob. Filling the tank is a little tricky and it leaks a bit between filling the tank and setting the tank in the base, but once it's in place, everything is perfect. My only tinge of regret is maybe I should have gotten the elephant! After reading the reviews, and thoroughly vetting the humidifier (I thought) I ordered two of the penguin humidifiers. The first was for my daughter's room, the second would eventually be for our bedroom. I ran the humidifier per the instructions the first evening, ensuring the stream of mist wasn't saturating the floor. The result, the humidity in my daughter's room never got about 20%. She awoke the next day coughing and with a dry nose. The next evening I tried it on full throttle, despite the instructions. After running the whole night the room made it up to 25% humidity (with my former humidifier it got up to 40%). In my last attempt I simply removed the penguin's head, to see if that would result in better room saturation. Unfortunately, it led only to a very wet dresser and humidifier.
Besides all of these negative tests, I had to refill the penguin half-way into the evening, since the reservoir had run out.
