Customer Reviews of Dr. Katz TheraBreath Oral Rinse, 16-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 2)

Customer Review: Removes Tonsil Stones
Summary: 5 Stars

The real strength of this product is that it is very effective at removing tonsil stones.

Certain people because of the shape of their tonsils, eating habits, etc. are more likely to get these "stones." They are basically white little bits of hardened mucous / food / bacteria that form in and around your tonsils. I am not sure if it is entirely understood as to what causes them.

They appear as white little dots on your tonsils. You can manually remove them with a toothbrush or cotton swab, but they also form in tiny little crypts in your tonsils as well and are difficult to remove without some form of mouthwash.

I only even noticed that I had them one day when I coughed one of these tiny white specks up. They smell *horrible* and are the likely the main cause of chronic bad breath if you have it. A lot of people have them, but are unaware of them because they are usually pretty small, and are often hidden behind the folds in the back of your mouth. I brush twice a day, and still occasionally get them.

After doing some internet research, the best advice I could find was to use an alcohol-free, saccharin-free mouthwash.

I've tried a few different alcohol-free, saccharin-free mouthwashes: Biotene, Kiss-my-face, and this one. I'd give 5 stars to all three of the mouthwashes, because each one is fairly effective.

Of the three, I have to say that the Therabreath mouthwash is probably the most effective at removing tonsil stones. Each time I used it, I noticed a few of the little 'stones' dislodging from my tonsils. You really do need to gargle it for about a minute though to achieve the maximum effect.

The Cons to Therabreath are that the packaging, and the actual rinse itself gives you the impression that you are gargling some odorless chemical solution as opposed to mouthwash. It is also kind of expensive.

If you have tonsil stones, I'd recommend first using Therabreath to dislodge all the stones, and then transitioning to another alcohol-free, saccharin free mouthwash that is cheaper and more pleasant to use, to prevent them from forming again.

Customer Review: Truly Amazing!
Summary: 5 Stars

This product really is amazing - it really works! I've never suffered horribly bad breath, but have had occasional bouts with it (typically when I'm super busy, don't eat right, and am drinking lots of coffee), and have the "typical" morning breath. Essentially my breath is probably "average". When I first purchased this I really had no idea what it was, it was on sale, and I was sick of the marginal mouthwashes at the drugstore. I don't really care for the typical drugstore mouthwash and the ingredient list in most of them is pretty horrible. I decided to try TheraBreath. The instructions on the back of the bottle are very elaborate, i.e. rinse twice, brush with their toothpaste, dip your floss in TheraBreath. I thought all that was way too much - it'd add another 5 minutes onto my morning routine! I simply decided to replace my typical mouthwash with TheraBreath - and that was it. The first time I tried it I liked it, it was just slightly minty and very neutral in flavor. By the third day I couldn't believe what a difference this mouthwash made! My mouth and breath felt fresh and clean all day long! Morning breath was significantly reduced too! I'd just been using it with my normal brushing routine, once in the morning and once in the evening. At this point I wanted to learn more about the product and what was in it. I spent some time reading TheraBreath's website and reviews on the Internet. I've been a diehard fan ever since.

People with "average" breath probably don't require the elaborate routine recommended on the bottle. I don't. The product IS expensive, but it's worth it. I keep my eye out for sales and stock up (review the expiration date so you'll know how long you can keep it around - most of my bottles have a expiration date a year or two out). TheraBreath also has sales twice a year where you can stock up at a price per bottle that is less than half of retail. I highly recommend this product!

Customer Review: Baffled at the glowing reviews
Summary: 2 Stars

I am absolutely baffled at the glowing reviews for this stuff. What floors me even more is that some of them even go so far as to claim that there are no side effects. Really guys? No side effects? I'm with the guy who rated this one star. I was feeling slightly more generous since it "works" so I bumped it up a star. Sure, it eliminates bad breath but so does any other zinc based mouth rinses out there. The problem is that for some reason, few people ever mentions the fact that zinc based mouth rinses also eliminates your ability to taste. How is that not a side effect people!? That's a pretty major side effect. If my food starts tasting more bland than baby food, i'd list that as a side effect and this little side effect lasts the entire day with just one use. The bottle actually says to use it 3 times a day.

Three times! Are you kidding me, dudes? How about I just chop off my tongue? That could probably eliminate bad breath too and apparently, for some people, that wouldn't make the list of side effects.

Maybe if your breath could be classified as a biological weapon, you can make the sacrifice to never taste food ever again. But for everyone else, find something else.

Customer Review: What a product!
Summary: 5 Stars

My son is 12 years old and he is special need child, since he was little he always had bad breath. Me and my wife tried everything, from scope listerine, and gum but that didn't help at all. We help him brush his teeth three times a day but also that didn't help.

One day I was watching the needs and therabreath founder Dr. katz was showing his problem in the news, so I said let give it a try. So I went to our local store (walmart) and find the product there, wow I have to tell you this product works, it has given my child better breath then I could of imagine, he breaths on me in the morning and tells me daddy, how does it smell I tell him wow son no one his better breath then you in the morning. But what im saying is sometimes he forget to brush his teeth in the morning on the weekend, and tells me daddy smell my breath and guess what it doesn't smell anymore.

So I would like to thank Dr katz for a wonderful product, by the way it was a little expensive in walmart. Amazon his it cheap.

I also bought the tooth paste and mouth rinse. it works really does.

Customer Review: Horrible metallic bitter aftertaste, destroys sense of taste for hours
Summary: 1 Stars

Perhaps if your breath is so chronically bad, it would be worth the semi-permanent metallic taste that destroys the flavor of food. If you are more like me, whose breath is fine except for "morning breath," I cannot imagine why you would want to have this distracting, unpleasant aftertaste that lasts for several hours, and which alters the flavor of everything you ingest.

Three hours after trying the mouth wash, I had a scotch and I could barely taste it, but I could still taste something bitter in metallic from the mouth wash. I had paella and it tasted like styrofoam, but that bitter metallic taste persisted. My rioja tasted like watered-down Kool-Aid, but of course that metallic bitterness wouldn't let go.

If you have no friends because your breath drives everyone away, I guess this would be worth dealing with: I mean, friends or enjoyable food, right?

Also, if you are trying to eat less to lose weight, this mouthwash might help, because it destroys all ability to enjoy food and drink.
