Customer Reviews of "Derby Extra" Stainless Steel Double Edge Razor Blades

Customer Review: Dissatisfied
Summary: 1 Stars

I can't tell if it is the sharpening pitch on these blades or if they are just poorly honed, but in my case they performed poorly. I can only describe them as feeling very rough and irritating. I have been a blade shaver for over 45 years, and from my recent experience I believe that it is getting almost impossible to find quality blades anymore. I've read several forums that advocate a perfection of shaving "technique", and steaming the beard for several minutes under a hot towel followed by the application of some exotic soap with a badger or sable brush followed by balms etc. etc. This isn't rocket science folks, and it needn't be as ritualistic as a japanese tea ceremony. It's just shaving for pete's sake, and if you've got a poor blade nothing will compensate for that.

Customer Review: A great blade for sensitive skin
Summary: 5 Stars

As others have mentioned this probably isn't the sharpest razor blade out there, but for me, someone who is prone to irritation and ingrown hairs, that's a good thing.

I've been using the Derby Extra for about five years now and absolutely love it. Where shaving was a pain before, it's now a joy. These give me a close enough shave that I only need to do so every other day, but not so close that my skin has issues.

I should mention that I swap out a new blade each time I shave to ensure cleanliness, but luckily with the price and sparse packaging I don't feel like I'm being overly wasteful to get the perfect shave.

So yeah, try them out, if you don't like them it's not like you're out a lot of cash...

Customer Review: 15 cents a blade
Summary: 5 Stars

wow what a differnece. i used to pay about 2.50 a cartridge for my fusion, but 15 cents for about the same closeness of shave? i thought it was too good to be true. it isnt the greatest of blades, but each blade lasts me about a week, and i have a thick beard. fusion blades lasted me about that long but after first shave it wasnt too great trying to unclog it. if de gets clogged just open it up and rinse it. im being completely honest this is the best shave you will get for the price. the merkur or schick blades are a little sharper, but also a little bit more expensive. these blades will give you the same shave a fusion or mach 3 gives for a fraction of the cost. thank you derby and amazon for giving us such a great deal.

Customer Review: Great dual-edge safety razor blades
Summary: 5 Stars

These work very well in my Parker 91R. I like them better than the 7AM branded blades the razor originally came with. The Derby Extras feel sharper and give a closer shave with less effort. They cut hair very easily and stay sharp for at least 5 or 6 shaves without noticeable pulling or dullness.

Since they are sharp, care must be taken if switching from a different brand. They aren't Feather(tm) blade style sharp but still... they are much sharper than the dual-edge blades my local pharmacy and grocery stores carry. The 7AM blades are nice too but I have to rate the Derby Extras higher for feeling sharper initially and staying sharper after a few shaves.

Customer Review: Swedish made
Summary: 5 Stars

Using a double edge safety razor like this is good for your wallet and the environment. For roughly $16 you get 100 blades, which if you were buying those plastice refill blades the same amount would cost you about $220 - 20 times more. They are manufactured from stainless steel with a Platinum and Chromium coating. These blades are made in Sweden and give a much closer shave than disposables. Barbers use this type of blade. Try these with a Parker razor and you will never go back to plastic again. I said they were god for the environment too, because not only do you have less waste without the plastic but you can take used blades to art stores as most recycle art blades.
