Customer Reviews of Emerita Pro-Gest Natural Progesterone Cream, Paraben-Free, 4-Ounce Tube

Customer Review: Pro-gest Works!!
Summary: 4 Stars

I heard about progesterone cream about 1 1/2 years ago and was skeptical. I'm an RN and a natural health care consultant. I am now almost 49 years old. I think I've had hormone imbalances for many years, estrogen dominance. In the last 2 years it's been pretty tough. I employ dietary and lifestyle measures to decrease exogenous estrogen sources but my endogenous is very active due to high stress levels and heredity. I decided to try Pro-gest without going to a doctor and getting hormone levels tested with the idea that if things got crazy, I'd see an anti-aging holistically inclined hormone specialist (hint: I work for one... ;) I started taking the cream at around 80mg(1 teaspoon) twice daily for a total of about 160-200mg daily. This is much more than the typical recommendation but from what I've researched, this may be necessary initially to prevent worsening of unpleasant estrogen dominance symptoms as progesterone turns on more estrogen receptors (sensitizes dormant receptors)and this can go on for awhile. So, after a couple of days of the regularly recommended 40 mg/day and non-stop headaches, I increased my dose. I started Progest 6 weeks ago and within hours of my super duper dosing, the headaches went away and have not returned. Other immediate benefits that have me hooked on progesterone cream: Happiness even in challenging situations, calm, amazingly improved sleep, reduced breast soreness (this was lasting all month long before the cream). What has not happened yet: reduced fluid retention or weight loss. I am a puffy person with lots of fluid retention. This has not yet improved after 6 weeks, but apparently this can take 3-6 months as it takes awhile to balance the ratio between the two. I've had other lab done to rule out liver or kidney issues for the fluid retention and was just told that it's probably just "me". Great. Anyways, the mood, headaches and sleep are tremendously improved. Because of the large volume of cream that I've been applying, it takes forever to get it to absorb, it's pretty oily. So, I've tried the Source Naturals Paraben free and it works well and is less oily and absorbs much quicker than the Pro-gest. Source Naturals is less expensive and you can get it here on Amazon. It's just a tad stronger than progest and 4 ounces of it(2000mg) is $14.00. The cream I just received in the mail and have used twice is Natpro. It is 2.2 times as strong as Progest and therefore requires less volume, and, the best part is that it rubs right in immediately with no oily or sticky residue at all. Plus, it seems to work faster(ie calming effects quick in faster). Unfortunately it is not sold on amazon, but is a great price 2000mg for $24.00 or less if you order 3 at a time. The sum total of this review. I like Progest and it works well. The dosage that I am using requires an easier application. I think if you're using the small amount recommended, it's a great product and really works.

Customer Review: The best non prescription product for hot flashes
Summary: 4 Stars

When I began experiencing menopause symptoms, before I even had my last period, I had severe hot flashes and night sweats which woke me up several times a night, I also had memory loss. I finally went to see my doctor who prescribed HRT, the highest dosage. Soon the symptoms were gone, and of course I was all excited to be back to normal.
Almost two years later, I had my last period, at age 48. I thought that by having no more periods, the hot flashes would go away. My doctor began to lower my dosage but I still took HRT. Three years after being on HRT I developed a bad case of Melasma. My cheeks and nose had these ugly brown blotches. After doing a lot of reading and consulting my doctor I found out that HRT can cause melasma. I had never had this problem, always had a clear complexion, even when I took birth control in my 20's, but I was very bothered to look at myself and see the melasma that not even make-up could disguise.
Slowly, I began to wean myself off the HRT, over a period of a year. The hot flashes and night sweats were less but didn't go away. Finally when I weaned myself completely , I thought that I wouldn't get any more hot flashes, but I was very wrong. Here I was, 5 years after menopause and still being bothered by them. I tried several over the counter herbal pills, but nothing worked. It was like taking nothing at all, a waste of money.
Finally, I heard on a talk show about using progesterone creams for relieving hot flashes and night sweats and deciced to give it a try. It was my last hope to try something that would work but wouldn't give me melasma. That's when I decided to use this cream. I did a lot of research online and was pleased with the reviews and also liked that it had all natural ingredients.
When I first began using it, I used one quarter teaspoon twice a day. Inmmediately my night sweats lessened and the hot flashes were almost non-existent. The only drawback was that I got severe insomnia and hardly slept at all those first two nights, so I decided to cut back the dosage to one eighth of a teaspoon twice a day. This has helped a lot more. I still get a few hot flashes during the day if the weather is hot, if I drink something hot, or exercise, but I've noticed that when the weather is cold, I get no hot flashes at all during the day. If the nights are cold, I get no night sweats, but if they are warm, I do get a few, but not with the intensity that I was getting before. I also sleep better.
It has been five and a half years since I entered menopause and I hope that with time this goes away. At least now I've found a cream that has helped me better than anything off the counter without having side effects like the HRT.

Customer Review: Yes it works but proceed with caution...
Summary: 3 Stars

I tried the individual packets for span of 3 months. I was tested as being a bit low in progesterone, and then tried it and my first cycle while being on it-just for the luteal phase- at first was awesome, very little cramps or mood swings for that cycle. Then the next month came around and thought better safe than sorry and tried it again for a luteal phase, worked great, people couldn't believe my mellow demeanor and during this time I was cleaning out my mother's closet after her death which probably would've been hugely emotional but instead I was calm and level headed-surprisingly. Thought this stuff is a god send, then the following month I started to notice some early post period mood swings, I thought it was odd as my period had just ended and I had mood swings, so then I thought well maybe I should take it during the month long between periods span, and then the subsequent period I was completely so mellow I was practically lethargic - practically dopey and sleepy. So then I stopped completely right before my next period came, and that period was awful, almost like a rebound effect from going off of it in a matter of days, as if my estrogen was trying to catch up to the elevated progesterone levels. I concluded that while I may go through times of being prog. deficient or low, for me it may only be best used for a month here or there or perhaps every other month, or for 2 months off-2 months on - luteal phase only, either way i haven't tried it since as afraid of turning my normal hormones into a total mess.

One concern I have is that their products are dispensed in plastic containers that are made with BPA which is a known endocrine disruptor and xenoestrogen. Why on earth they don't get smart and put it in a glass pump bottle is just ridiculous! The packets are all plastic and that really worried me too as its surface ratio are more concentrated in plastic packets.

I think all women should be blood tested for a deficiency on day 22 of their cycle before their period starts before they think to take this or any other hormone replacement-natural or synthetic. I'm 37 and have Endometriosis and one can just have weird #s sometimes. I wouldn't think judging by results that it takes alot to reset one's levels. I also do not take BCP ever so my levels may be off due to thyroid or other adrenal level issues.

Overall I'd say it works, but use as needed unless in menopause or have been tested with chronic long term low levels, or for short durations. And pls be under the supervision of a natural dr willing to test you regularly to see if its working and you level off. :D

Customer Review: Immediate relief of perimenopausal symptoms
Summary: 5 Stars

Wow...I can't believe that I struggled so long before discovering this cream. I am 46 and I've had insomnia, night sweats, exhaustion, irregular periods and foggy thinking for nearly 5 years and was at the end of my rope. My symptoms would vary in severity at different times "of the month". The past year has been horrible and I noticed an immediate aging of my skin as well. I read that a lack of progesterone can accelerate the aging process and that natural progesterone can reverse the aging process (not reverse the damage already done to your skin). After searching for relief I came across this cream and decided to try it...IT IS A MIRACLE. I no longer suffer from insomnia or night sweats and I can think clearly again. I feel normal and can function again. Being able to get a good nights sleep is an amazing feeling.

Prior to starting the cream I went to my doctor for bloodwork and had my hormones checked. Everything came back normal. From surfing of the internet I later found out that the best time to check your hormones is around day 22 of your cycle and the saliva test is the most accurate. I was on day 3 of my cycle and I KNEW that there was no way that my hormones were normal, so I went ahead and started the cream anyway. When I first started the cream I used the "pea size" amount that was suggested 2x a day. I slept like a rock and had one minor night sweat for the first two days. I also had mild headaches and gained 4 lbs of water retention, so I decided to cut the amount in half after a few days and the headaches did not return and the water weight dropped off in a day. No night sweats since and I still sleep well. Maybe "pea size" refers to baby peas and I was using too much. I started the cream on day 8 of my cycle as recommended. I have not gotten my period yet, so I can't comment on whether or not it will help regulate it. I was getting my period every 18 days or less and I'm on day 17, but I don't feel like it's coming yet.

In the past year I haven't had the energy to workout (previously I was a gym fanatic) and I'm happy to say that I started back to the gym after a couple of days of use of this cream and have been going every other day and feel fantastic. The way that I feel now is not a placebo effect - you can't rid yourself of perimenopause symptoms with a placebo. Any woman experiencing those symptoms knows that they are not in your head. I'm on auto-ship now!

Customer Review: Seems to be effective for PCOS.
Summary: 5 Stars

I first started using this Natural Progesterone Cream for my PCOS (Polycistic Ovarian Syndrome) in August. As per the recommendations of Dr. John Lee. I use it for two weeks on and then I'm off of it for two weeks and then I repeat the cycle over again, making allowances for my period when needed. So far I have been most pleased. It seems to be working exactly by the text book. The first month my acne started clearing up. The second month my acne was so clear my skin had a natural glow, to the point where I quit using the mounds of makeup I had been using. By the fourth month, lo and behold, my period was regular and I had no signs of PMS. (According to the natural health doctors PMS is all a sign of hormone imbalances. We women aren't supposed to go through the torture conventional medicine has us believing is normal.) My period was regular again by the fifth month. (That has never happened to me before in my entire life, since I started at thirteen and a half.) And now that the end of the fifth month is approaching, I'm starting to lose weight. All of this is exactly as the natural Progesterone Cream treatment for PCOS is stated to work. Therefore, I think those that call this the "Cinderella" hormone, are right. It is absolutely marvelous. When I first used it, I did gain about three or four pounds. Which alarmed me, but I decided to heed the medical advice and follow the process. Much to my delight. As anyone who has PCOS knows, due to our hormone imbalances we have a lot of inner turmoil. However, with this cream I feel such peace and tranquility inside. So much so, that I'm at ease with both myself and others. Incidentally, I'm also a singer. And I've noticed that the quality of my singing voice has improved with this as well. (The first month I did struggle some vocally with this cream, but it soon passed.) I'll post more updates as I keep using it. But for now, suffice it to say, this cream is my lifesaver. And I am currently using it and intend to keep on using it. Definitely five stars out of five.
