Customer Reviews of CytoSport Muscle Milk, Chocolate, 2.47 PoundCustomer Review: Why this product is awesome Summary: 5 Stars
Let me start of by saying that this is not some magic powder that once you take it you will look like Rambo without doing any work. If you really want to see the results that this product can provide then you're going to have to work hard; if you're not willing to do work then you may as well close this page because this product is not for you. To anyone out there that is left, this is an amazing product and completely worth every penny. I'm an 18 year old, I've been going to the gym since Oct 2010 for 3-5 days a week (depending on work schedule) for anywhere from 1 to 2 1/2 hours a visit.I was starting to get the results I was looking for but I wanted to take it to the next level without looking like a scary ridiculously jacked person that should be in a steroids ad. I found this product and decided to go for it. I have been using it for a week and no lie, after 2 days I was seeing results that I have been aiming for since October. There are some suggestions that I would make; the label says to use 2 scoops for 10-12 oz and I found that it was too potent and that the powder would not fully dissolve so I use about 1 3/4 scoops and its perfect. It also said you can take it multiple times a day (before, during and after workout, before bed) I just use before every workout and before bed (only on the days that I go to the gym.) Also, some people said that this product was making them gain weight, well I don't know how often they were using but there are 2 factors that they probably did not take into consideration... 1. muscle weighs more than fat and this product is meant to build/enhance muscle. 2. This is a protein shake, it can pack on pounds if you use it excessively, so just bump up the amount of cardio you do on a daily basis and you should not have that problem. If you're still skeptical, They sell this brand of single shakes at WAWA and probably other places; so get a few and try them to see if they work for you. If they do then you should buy the powder because it will save you a ton of money; The price of 10-12 single shakes is equal to the price of the largest tub of this powder. I have made about 10 shakes with the powder and have barely put a dent in the tub yet. Hope I helped. Good Luck!
Customer Review: MUSCLE MILK MESSED ME UP! IT IS DANGEROUS Summary: 1 Stars
I am VERY serious about this. Prior to taking muscle milk I had no diet problems and was in good shape. I decided i wanted to be CUT UP, so i started muscle milk 2x a day. I loved it and it tasted great and i was drinking it with soy and regular milk. After about 4 months my hands started itching. I mean serious itching!! Then it got worse and my body developed rashes. I developed rashes on my hands and feet and my body. I saw 2 doctors , dermatologist who stated had ECZEMA. I was given steroids and benadryl with very little relief. I was not sleeping at night due to the itching and i was not really sure what was causing it. My hands looked deformed ( i wish i had pictures ). I saw another doctor who stated i may have FOOD ALLERGIES! A battery of tests were done and it was discovered that i was allergic to CASEIN!!!! I had never been allergic to this before. This is the protein that is in milk/butter/cheese...and muscle milk is LOADED with CASEIN! My body had now, due to overexposure of casein, developed a immune response to CASEIN! My body saw this protein as foreign and everytime i ate milk butter cheese i would have a terrible rash. In addition to immune cells and receptors generalized not only in skin, reactions can vary from , "brain fog" , headaches, malaise, nausea, bloating, lethargy, eczema etc. CASEIN IS BAD STUFF..this is the reason protein diet are out of fad now , due to the large number of side effects that started developing from this foreign proteins. Prior to muscle milk i loved eating cheese and wine and butter and milk. Now I CAN NOT EAT ANY OF THIS! If anything is cooked in any butter i devolop terrible rashes. I can no longer eat out without being very cautious. Also my body is now hyper responsive to foods and foreign proteins and i have lost weight and have a hard time finding foods i CAN EAT. I used to love to eat, now I HATE AND FEAR EATING>!!! THANKS ALOT MUSCLE MILK!!. I have spoken to a few other people who have developed similar responses to their product. If anyone knows how i can warn the public about this , let me know. Thank you!
Customer Review: Doesn't mix well , bad aftertaste, poisonous for your organs Summary: 1 Stars
I purchased the chocolate flavor. Despite stirring in vigorously and shaking it also in a jar - 2 different methods of testing it for how well it mixes -- it was still clumpy despite the claims that it mixes well. I found the chocolate taste okay mixed with water, but it does have a lingering aftertaste which I find unpleasant.
Moreover, a recent Consumer Reports/ ABC News investigation testing ingredients of Protein Drinks found this: ...The worst of the products tested was Muscle Milk Chocolate powder, which contained all four toxic metals; three of them at the highest levels of all products tested. Three daily servings of this particular brand and flavor contained an average of:
* 5.6 µg cadmium
* 13.5 µg of lead
* 12.2 µg of arsenic
* 0.7 µg of mercury
Read it for yourself here:
[...]
The samples of Muscle Milk Chocolate powder we tested contained all four heavy metals, and levels of three metals in the product were among the highest of all in our tests. Average cadmium levels of 5.6 µg in three daily servings slightly exceeded the USP limit of 5 µg per day, and the average lead level of 13.5 µg also topped the USP limit of 10 µg per day. The average arsenic level of 12.2 µg was approaching the USP limit of 15 µg per day, and the average for mercury was 0.7 µg, well below the USP's 15 µg-per-day limit. Three daily servings of Muscle Milk Vanilla Crème contained 12.2 µg of lead, exceeding lead limits, and 11.2 µg of arsenic. A fourth product, Muscle Milk Nutritional Shake Chocolate (liquid), provided an average of 14.3 µg of arsenic per day from three servings, approaching the proposed USP limit.
Cadmium raises special concern because it accumulates in and can damage the kidneys, the same organs that can be damaged by excessive protein consumption. And it can take 20 years for the body to eliminate even half the cadmium absorbed today.
Needless to say I'm stopping taking this.
Customer Review: Tasty, but ONLY if you get the RIGHT FLAVORS! Summary: 5 Stars
I've burned through many containers of Muscle Milk powder (only the original, not the Collegiate formula nor the Light formula). I like the results I got from it, but the only things you really need to know are:
1. WHICH FLAVORS TASTE GOOD?
2. WHERE SHOULD I BUY IT?
Here are the flavors I've tried, and how they rate:
Chocolate Milk - Great, my favorite. Do not confuse with "Chocolate" or "Chocolate Malt" (see below).
Chocolate Malt - It's ok. Not as good as I'd hoped, but drinkable.
Chocolate - Not great. Surprisingly, the fake chocolate flavor is just too strong. If you mix it with another flavor it becomes tolerable.
Cookies and Cream - Great, popular flavor, an easy first-time choice
Mocha Joe - Good if you like coffee (which I do), otherwise I expect you'd find it horrid
Strawberries and Cream - Very good, one of my favorites, but I wouldn't want it every day because you're gonna get the strawberry burps
Natural Fresh Strawberry - DO NOT BUY! I can only describe this flavor as like drinking strawberry mixed with fart. Yes, you read that right. Fart. I choked down a container of this only by mixing it in low amounts with other flavors. Since then I've avoided all the "Natural" products out of sheer terror (and disgust).
Where should you buy it:
I recommend The Vitamin Shoppe, 2.47 (or 2.48) lb container, via Amazon of course. The price, combined with shipping, was always lowest or among the lowest whenever I purchased.
Customer Review: Muscle Milk Review for the average person Summary: 4 Stars
(I lift maybe 3-5 days a week for about 1 hour per session, and I try to squeeze in cardio as much as possible)
I've been using this product all summer and from what I noticed I've went from a BMI of 26.1 to 23.2 in about 3 months. (alongside a healthy diet, plenty of sleep, and avoiding alcohol as much as possible) I have noticed some muscle growth and a toned body, but in all honesty, I think you can achieve the same with consuming any food high in protein and low in salt/fat/sugar after a workout.
A glass of fat-free chocolate milk would probably give you the same results...
Pros:
+ Packs a good amount of protein for a post-workout drink
+ *Seems* to promote lean muscle (I did not try a non-muscle milk regiment), I say seems because when I cut myself from Muscle Milk for about a week and had other protein such as tuna, greek yogurt, etc for a post-workout meal I looked the same if I were using Muscle Milk
Cons:
- Vanilla tastes AWFUL, strawberry is Tolerable (those are the only 2 flavors I tried)
- You'll still feel sore the next day, even with proper stretching
- Doesn't mix well with cold milk
- Does not make a good meal replacement, even with added fiber
- The servings the product recommends seems way too much for the average person
Conclusion: very affordable on amazon.com (you will pay usually $10-$20 extra elsewhere), not great tasting, but a reliable source of protein.
