Customer Reviews of Dental Hygiene Preferred Complete Day/Night Mouth Guard Kit, Colors may varyCustomer Review: Hockey Puck Summary: 1 Stars
My dentist suggested I buy a mouth guard
from him. I didn't want to pay $300, so I
tried the Day/Night Mouth Guard Kit. I
was able to mold it to my bite and it stayed
in place. There is no way to regulate
the size of the gap between your upper and
lower teeth. I couldn't get any sleep because
it felt like I had a hockey puck in my mouth.
I re-heated the guard and tried again and had
the same result. I tried one other guard
and didn't like it either. I finally bought the
guard from the dentist, and it is great. The
dentist took molds of my teeth, determined the
spacing between upper and lower teeth, and grinded
down the guard to make sure that all my lower teeth
hit it at the same time when I bit down. It's
no big deal to wear it. I get great sleep, and
I don't even notice it until morning.
Customer Review: Protected Teeth Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this for my husband when he started to grind his teeth like crazy in his sleep. Compared to other similar products, this one is the best. I love that it comes with two to ensure the best/most comfortable fit. I'll also note that it was very easy to fit to his mouth.
Another nice feature is that the red case stands out on the nightstand, which is a good reminder before bed that it needs to be put in. It does take awhile to get used to wearing the guard if you haven't worn one before, but that is probably the case with all night guards. There is still some tooth/jaw soreness in the morning, but it's great knowing that his teeth are still protected. There are no more horrid grinding sounds coming from his mouth anymore. The only reason for four stars instead of five is the price. However, this was worth buying, even if it is a tad more expensive than other night guards out there.
Customer Review: Bad Fit Summary: 1 Stars
My dentist said I should get a night mouth guard as I probably clench my teeth while sleeping. I tried this mouth guard and it did not fit. It was huge even though I used the smaller size! I followed the directions (boil and bite) to get the right fit. However, the rubbery plastic that goes across the front teeth made my upper lip stick way out! And the whole thing kept falling out of my mouth. Then I tried the SleepRight Night Guard and that didn't work either, even when I adjusted it to different sizes. And that one made my lower lip stick way out. I showed both to my dentist and she saw how both were a very poor fit. She took an impression for a custom-made mouth guard and it came in 2 days. And as my insurance didn't cover this ($286) she only charged me $99. The custom-made mouth guard fits perfectly and I was able to sleep with it. It's best to have a custom mouth guard made!
Customer Review: Excellent Night Guard with one problem Summary: 4 Stars
This night guard fits very well and does a nice job of cushioning my teeth. However, I have worn a night guard for several years, so I am used to sleeping with one.
The one problem I have is that the edge on the inside curve of the night guard is slightly sharp, and my tongue has been sore from rubbing on it. The manufacturer recommends smoothing roughness with a fingernail emery board and using the flame of a lighter to further smooth the roughness. I have tried the emery board and reduced the sharpness somewhat. I am reluctant to try a flame because a mistake could easily ruin the night guard.
I would be interested in other comments if someone has found a better way to eliminate the sharpness.
The night guard would be much better if the manufacturer made sure all edges were well rounded at the factory.
Customer Review: OK but can't quite get it to stay in my mouth at night Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this because my dentist said I had to stop clenching and grinding my teeth at night or I'd chew them to pieces. There are two guards: one large with a blue gel bite area, one plain clear plastic and smaller. You're supposed to set them in warm water then bite on them to make tooth impressions. Then you use whichever is more comfortable and throw the other away. Well, I tried both. When they work, they work (though you have to be rigorous about cleaning them, or yuck). But often I wake up in the morning and the thing is just swimming around in the sheets somewhere. The small one is small enough to slip out of my mouth, it seems, and the large one is just too large. I wish there was one you could just set on the back teeth instead of the front, since I don't clench my incisors and the trouble is closing my mouth over the front.
