Customer Reviews of Dream Essentials Sweet Dreams Contoured Sleep Mask with Earplugs and Carry Pouch, BlackCustomer Review: It's alright, but there are a few problems Summary: 2 Stars
The biggest problem I have is with the strap. The strap is fairly wide and comes straight back from the vertical middle of the mask which is where the eyes are. Now think about the human head. What's in a straight line back from your eyes? Yes, the strap cuts right across the top of your ears. If I move the strap up the back of my head, it tends to pull the rest of the mask up with it, thus letting light in the bottom. Also the strap is made of stretchy material but it's a little "sharp" on the bottom edge so it can actually be painful on the top of my ears (I semi-solved this by wrapping the strap with Charmin Toilet paper on either side above the ears).
I also find that when I lay on my side as I tend to do, it pushes up the other way due to contact with the pillow and lets in a sliver of light around my eyes.
And to wrap it up, I typically wake up to find it pushed up onto my forehead. This is possibly just due to the way I sleep, but it kinda negates the benefits of wearing the mask.
Customer Review: Made for Charlie Brown Summary: 3 Stars
These are very comfortable. They do not create any pressure on my face. There is a little bump-out over the eye area so they don't touch my eye lids at all. However, husband and I agree that these are designed for people with big heads. There is a slight gap at the bottom that admits a bit of light. I don't mind that as much because it avoids any claustrophobic black-out sensation. What is bothersome is that the adjustable headband has a single piece of velcro. If that size doesn't fit you, then you will lose your eye shade in the night. Our main reason for using the eye shade is that our bedroom faces easterly so we actually want the shades in the morning. If the manufacturer added a second piece of velcro, it would make the strap truly adjustable for all head sizes. If you have a Charlie Brown head and only need to block a little light, these may be the eye shades for you. If you have a light-drenched room, want black-out shades, or have a normal head, move on to a different product.
Customer Review: works well even if you have a big nose Summary: 4 Stars
The only other eye shades I had used were the ones you get on airplanes, which worked well enough, but 1) my big nose always raised the nose piece up and created a gap through which a little light would get through, and 2) when I blinked (and possibly when I went into REM), I could feel my long eyelashes rubbing against the fabric (I'm just guessing about the REM part, but it seems to make sense). And with the last one I had, the elastic eventually lost its elasticity and was unusable.
The Sweet Dreams mask does pretty well solving these problems. The nose piece does a much better job (though not perfect) with my big-nose problem, and because the mask is countoured over the eyes, I can't feel the fabric when I blink. The elastic is nice and thick, so it doesn't move around much. I haven't washed it yet, so I can't vouch for how it will hold up over time.
Overall, the Sweet Dreams mask is certainly worth trying. I think I'll get another one to carry on airplanes...
Customer Review: Needed: Good Guys to Fight Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the eye mask shortly after entering the dojo of my Shogun Master, Henri Ducard. He only provided used handkerchiefs as blindfolds, and I was a bit of a germaphobe. Hell, that's one of the biggest reasons I chose to study on a mountaintop. My eye mask arrived from amazon 2 days later. The mailmen they send are surprisingly athletic. I asked him to stay and train with me a while, but he needed to deliver an urn to some daughter in Colorado.
The eye mask works perfectly. I've gotten hit from all sides and not seen a thing. It gives just a curve of padding around the eyes to prevent itching, so I can focus all my energy on my bruises and fractured bones. The Velcro strap in the back allows me to store a knife behind my head in case of emergency (self defense only, of course). I notice immediate improvement in my performance. By day 3, I can hardly feel anything coming at me. And it's all thanks to my dream essentials sweet dreams contoured sleep mask!
Customer Review: Nasty Velcro Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this item out of sheer desperation at an airport because I forgot my sleep mast at home, and it turned out to be a huge mistake as a purchase.
My biggest gripe is with the velcro attachment in the back - I have curly hair and a larger than normal head, so I would constantly have to adjust the strap, and in doing so, the two velcro strips would not be flush with each-other - leaving a little bit of overlap which would make the exposed (female/male) pieces stick to my hair! Let me tell you, I spent more time picking out individual strands out of the velcro strips than sleeping, not to mention what it did to my stress level! Also, the mask was not dark enough for me - I could see light seeping in from the nose bridge cover. But the velcro strip is what put me off completely. Should have stuck with the 3$ pharmacy eye shades with the small plain elastic. Sometimes more elaborate does not necessarily mean more bang for the buck.
