Customer Reviews of Crane Demineralization Filter Cartridge for Crane Frog, Cow, Pig, Panda, Penguin and Elephant Cool Mist Humidifiers

Customer Review: Works pretty well
Summary: 4 Stars

All in all, this filter does a good job of filtering tap water for the Penguin humidifier. I have had absolutely no white powder on my surfaces since installation, and didn't even see any of the red color of the water that was warned about. The only negative is that apparently the dimensions of the filter's flange are slightly different than the filler cap that comes with the humidifier, as when the filter is installed, the Penguin's water reservoir sits JUST slightly higher than it does with the filler cap, and therefore some cool mist leaks out the back end of the Penguin. My kid thinks this looks comical (envision this in your mind) and when I contacted Crane, they assured me this is normal and nothing to worry about. I just wish it didn't do this.

Customer Review: Useful but not great
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought the Crane Penguin humidifier about 2 months ago. The filter arrived about a week later. My experience applies to people using HARD TAP WATER. So far I've found that, although the filter helped with keeping the humidifier a bit cleaner (I clean it once a week with diluted bleach for the tank and vinegar for the base), it only seemed to work to reduce white dust (from hard water minerals) for just over a month, using the humidifier at a low or medium setting. I'm considering using distilled water instead - it might work out cheaper than having to replace the filter every couple of months. I would definitely advise to keep the original cap for the tank and try the humidifier with and without filter.

Customer Review: Demineralization filter
Summary: 5 Stars

This does the trick for us. Without it, we have a thick, stubborn layer of white dust on EVERYTHING. We this, the white dust is minimal. There are absolutely no mineral deposits on the inside of the humidifier if we use a filter (without it, a thick layer builds up within a month). If you live in an area with high mineral content in your water, you are going to need one of these. Oh -- about the complaints of orange water -- there is a note that comes with the filter that states that it will cause orange water for the first few fillings and that this is normal. If you rinse the filter before use, this really isn't a big problem.

Customer Review: Does the job
Summary: 5 Stars

My humidifier is a penguin-shaped one. I had no problem whatsoever installing the filter. The only thing that you want to keep in mind is that you have to give it 15 minutes to pre-soak, so that the water from the tank starts to get through. I've been using it for about a month now, no white dust whatsoever.

The only concern of mine is whether you win anything with this filter pricewise: it costs around $8 and serves for about two months. So, you should see for yourself whether it is cheaper than buying filtered water to fill the humidifier up. Ultimately, it boils down to how intense you use your humidifier.

Customer Review: Works great!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I own the frog one for over 2 years. We have never used a filter in it and never had a white dust problem. If you don't want the extra minearls or you r water is hard...use distilled water...duh!! My city water must be great cause I have never had a problem. And as far as it being loud..of course it is going to make a little noise mine is only a hum so I don't know where people are getting it is too lound because it is not. I would highly recommend this, it is cute, has great level settings a very low to very high setting, you chhose just turn the dial up or down, it is quite, and if you have hard water use distilled.
