Customer Reviews of EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale w/ Extra Large Backlit 3.5" Display and "Step-On" TechnologyCustomer Review: Disappointed AT FIRST...but now, very pleased! Summary: 5 Stars
UPDATE: After posting this review, I was contacted by the company right away and was given the chance to receive a new scale. I was pleasantly surprised and grateful at their commitment to their product and their customers. In my last review, I was disappointed because of the inconsistent readings I was getting in a short period of time. I just received the new scale today and after numerous weighings, I'm very pleased with the results. But, beyond the scale being everything that it is supposed to be, a really great scale, what's more surprising is the sincerity of this company. Their concern for each customer's satisfaction is really surprising in a really good way. I've never experienced this kind of great service from anywhere else. Bottom line, the scale is great and you can really count on this company to pull through for you!
I was really looking forward to this scale, especially due to all the 5 stars it got. However, I have not been getting consistent readings. I would check my weight once and then again right after and it would come up with different readings every time. But, what recently has made me frustrated about this product is that the battery cover at the bottom of scale is not secure anymore. I've had this product for only a couple weeks and it has just been sitting in my basement and it hasn't moved. When I checked my weight one morning though, the scale was not working and that's when I lifted the scale and noticed the cover laying on the floor with one of the batteries out as well. I can understand this happening if I had the scale for a long time, but this is still brand new. I tried to put the cover back but every time I laid the scale back down, the cover would just pop out again. I had high hopes for this product, maybe I was just unlucky.
Customer Review: Meh, its OK.. Summary: 4 Stars
I recently bought this scale as a replacement after my Ozeri scale broke (as did many others-what a lemon!). It is a reliable scale, attractive and for the most part accurate.
I took off one star. It is hard to explain why, but here is my best attempt.
It seems that this scale uses something that I have come to name "Close-enough technology". Meaning, when you get on the scale the first time, it will measure your weight. You can see it calculating as the numbers will change. However, the next time you get on the scale, if it doesn't sense a significant change (and I don't know what the cut off number is to qualify as a significant change) it will immediately flash the last recorded weight (no calculating this time). Hence, it gives you a weight that is "close enough" to your actual weight but not entirely accurate.
For the most part, this number truly is very close to your actual weight, within 0.5 lbs difference. However, for Type A people like myself who are trying to lose weight, this will easily become an annoyance. My only remedy thus far is to first stand on the scale holding something heavy (right now I'm using my big bottle of mouthwash), then get off the scale, put the object down and have it recalculate my actual weight (see, I've created a significant weight change, forcing the machine to bypass it's "close-enough technology" system).
I hope this helps someone in their decision making. If I had to do it again, I probably wouldn't buy this scale. I would look for a scale that prioritized accuracy over response time as the calculating only takes a few seconds.
As far as the company EATSMART, so far, I have no complaints. They were timely in their delivery. What more can I say?
Customer Review: Don't bother Summary: 1 Stars
FINAL UPDATE Don't bother with this, I wish I never had. Total loss of money. The replacement scale was as unreliable as the first, and though I have informed William of this, he continues to contact me over and over, asking me to update my review. Though I've informed him that I was not happier with the replacement scale and have had to purchase a completely different scale and consider this a loss of money, and though he's assured me that I will not receive any further unwanted communications from him, I got another email from him this morning asking (again!) if I'm 100% happy with the replacement scale and again asking me to update my review. So, I'm updating my review to make it absolutely clear that I was not pleased with this purchase and will never again purchase from this seller.
NEW UPDATE the company is sending me a replacement, so I will give it another try and am looking forward to it. I'll post a new review after I've used it for a while.
UPDATE after a little less than 3 months of using, this scale seems to no longer give consistent readings. I've tried recalibrating it and it still gives "off" readings and the readings are inconsistent now. I would have hoped I would have gotten more than 3 months of use from this before I have to go searching for another one.
MY INITIAL REVIEW
After trying several scales and finding ones that gave inconsistent readings, I discovered this scale. Love the step-on technology - I don't have time to tap any scale and wait - and this gives consistent readings time and again. It looks attractive to leave out and I'm glad I found this scale so I can get to work on losing weight and forget about whether the readings I'm getting are right or not!
Customer Review: Ridiculous! Summary: 5 Stars
Yes, it's absolutely ridiculous that I would take even a few minutes to write the 2336th review of such a popular item. But I'm impressed.
This is our household's third digital bathroom scale in succession.
> I love the "instant read" feature. Makes weighing-in FAAST!
> Backlit display is nice. I missed this feature on our previous scale.
> Results have been generally consistent, after about a month of use.
> Fast, instant read results make weighing the toddler and the dogs easy.
I was worried the glass construction would be a problem with my clumsy step-dad in the house. Somehow, our last scale (with mostly plastic construction) cracked along the center of the base after he began staying with us. Au contrair! It seems he respects the perceived delicacy of the obviously glass construction, and treats this scale with respect. Also, he hasn't complained about it, and we have not heard him fumbling with it as with the last one. I believe he's either scared of breaking it, or is no longer having "toe tapping" issues since the previous scale required a tap to zero the unit before stepping on it. In any case, time will tell!
I am a little concerned about the smooth glass surface that lacks any texture and could pose a slipping hazard to wet feet. I installed a sturdy, medium-duty towel rack / grab bar on the wall the scale is parked in front of, just off to the side. It's something reliably secure to hold on to while stepping on to or off of the scale. Nothing overkill, unsightly or ADA-compliant, mind you -- just a standard bath-towel length bar that happens to be marketed as a grab bar, too, that I picked up from my local hardware store.
Customer Review: Fantastic, consistent scale Summary: 5 Stars
Operation: The first time you step on the scale it calibrates itself. The scale flashes your weight three times as it is calibrating, then the numbers turn solid once calibration completes. This takes about 5 seconds. After that, the scale is simple and straightforward to use: simply step on it (no more tap to turn on!) and within a couple seconds your weight is clearly displayed on the blue backlit display in black text, to the nearest 2/10ths of a pound. EatSmart does recommend this scale be on a flat, level surface for proper operation, so if you have an uneven tile floor in your bathroom you may need to find an alternate, more level location. The tile in my bathroom is slightly uneven, but I haven't noticed any issues with consistency or reliability.
Accuracy & Reliability: Stepping on and off the scale numerous times always results in the same reading. While I have not tested this scale with a known weight item to verify its accuracy, I am confident in its accuracy.
Aesthetics: The glass and metal design of the scale is quite pleasing, and will fit in nicely in any bathroom decor. Even stepping onto this scale shortly after showering does not leave any smears or water spots, and a quick wipe down with a damp cloth once every couple weeks is all that is necessary to keep it looking new.
Overall I am very pleased with this purchase, especially considering the low price and customer service (as reviewed by others, as I have had no need to contact them). I have recommended this scale to others who have purchased it and they have all been just as pleased as I have been, including my mother who has no problems reading the display despite less-than-perfect eyesight.
