The humidifier arrived quickly and well packaged, however the unit was defective. It would not start up. Sometimes it would just screech - which I think is the alarm that it is out of water, though it had water in it. Nothing ever appeared on the blue LCD screen except for some garbled gibberish at times.
Sad to say, but back it goes! Don't think going to try another...
update on packets: I emailed their support in regards to the 2 packets of stuff (they were loose for me as well). They said that they are suppose to be inside of the filter and must have become loose during shipment.

This is the second one of these I am purchasing this month because it works so well, my son and newly pregnant daughter-in-law guilted me into giving mine to them . . . for the sake of the grandchild - haha. Anyway, it is fast, silent, and (unlike other reviewer) I like that it beeps when it runs out of water. It takes more than 12 hours of straight running for it to beep, so if beeping bothers you refill at 10 hours when it gets close to empty. I think 12 hours is a long time for a portable humidifier with a Humidistat.Customer Review: Works well for me

I almost didn't buy this after reading the negative reviews. I'm glad I bought it, though. This humidifier works well, doesn't leak although it will put out enough mist on the high setting to make things close by wet. That's why it comes on at the medium level! It is quiet and does its' job. The only reason I didn't rate it a 5 is the automatic mode doesn't function well - the hygrometer is unstable. We live at 6000 ft and altitude can have that affect.Customer Review: Tank leaked on arrival

The water tank leaked when recieved it. Luckily I had some silicone caulk lying around so I fixed it, but if I pay $100 for something I expect it to work properly. I give it three stars because after I fixed it, it works well. The feature to automatically maintain the humidity in the room is not that accurate, it keeps rest of the room within 10% of the humidity level set on the unit. If you tinker with it though, it's not that bad.Customer Review: worst buy ever

It arrived in a timely manner (well, considering the $8.95 shipping charge),and it worked at first, despite the loud noise it makes for a ultrasonic hummidifier. A few days later, it started to make the screech in the middle of the night, which I suppose was the alarm for low water level, however, there was well more than half a tank of water in it.
If you are thinking about buying this product, think twice.
