I've been suffering from acne since high school, and it seems that as I get older it gets worse (isn't that backwards???). After having tried Proactiv (which dried my face out so much that I wanted to pull my skin off) and Skin ID (didn't help at all, and still dried my face out), I decided to try a more natural product because I was sick of rubbing weird chemicals I couldn't pronounce all over my face. I found out that Burt's Bees had just started selling a new 3-step acne regimen, and I was so sure it would be wonderful. I was not impressed. After using it for months, it was just drying my face out more and more, not taking care of my acne, and causing my face to itch like crazy (maybe an allergic reaction?).
So I decided to go a simpler route and try to find a face wash that will take care of my problem without using 3 or 4 different products. I found this product at Whole Foods. It was one of the cheapest face washes that they had, and I had heard good things about Desert Essence, so I bought it. That was about a week and a half ago. So far, I haven't seen a whole lot of progress as far as acne goes, but I think I need to give it more time. It definitely hasn't gotten worse, and I think there is at least some improvement, so that's a good sign. I hated the smell of it at first, but I've gotten used to it, and frankly it can have the worst smell in the world if it works. The smell doesn't linger at all after you rinse it off, so that's great. (One thing I didn't like about Burt's Bees was that the bad small would follow me around for hours...) It's a little drying, but I've been using it twice a day, and it's nowhere near as bad as some other products I've used. As soon as I put a little moisturizer on I'm fine. This face wash leaves a really clean feeling, and it's nice to know that it's a natural and healthy product. The consistency is fine once you get used to how much you need to use, and it lathers a lot better than most other face washes I've used before. So far, I would definitely recommend this product for an everyday face wash. I will update this review once I have a better idea of how it will work for acne.

I've used Desert Essence's Thoroughly Clean Face Wash in the past with successful results, but for whatever reason, I often stray from its use to others (mostly out of a poorly placed sense of exploration). However, no other face wash has performed to the same degree that this product has. It does have a very pungent aroma, which thankfully doesn't last beyond the washing stage (it doesn't linger throughout the day like some fragrant soaps can).
As a face wash, it has a very liquidy consistency but lathers up very nicely. This seems a prime candidate for those with oily complexions, as the lather could cause dry skin to even further dry out. Where other soaps and washes will leave me feeling greasy by end of day, this one does not. It doesn't seem to strip my skin of moisture either, which makes the use of a moisturizer unnecessary (a bonus since they tend to cause me to break out).
I have also had a nasty bout of milia (tiny forehead bumps which leave my forehead and face looking uneven and not pleasant) which has been largely eliminated thanks to this. While it is hard to pinpoint the reason for the reduction in appearance of milia, I noticed this change very soon after using this face wash. It has only improved with continued use. I'm giving credit to this face wash since nothing else has changed.
All in all, one of the best buys for those with oily/combination/acne-prone skin. I no longer even have to use benzoyl peroxide to treat blemishes, since this face wash seems to combat acne before they surface (probably due to the tea tree oil). No more bleached towels and clothes!! An excellent side bonus.

O.M.G. I ordered this thing a week ago after reading all of the reviews and I just got it this morning. I was so excited I used it immediately, and right after the very first wash, my skin was silky smooth, smelled great, and it seems like my complexion and skin toned evened out, after just one use! However, before I ordered it, I saw some people mention that it needed foam pump bottles, so I was prepared and went and bought some. I have one by my sink, and one in my shower, and oh, it's just SO amazing. I've noticed some people on here complaining about the smell, and I honestly think those people need to get over themselves. The smell is NOT strong at all, and it's kind of a sweet, coconut, tea tree oil, dessert aloe smell. You can smell the heat of the dessert in this thing. It does burn the eyes and it's uncomfortable, but the only thing I can say is not to be an idiot and wash your eyes. I was just so excited and dripped some by accident. I just took a shower and used it and my body feels so clean and refreshed. I emptied out my shower of everything else except my shampoo, conditioner, dessert essence, and summers eve. That's all I need and it's the only thing I will ever use. It's a big bulky pack and it should last a very long time. Especially since it's so concentrated. I filled each of my foam pumps half way with DE, and the rest of it water and it still works like a charm and removed all traces of makeup, dirt and oil. And it's natural! I couldn't ask for more. I love this product! I've been using it for over seven years now. I have oily skin and, back in my twenties, horrible adult acne. I cured my acne within a couple of months of starting this product. Even now, if I skip a day or use something else, I'll get a breakout. The 32 oz refill size is the best buy. I fill a little squeeze bottle halfway and top off the bottle with water (50:50 dilution). To use, I sprinkle a little on a warm, wet washcloth and scrub gently. (I've found that scrubbing too hard or using the product more than once a day makes my face raw, although I'll occasionally use it twice in one day if my face is especially oily, sweaty, or dirty.) I've also successfully used it to treat my blepharitis (oily eyelid condition) and prevent the styes arising from blepharitis by very carefully rubbing the suds on my eyelids and along the margin of my eyelashes with my fingertips. NOTE: This product burns if it gets in the eyes! It also tends to dry the skin around the eyes -- I dilute very well, use it sparingly, and don't use it more than once a day. DISCLAIMER: I mentioned some medical conditions in this review. I'm not a doctor. I'm just a consumer who is describing her experiences with this product. Why I chose this product
I chose this product because it's 100% natural, 100% vegan (contains no animal products) and is not tested on animals. All great selling points for me.
My Opinion
I love this product! If I didn't love it I would honestly say so, but I loved this so much that I bought the larger 32 fl oz rather than the 8fl oz as its MUCH cheaper. I use this daily with a gentle flannel and my breakouts are kept to a minimum (no small feat considering how much I sweat! - I work in the fitness industry). Now it does smell a little of antiseptic, but it's a natural smell and not overpowering. Plus you only need a LITTLE each time as it goes a LONG way! The 32oz bottle I bought below has lasted around 8 months so far, and I have just under half the bottle left.
I really wish I'd known about this face wash in my teens (if it was around then? lol) as it really seems to suit my skin type leaving my face smooth and refreshed without drying it out. Plus I tend to be a little reactive to some skincare products but this was great! Also if you have acne prone teens I'd suggest trying this for sure!
Anyway just my opinion on this product
