The creation of the this product was my original idea which I brought to Spectronics Corp. in 1999. Together their chairman, engineers and I brain-stormed the idea and in early 2000, introduced the original DeGERM-inator UV Sanitizer. It was a small, 4 watt battery operated device and it was the first germicidal UV product ever introduced to the consumer. In 2005, Spectroline created a new series of unique, portable 5 watt UV lamps (the MiniMAX Series) and included in their designs a new, improved version of the DeGERM-inator which I now proudly sell here on Amazon along with the entire Spectroline (R) MiniMAX Series of Portable UV Lamps. In the interest of full disclosure and genuineness, I offer readers of this review the following:
Here are the facts about the DeGERM-inator. First, The DeGERM-inator was the first and is still the best engineered and safest portable ultraviolet sanitizer on the market, as I previously stated. I say this not because I was involved in creating it, but because I have examined and tested all the imitations and knock-offs of my product, Some incorporate good ideas but are poorly engineered and of questionable quality. Others, the least expensive ones in particular, don't even offer real, germicidal UV; that is they filter the UV tubes output and thus, do not produce the wave length commonly known to be germicidal. Germicidal UV cannot be filtered and still be "germicidal". The sad part is, the average consumer has no way of knowing if these cheap copies work or not.
I began using my original version (DeGERM-inator model UV-4GS) in late 1999, as soon as testing was completed in the laboratories of Queens College, in New York. These tests results, which I am happy to offer any interested party a copy of, demonstrated what I believed would be the fact that a portable, germicidal UV light emmitting sanitizer would be an effective and very important tool in the field of commercial and personal hygiene. As for functionality, this new model , which I call the DeGERM-inator Model DG/2 is far superior to the original.
This new lamp produces significantly more UV irradiance and intensity than even the larger uv wands being sold so it is faster to use and delivers a lethal "dose" in less time. This is because of the patented uv reflector designed into the lamp which effectively triples the intensity and irradiance of the 5 watt output. The testing I refered to demonstrated it effective at destroying most commonly encountered microorganisms such as e-coli, samonella and staph, including antibiotic resistant strains. No other portable uv sanitizers, to my knowledge, have conducted such tests.
I am the authorized Spectroline representative for their entire line of UV sanitizer and sanitary inspection lamps. However, long before I conceived of these products, I was, and still am, a professional in the sanitation industry and, most importantly one of the leading experts on UV sanitation technologies and applications in the US. My background in the cleaning industry spans nearly 30 years. As such, I also consult with institutions such as schools, hospitals, professional sports teams, law enforcement professionals and others on infection control and uv sanitation technology in particular. I am confident that buying from someone who understands this technology and who knows what he is talking about is something the consumer will find to be not only unusual, but comforting.
Finally, how is this for an endorsement: The Special Olympics selected the DeGERM-inator to use last summer for germicidal protection of their athletes, physicians and staff members at the 2008 Olympic games, held in Bejing, China. We shipped them 25 units and the buyer told me that using them to sanitize surfaces and objects while overseas gave them a great deal of peace-of-mind...and no one in their party became ill at the games. I was thrilled to get that feedback. If the readers of this review find it questionable, I invite all to review my seller rating and customer reviews. They say it better than I ever could.
