My older 965RX shaver has been sitting in the drawer for over a year because the battery was dead. I have been using my Panasonic ES728 daily for the last few years. The Norelco OEM battery cost is about $20 and I was hesitant to get one after I opened up the 965RX and saw that the battery was soldered onto the board. Finally I run across this battery for about $5 plus shipping, I took the plunge and ordered one. It takes a Torx screw driver to open the 965RX back and I take out the IC board from the connector to the LCD/switch board. I used the dual heat solder iron at high heat (30W) to melt the solder on the board to remove the old battery. You can use the desolder gun but I prefer to use a metal pick to pry up the tabs from the board while the solder is still soft. Pull the old battery out after the tabs are free from the board. Put the new battery tabs into the same slots and apply new solder with low heat (15W) setting. The 965RX is now charged in 1 hour, the LCD show the battery status and it works just fine. I cannot say how long this set of battery will last as compared to the OEM (which lasted more than 5 years) but it looks like it holds charge for at least 8-12 days worth of shaving. I prefered the Norelco when my beard is a bit longer when I miss shaving a day. The Panasonic shaver is better for shorter beard and it is also washable. However, this battery gives life back to my trusty Norelco for a few more years and now I may need a new set of cutter. I could have purchase a new Norelco for about $40-80 but the quality is not even close to this old 965RX.
