Customer Reviews of Dental Hygiene Preferred Complete Day/Night Mouth Guard Kit, Colors may varyCustomer Review: Bruxism grinds Summary: 5 Stars
But so does coughing up $500 for a nightguard custom made for you by a dentist.
I will start off by affirming that these do not last as long as those made by dentists. But even if I was to replace this every other month, it'd still be cheaper than a dentists nightguard.
One of the drawbacks of OTC dental guards is that they can irritate the gums. I especially noticed this when my nightguard would start getting worn down in some spots(where the most pressure is applied). After a while, it doesn't fit quite the same and the constant uneven pressure can be bad for the gums.
What I like about Dental Hygiene Preferred Complete Day/Night Mouth Guard Kit, Colors may vary is that you are given 2 different sizes that fit your mouth different. I guess my mouth is average sized(I'm not a mouth expert so I couldn't really tell you). IMO, alternating them helps. The different sizes put the pressure in different spots since they fit different. Which, IMO, results in less potential for irritation on the gums.
With the economy the way it is, few can really afford the custom made nightguards. The quality of this product is excellent and the size options are nice to have. This is the only OTC nightguard that I will use.
Below are some helpful materials on Bruxism/TMJ. I have decided that I am not just going to protect my teeth at night, but also try to get rid of the problem altogether.

Customer Review: Not the best choice for snoring Summary: 4 Stars
This device is well made and a good value, but not the best solution for snoring.
I don't have bruxism (nighttime teeth grinding). I bought this as an antisnoring device because it came up when I searched Amazon for "snoring". (With that word all over this review it'll probably come up more now!).
Anyway, I gave this four stars because it was a good value, came with two models for the best fit, and the quality was good. It only took me a few hours to get used to having it in, slept through the first night without problems, and I had no sore jaw/teeth or drooling issues. It molded very easily, and I remolded it three times without a problem. The plastic is very smooth and I didn't have to trim any away for comfort, although they give good tips for that in the instructions if you need to.
I took away one star because it came up as a snoring aid. I don't know if that's the maker's fault or Amazon's, but it loses a star for it.
I believe it helped with my snoring a bit, but I can't recommend it for snoring because it is flat on the bottom. This is probably a good thing for those with bruxism, since I suppose the teeth need room to grind, but it doesn't hold my lower jaw forward reliably enough, which is what snorers need. While I haven't been kicked out of bed while wearing this, my wife is implying that it's not the perfect solution. I woke up one night on my back and my lower jaw had slipped into snore position. I don't know if I was snoring or not, but I know my jaw was in snore position, and that was concern enough.
I hope the manufacturer reads this and makes a model for snoring that has molds for both upper and lower teeth, because in all other respects it's a great product.
Customer Review: Wow! Very impressed with this night guard. Summary: 5 Stars
I lost my expensive dentist-made night guard a couple months ago. Thought I'd find it in a week or two, but didn't. I had used these previous ones for about 4 years. Oh well.
I can't afford the $500 my dentist wants to make a new one, and a couple of my teeth were starting to hurt, so I checked Amazon and decided to try these, based primarily on the very good overall average rating.
I am very very impressed. Other than being bulkier than the dentist one I had before, the material it is made of is actually more comfortable otherwise. I'm extremely impressed with this brand night guard!! AND, it saved me about $480, and works great! What more can you ask??
It is important to read the directions carefully, as you're only supposed to try fitting each included guard twice (and special way you have to do it). Not supposed to redunk it in the hot water to refit after two tries. Luckily, after the first try on the big one, it wasn't quite right, but by then I knew what I did wrong and corrected it.
Also, before fitting, make sure you have a fingernail file or two on hand as well as matches or a lighter to help perfect the finished feel in your mouth. This is actually recommended in the instructions (with the requisite urging to be careful not to hurt yourself with the lighter).
Anyway, excellent product, and I just want to recognize that and help other people find a great solution to a potentially VERY expensive problem.
Customer Review: Easy for first time user Summary: 4 Stars
The instructions were reasonably clear. I was able to guess which piece would fit better. I picked the one that didn't seem like it would fit as my practice piece. The boiling went along just fine but it was harder to bite into than I anticipated. So I reboiled and tried again. I got a better "bite" on the second try but the material seemed pretty disturbed. Clearly, one good clean bite on the first try would work much better.
So, with this in mind I was able to switch to my actual piece and get the bite more or less right. The fit ended up OK.
Although, it is the smaller mouthguard that I use, I am surprised that it doesn't really make a big difference. The comfort level between the two is somewhat similar. Perhaps it's because they are both large physical presences in your mouth and you either get used to this or you don't.
It took a while to get used to having the mouthguard in place. Then I found, I was clenching my jaws even harder simply because the guard was in place and biting was more comfortable. So I ended up grinding even more frequently and much harder.
In the end, my dentist's advice about just remembering to keep my teeth separated all day (and night) worked. I have a pillow protector and change my pillowcases frequently instead.
You gotta go with whatever disturbs you less.
Customer Review: Horrifying and probably dangerous Summary: 1 Stars
I followed the instructions and moulded one of the two guards in the package to my mouth, but it was absolutely gigantic and hurt my lips. Directions said to wear it for awhile to get used to it. Though I could barely sleep, I kept trying. After a few weeks, my lips became so irritated that they were raw and scraped. Then the product began oozing a gross liquid at night from the molded plastic! After 2 nights of this, I felt like I was being poisoned, so I stopped using it, of course, and decided to return it to Amazon, only to learn that my "100% guarantee" was only for 1 month and that the "company" that makes this is an individual who has no responsibility whatsoever and leaves it to Amazon to make partial refunds- maybe.
This is your mouth and your body, so don't take any chances. Get a mouthpiece from a professional who has some legal and ethical responsibility to make sure it's right - and safe. Don't buy this piece of junk!
