Customer Reviews of Dudu Osun Black Soap, 6-Count

Customer Review: I really wanted to love this soap but my skin was not having it
Summary: 1 Stars

I didn't purchase this soap via a vendor but my mom purchased this soap while she was overseas, since I asked for a generic African black soap. When she came back with this soap, she said that so many people said this was better for skin ailments such as acne and I took her word for it. When I first applied the later on my wet face, my skin started to itch and prickle, but I dismissed it as its healing properties taking into effect. After three days of using this soap, my face was blistering so I stopped. It took a week or two for my face to return to normal. I then decided to use the rest of the soap on my body since my body tends to be more resilient. How wrong I was. I tried this soap as a body wash for a week before I couldn't tolerate the itchy rash I developed while using it.

This is not a bad soap but I suspect my skin cannot tolerate either the camwood fragrance, honey (yes honey makes my face itch and blister when applied on my face) or the cocoa pod ash. If you have a less reactive soap, I suggest you purchase some. If that is not the case, just purchase one and test drive it.

Customer Review: The ONLY Soap I Use
Summary: 5 Stars

Dudu Osun has been my best-kept secret for many years now. People always compliment me on how beautiful, smooth, and even my skin is. I say "thank you", but almost never tell them what I use- Dudu Osun to clean and pure shea butter as a moisturizer! This is truly the best soap on the market and too many people let the color turn them away. It is REAL black soap, and it does not stain as some would have you believe. I also love the earthy scent and love to just sniff the boxes when they arrive in the mail! Too many of my African sisters come to the States with beautiful, smooth skin then start using Western products because they believe these products are somehow "better". Then, they are confused when they start having breakouts and acne. They attribute it to the different food- which may play a role-but I believe it is because they stop using native products like Dudu Osun. This soap lathers richly and rinses clean- squeaky clean. The lather is so rich, I also use it as a shampoo for my dreadlocks. My skin is flawless, my hair is clean and healthy. You couldn't pay me to try anything else.

Customer Review: Best Soap We Have Ever Used
Summary: 5 Stars

My husband and I are Caucasian, and we both have occasional facial break outs. My skin is very sensitive and reacts immediately to most facial products. Three years ago while on vacation and browsing in a store in that carried African products, we discovered Dudu-Osun Black soap. From the moment that we started using this soap, we have been thrilled with the results. This is the only soap that we use on our faces and our bodies. I am constantly receiving compliments on my skin.

I have always ordered online and I learned one very important lesson after my first order.... ask the vendor for the expiration date printed on the boxes. This is a natural product and my first order, which was non-refundable, was almost outdated when I received it. Now, that is the first thing that I ask the vendor.

I have never ordered from this vendor, so my recommendation is only for the soap itself. However, I did email them 4 days ago requesting information and I haven't heard back from them, so I today I ordered through another vendor, at a much much cheaper price.

Customer Review: Used for a month now, smells good and feel clean but...
Summary: 3 Stars

I started using this soap a month ago, once in the morning and before bedtime. I read every review and was so excited to use it. I am Asian, with eczema and acne here and there and I thought this soap would help. Well, it does make my face feel clean, but I really don't see any change in my eczema or acne. In fact, after the first few days of using this soap, I developed a harsh reaction that caused my skin to 'bleed' clear liquid out. I think this is partially my fault because I might have over exfoliated. These bleeding patches heeled after a week but left dark splotches behind. I am hoping this soap would lighten them up and the other scars on my face but I haven't yet seen any changes and it's been nearly 3 weeks. I'm giving this soap 3 stars because I'm gonna be optimistic and hope it still works but just takes a little longer for me. Like I said it does clean and does lather well and smells good but it can be harsh and can scratch you (there's some rough particles in this soap that can scratch you). Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for some great changes soon!

Customer Review: Great soap!
Summary: 5 Stars

As an avid soap maker, I think this soap is excellent. It does have a prominent herbal, vaguely medicinal smell which I enjoy, but after rinsing the soap off, the lingering scent on my skin is subtle. In other venues I've seen people claim that Dudu-Osun soap has artificial colors and fragrances. Here's what it says on the box:

Dudu-Osun is the age-long African black soap made the traditional way by hand from PURE NATURAL INGREDIENTS AND HERBS from the tropical rainforest and savannah regions.
-No artificial colours
-No preservatives
-Bio degradable

INGREDIENTS:
-Pure Honey
-Shea Butter
-Osun (Camwood)
-Palmkernal oil
-Cocoa pod ash
-Palm bunch ash
-Glycerine
-Aloe vera
-Lime juice
-Water & Fragrance.

Also, despite the ash content (that gives it its dark color), it didn't stain my bathtub nor washcloths. However, the wet bar of soap dripped brown liquid in my soap dish, which wiped off effortlessly.
