These work great! I would say they block out about 95% of the light. There is just a little light coming from the base of my nose that I can see. Also I can detect no chemical smell or other oder on these, which is very important if your trying to relax and sleep.
Sadly, when I wake up I usually find them thrown on the floor somewhere. But I can see how they would be great for sleeping in the car or on a plane. The straps will fit an adult male comfortably which is one problem I have had before with other products. Also the design is very well made in that you don't feel anything on your face hardly at all and you can open and close your eyes without your eyelids or lashes coming in contact with anything.
I have tried 2 other traditional sleep masks that didn't work for me, either becuase they are itchy, too small, or because they get too hot due to the fact that they are pressing against my face. This product has none of those faults and are very easy to wear and adjust. I have not tried the included ear plugs but they seem to be of the standard variety. I would buy this sleep mask again and I would recommend it.

I'm not a regular user of sleeping masks, but when I'm traveling or when my work schedule requires me to get my sleep in during daylight hours, this thing is a life saver.
The mask is made from a soft, foam like material that has a sort of silky (though it's not actually silk, I don't want to mislead) material sealed to the foam. It has an adjustable strap that connects with VelcroŽ so it's quick and easy to adjust and it provides near black-out conditions. If I really try, I can sometimes see a sliver of light coming in from the end of my nose, but I can't even detect it unless I really try. The best feature of this mask, however, is the eyes of the mask are actually convex on the outside of the mask leaving a concave pocket on the inside of the mask. This is something I've only seen in the Sweet Dreams mask. This keeps the mask from brushing against your eyelashes. That's one reason I never liked using sleeping masks before, I found that sensation of having something pressed against my eye uncomfortable. The makers of this mask have solved that problem.
I wouldn't recommend any other mask over this one.

Easily the best eye shades I've used, with a unique and superb design. Its eyes and nose contouring are its strong points. Many mask are thick and press against the eyes when sleeping, here the designers intelligently molded concave impressions outward from the eyes so there is no pressure on the eyes. This sculptured mask works considerably better than the standard loose cloth variety. The nose fitting is unlike the usual mask with a loose fold of cloth that doesn't fully shut out the light. Here the nose fit is sculptured to fit tightly on the sides of the nose. The mask is black and thick enough to completely block any light and its contoured fit keeps out extraneous light as well. Its size is adjustable, using velcro fasteners on the head strap.
The drawstring case helps keep dust off the mask, but the ear plugs do not appear to be anything special. They seem like those handed out on commercial flights, and it does not seem they would be long lasting with steady use.
In conclusion, this is a truly superb eye shade with fit and functionality that literally puts the old style masks to shame.
Customer Review: Hurts ears, doesn't block all the light, cheap material

After all the glowing comments (which I now am rather suspicious of) I was eager to get this and try it out. I work nights and am sensitive to light while sleeping so really needed these.
-My biggest complaint is the strap that holds it on. It is very hard and scratchy and seems to position too low to sit comfortably over the ears, so it rubs on my ears all night. When I wake up my ears hurt and I've noticed it has actually started to break the skin. Also, the strap is very short - it is Velcro and I have to on the very ends of each strap so that it barely holds. I read other comments on this and thought the people must have huge heads or something - but I have a very average sized head and the strap is indeed short.
-These let in an awful lot of light from the bottoms, around the nose area etc.
-The area for your eyes to open is very small, so if it moves at all you can't open your eyes without hitting the mask. And believe me, these will not stay in one spot for long.
So I'm off to find a better pair...

I was extremely happy with this sleep mask when I first received it; I found the fit to be very comfortable and it's light blocking abilities to be extremely effective, however, I'm sure this would vary based on the size & shape of any individual's head. After the first two months the edge of the mask, which appears to have been hermetically sealed (in a very cheap fashion), simply disappeared and the inside layers simply separated.
The ear plugs worked well & the pouch is nice, but but despite being better quality than the mask, neither add much value to the package.
I have come to the conclusion that this item is sold with a "travel pouch" because it is intended for the occasional use during travel and not for long term situations.
All in all, I would say this mask is a good choice for travelers who may occasionally lose the item and want an effective & inexpensive replacement, but not for people who need a consistently good sleep 365 nights per year unless they plan on frequent replacements.
