Customer Review: Can't put lid down with original setup: Take seat off and buy/use metal/rubber washers for increased stability.

Positives:
-Well, it is tall- it does 'rise up to meet you'.
-It is seemingly comfortable enough.
-It is nice that the bars are so vertical (rather than gull winged) so that it can fit into narrower areas.
(However, that narrowness (inherent in the vertical orientation) might mean that the more 'ample' might be challenged in fitting between the handles.)
Concerns:
While I understand that the original seat is likely there to provide additional stabilization, I found that, frankly, it's bulky, uncomfortable, and unsanitary to have the underside of the 'second seat' carving into your spine/back if you're sitting there/leaning back. The original seat serves no useful purpose other than to provide some stability to the seat; however, it's not that much stability, & serves precious little purpose other than that (along with the aforementioned negatives).
Moreover, you cannot put down the original lid to prevent toilet aerosol from escaping the bowl on flushing. There is no ability to put the lid down when you flush with this setup.
That means toilet aerosol gets to spray all over your bathroom on flushing without the option of 'putting a lid on it'.
Yes, it does form a tall 'tunnel' which likely contains most aerosol, but.....aerosols will be escaping & depositing on your nearby toothbrush, hairbrush, etc.--ugh.
Was not impressed with the 'fork under the screws' stabilizer (lock bar) which was supposed to keep it secured on the toilet (while having both lids in the permanent 'upright and locked position').
That's a fair amount of torque on those two (usually nylon) bolts and nuts & I think it's overly optimistic to assume that those nuts/bolts are going to successfully withstand the torque if excessive pressure/twisting is put on those handles.
As such- I modified the setup:
1) Get rid of original lid, retain screws & nuts.
2) Go to hardware store and get 4-6 large rubber washers and 2-4 metal washers (I believe that 3/8"-1/2" opening would work- bring the toilet seat bolts along to check).
(Note on metal washers- you may not use 2 of those washers, depending on the available clearance on the underside of the ceramic toilet bowl, but you will use two on the upper side of the bowl).
Stack the bolt in the following manner (starting with item closest to bolt head): metal washer, rubber washer.
Put both stacked bolts on toilet (with seat fork sandwiched between rubber washer and ceramic bowl platform).
Put rubber washer on bolt beneath seat (underside). (You may have to cut the washer to fit the curves, etc.).
(Optional: Use the metal washer (if it fits with the curves- may not be able to use it)).
Thread the lower nut onto the bolt- tighten until secure.
You might want to sandwich the toilet seat fork between two rubber washers (so that the plastic of the seat fork is not directly pressed on the toilet ceramic, but I've found it's not needed (you would need 6 rubber washers if you do it this way).
This seems to be VERY secure, and does not have the added bulk of the (essentially useless) original toilet seat cluttering up the setup (and providing breeding grounds for ick germination).
