I bought this product after going through all the reviews. The product does what it says...I have seen considerable reduction in the white dust accumulation in the room and well as mineral deposits on the operating surface of the humidifier. I have used it only for 1 month now...and the filter is still working...
Cons:- Only problem i found was that the filter doesnt fit the humidifier perfectly. [To the first time users - this filter replaces the existing cap of the humidifier tank].
I own the Crane Penguin humidifier and the tank sits on the base perfectly with the original cap. But with the filter (even after securing it tightly to the tank) the tank doesn't sit perfectly on to its base...it remains a bit raised (due to the imperfection of the filter) and causes the water vapors to leak thru the sides...not a big deal though. And I am not sure whether it's a problem with the particular piece i bought.

This filter ruined my humidifier which had worked perfectly without it. Here is what happened to me. The humidifier, with filter in place, had been running for a couple of days when I noticed an odd smell upon entering the room. I determined it was coming from the humidifier, so I unplugged it and removed the water tank to take a look. To my shock, the bottom on the humidifier was filled with the amber colored pellets that once were inside the filter. The pellets filled up the area that should have been filled with water. The reservoir had water in it and the unit continued to run, but was overheating because the water wasn't able to flow. The heat damaged (melted) the nebulizer black ring so that the water just leaks right through the bottom now. I am glad that I found out before it caused a fire. Crane customer service has not responded to my email either.Customer Review: Useful!

We bought 2 Crane humidifiers and didn't think our water was hard enough to cause dust issues, so we decided not to order filters at the same time. Unfortunately our machines ended up producing enough of the dust to cause breathing issues for our asthmatic cat and leave a residue on the tanks, so we ordered filters for them about a week later. They have helped a lot! I kept the regular caps per the advice in some other reviews just in case, but we haven't had trouble with these filters at all. The machines still run very well and the filters fit both models (Dragon and Penguin) beautifully. Our only concern is the cost-effectiveness of having to keep these stocked at home, but since we only plan to run the humidifiers in the winter we aren't worrying at that just yet. In the meantime, we have been very happy with the filters!Customer Review: Good with some models

I bought this to use with the Duck Humidifier and it worked perfectly. However I got the Penguin a week later and I think the spring release (to trickle more water) does not work with the Penguin... I think it's not screwing on properly (in spite of trying a thousand times to do so). So if you got the penguin like a lot of folks, be aware this might be a waste of money.
Update: I contacted Crane and the service rep said this was probably a defect with the Penguin Humidifier, and to fill out the warranty card and send the severed power cord (gruesome!) to them and they will mail a replacement.
Update: I mailed them the cord and they, at no charge, shipped me a new Penguin, and it's working perfectly this winter with the filters. I guess the threading on some of the Penguins is off.

I got a lot of these Crane humidifiers. We have a lot of minerals in our water, so I got these filters. Some of the humidifiers made too much noise to use in a bedroom. They are extremely cute, though, and inexpensive.
I got white dust everywhere even with the filters, even after also using water run through another charcoal filter. If you are serious about these humidifiers, you need to use distilled water. Then you won't need these filters.
About the white dust, I mean literally everywhere, inside the DVD player for instance. I have quit using all of the Crane humidifiers and put them away. I was really sad about this, because they are so cute. They did raise the humidity about 10%. We live in the desert, it is very dry in the winter.
