Customer Review: Nice & Fruity!
Summary: 4 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I have tried many so called "health" bars which are usually all centered around some kind of cereal, and then have vitamins, minerals etc. A lot taste like compressed wood shavings, or stale oatmeal covered in chocolate, but in fairness many are also very tasty. This bar (labelled as a protein bar) is light, fruity and naturally sweet tasting. Be aware if you are controlling calories that each bar is 180 calories (many other bars are considerably less) but it is also a good size snack, unlike many which seem to be gone in two bites. As for the health benefits, well if the packaging is to be believed this bar is certainly better than eating candy, and can help those who especially need a protein boost, if they are not getting it elsewhere in there diet. For me, I enjoyed it as a nice, fruity snack that was moist but not too chewy, refreshingly new in taste (no choc chips, brownie, or peanut butter for a change)and an easy snack between meals, or on the go. My kids love them too!

Customer Review: Better flavor than most, 14g of protein

I've been going through a case of Zone bars every two or three weeks for several years now and I've have never found any other nutrition bar to compare in flavor, low calories and nutrients. I'm not a fan of fruit bars, preferring peanut butter and chocolate.

Well, Dr. Melina lemon raspberry protein bar just changed my strong position on this. Though I was reluctant to stray from my first love, I took the leap and - hey - it's good. I'd even go so far to say it's very good. The fruit flavor is there, but it's not overpowering. It's amazingly sweet, it's filling and it loaded with 14 grams of protein with only 180 calories.

As a weight lifter and martial artist I will probably continue to eat a 280-calorie Zone bar to get an energy blast BEFORE a workout, but I will use a Dr. Melina to get some serious protein with few calories AFTER my workout.

I'm the co Author of The Fighter's Body and I highly recommend Dr. Melina.

Customer Review: Okay bar, decent taste. Nothing special, though.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
These bars have a satisfactory list of ingredients (which you can review on the product listing) and do not contain high fructose corn syrup, which is a plus. (Note that they do contain other forms of sugar, along with a fair amount of saturated fat.)

They're a little powdery, as all the protein bars of this type seem to be, but not too bad. They have a decent texture and aren't too chewy. They are sweeter than I expected, which might be a turn-off for some.

As for the flavor -- it's decent. They definitely taste of lemon; not so much like raspberry. I wouldn't say they taste good, but they don't taste bad either. You certainly wouldn't gobble these down because they're yummy, but if you're interested in their other benefits, the taste is acceptable.

The package indicates that the bars are processed in a facility that also processes, among other things, nuts. So if you're allergic, you might think twice about these.

Customer Review: Refreshing taste!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Dr. Melina's bar has protein, carb and calorie ratios comparable to other similar products plus an unusual taste for a protein bar. It has a fairly typical crispy layer of what is probably soy, and a bottom coat of yellow lemony icing. It has little pieces of dried raspberry in it which probably contributes to the taste. If you eat a lot of protein bars like I do, a new taste is refreshing. The taste reminds me of Starburst fruit chews.

Unfortunately after chewing for a few seconds there is grittiness to the texture and oil coats the tongue. I tasted the crispy layer separately and it had a vitamin aftertaste. The lemon icing is really good--creamy and lemony. I think this would work better if this was a chocolate bar, because the textures don't go with the light flavor. Nevertheless it is obviously a quality product with healthy ingredients. So for me it is not a staple but for when I want a change.

Customer Review: minor league sports nutrition
Summary: 4 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
These are tasty, somewhat nutritious sports nutrition bars. They're like eating rice crispy treats with a not-too-sweet, lemony frosting on them; and being marketed as a protein bar containing 15 grams of protein (about half the amount your body can ingest in a single meal), they're useful for someone wanting to precisely regulate their diet for fitness purposes, but are not in the class of the fully-leaded nutrition supplements. These bars are like Gatorade next to more potent, less flavor-oriented workout recovery drinks, Slim-Fast shakes next to better-engineered meal replacements like those made by Met-RX. Depending on your level of engagement in the gym lifestyle, that makes these bars either a bit better or not quite as good as "hardcore" sports nutrition products. Either way, though, these Dr. Melina bars are definitely good to eat, with none of the chalk taste and texture that products like this so often have.
