Customer Review: Why isn't this given by doctors
Summary: 5 Stars

Like another reviewer said "its the best $6. I ever spent. I'm still peeved at the decade of suffering and money wasted and strong drugs taken when all I needed was this syringe along with the acetic acid. At first I used every day, then twice a week, now once a week. There is no excess ear wax involved in my ear inflammation. My ENT gave me an acetic acid recipe to make myself instead of the expensive at drug store. 1/2 gallon of sterile water which is "distilled" water that is sold by the gallon at the grocery store for about a dollar. Mix with 3 oz. of food grade white vinegar, no other kind of vinegar. If I had not found this syringe the acetic acid cure would never have worked. The other kind of bulb syringe clogged my ears up with too much forced water. I asked my GP about why ear syringes were not offered and she said they used to give them out when they were given to their office for free by their drug reps. Guess the drug companies sell more drugs w/o the syringe cure, huh. Anyway the doctor could offer them at even a profit to their office. I take it a step further and heat the acetic acid just before using (on a little coffee cup heater). I test it on my wrist to avoid burns. But the instant releif is wonderful. Also, the 3rd important step is to dry the ears after shower and this treatment with hair dryer if the problem still does not resolve.

Always scared of injuring my child's ear drum with a cotton tip so used this tool instead. Works well but for heavy wax producer, you should apply it at least five times per ear and prep each ear beforehand by putting a liquid ear wax softener. People use homemade remedies such as hydrogen peroxide, olive oil (sometimes called sweet oil), baby oil, or mineral oil. Hydrogen peroxide is painful for me because it bubbles so I don't use it.

Apply a few drops of lukewarm wax softener into each ear by eye dropper (I use a baby syringe used to give medicinal doses to babies) and stuff a cotton ball in the ear to hold the liquid in. Wait fifteen minutes to take effect, meanwhile set aside two cups of lukewarm water and fill up the ear syringe and affix the tip. After fifteen minutes have passed, follow the syringe instructions to squirt the water. By the fifth squirt of water, you should see some brown wax pieces fall out of the ear. Repeat the process to the other ear. Drain any remaining water from your ear by your favorite safe method of shaking your head or whatever and put in a couple of rubbing alcohol drops to disinfect and dry the ear or use hydrogen peroxide or use a hair dryer. Total removal of ear wax is not necessary since a little ear wax actually helps maintain a pH balance that inhibits growth of certain bacteria and fungi.

Wow is all I have to say. I'm pretty obsessed with ear wax. I know its supposed to come out naturally, but sometimes it needs a little help. I'm especially obsessed with ear wax in my kids. I even got a cheapo scope to look in their ears. I was tempted to get one of those scoops to scoop out ear wax, but I'm also freaked out about puncturing their ear drum. So I used the plastic bulb. Never got anything out with that. Then I see this contraption. It looks cheap, and like it would work just as well as the plastic bulb, but it is actually quite awesome! I've taken so much gunk out of my kids ears and mine with this contraption. I feel so clean an relieved.

My son was complaining of water getting stuck in his ears after swimming and I glanced in his ears and noticed a ton of white stuff about to come out. I flushed it a couple times with this ear wax remover and a lot of flakey white stuff came out. But as I kept looking in there with my scope I kept seeing more. So I kept flushing. Finally after using almost the entire 24 oz cup of warm water, two fairly large piece of brownish wax came out. Ewwwww. It looked like tiny birds nests. I showed my son and he was like get that out of my face!

Mind you it took like over 30 times flushing to get the deep down in there wax, but totally worth it to me.

As several studies have shown, you get best results with 10 -15 minutes of ear wax removal drops then the syringe. My preferred drops are Murine Ear Drops .5 fl oz (15 ml) brand. I find chewing gum while using the drops helps coat the wax thoroughly. Every time you use the syringe, the three holes line up differently, cleaning different parts of the canal. When I have a painful impaction, it usually takes 2- 4 cups of warm water before the syringe removes the last of the blockage.

I have been using this syringe for a few years now. As far as I can tell, the three streams of water are acute to the side of the ear canal, bounce off causing turbulence, then mix with each other causing further turbulence. Using a similar principal, the new generation of heatless bathroom hand dryers use high velocity and turbulence to dry with less energy. This uses the principal to clean more with the same syringe pressure.

Customer Review: Great Product!

Every year it seems when winter hits I have problems with build up in my ears. The last couple years I have spent a lot of money going to the doctor and having them flush my ears. This product works exactly as intended, by the way people it says right on the box to use with ear drops. I used murine ear drops for 5 minutes in each ear then used this and it got every bit of the way out in about 2 syringe fulls for each ear. I was amazed at the amount of wax that came out and I can hear again finally. In all honestly I feel this syringe is safer than the one my doctor used, I actually passed out last time he did it with his syringe which is a direct stream type, and my ear hurt like heck for several days after. And for the people that said they couldn't use this by themselves that simply isn't true I had no problem using it on myself. So do yourself a favor and spend the couple of dollars and save yourself tons versus a doctor visit that does the same as this product.
