Customer Reviews of Eva-dry Electric Petite DehumidifierCustomer Review: Very surprised and disappointed Summary: 1 Stars
First, I have never written a bad review for a product and am not a high expectation malcontent, just a guy with a very musty first floor/basement. After reading the glowing reviews, I thought I'd give this a shot as a supplement to the 2 other, full-size dehumidifiers I have going downstairs, each of which gets emptied about every 12 hours. With those in the main rooms, I tried this first in a back room without another dehumidifier, then the bathroom, then without the other dehumidifiers running at all and finally in a closed bathroom after having taken a shower, with wet towels and bathing suits hanging to dry. Regradless of the placement or time given to suck moisture out of the air, it never filled over the course of 3 weeks. Yes it's small and yes it's quiet, but I would have at least expected to empty it a couple times given what I put it through. Perhaps mine is just a lemon. Still, there are other quiet, albeit larger dehumidifiers that aren't ugly box eye sores in a room, and that do well with less than the optimal clearance around them -- like the Soleus 40 pint. This place is like the Betty Crocker Test Kitchen for dehumidifiers, and the Soleus is definitely the most quiet and efficient unit. If pulling a few tablespoons of water a day out of a humid room is enough, this will do that. But the unit I used was no more effective than a container of Damprid. And it's a shame -- I'd thought I'd found the perfect little solution.
Customer Review: Fixing Eva-Dry 1100 Summary: 4 Stars
I have three of these mini dehumidifiers and they worked well, but all died after 11-15 months. Rather than dump them, I managed to get hold of someone who would repair them and it turns out that they are really simple devices. A fan blows air over a Peltier cooling device and that causes moisture to condense and fill up the reservior. For two of my devices, the power supply had died. It turned out that the power supply is not designed for continuous usage in a confined space. If you run it 24/7 in a small cupboard, it will eventually fail because of the effect of high heat on the pwer supply. The solution I was told was to fix a simple timer, which turns it off for 30 mins every two hours. However, you still have to get the power supply fixed and there is a unique plug into the back of the dehumidifier. Anyway, the chap managed to get an equivalent power supply for about $10 and cut the plug off the old one to join to the new power supply. So far both are working great. As for the 3rd one, it wasn't the power supply but the fan. This one had been working for 14 months continuously and the fan made horrible noises before it finally died. I fugured that this power supply survived for so long because it was in a moderately large cabinet so it didn't get too hot. We opened up the unit and managed to get the fan out and replaced it with a $5 fan from the PC
Customer Review: I just love this Dehumidifier! Summary: 5 Stars
Besides being adorable and contemporary looking, it works fabulously! It pulls a lot of water out of the air in here - I have it working in a rather large room - I am strongly considering getting it a sister or brother to help with the process. Even with the A/C on, it is AMAZING how much water it pulls out of the air. The pan fills in about 2 1/2 -3 days to shutoff. I live in the Northeast near NYC and our humidity at night is 100% nearly every night and often 70-80 during the days .. EVEN if the temps are cool, the humidity is way up this time of year.
I do not like humidity. It makes papers limp, tape does not hold on things, papers and pictures curl, the air feels damp and heavy and I don't feel as energetic (all even with the a/c on because this place is not air tight). The Eva-dry Petite Dehumidifier helps, I can FEEL a difference. I love it!
It is quiet, but NOT SOUNDLESS, it sounds like a quiet whooosh sound, no buzz, no motor sound, just an airy light whoosh with a bit of barely perceptible mmmmmm to it if I listen closely. If you have zero sound in your home and are near it, you will hear it, otherwise you won't. I have no idea why people have reported it being loud, this unit is certainly whisper quiet.
It is EXACTLY what I expected and wanted!
Customer Review: Works great year round, after replacing faulty power adapter Summary: 5 Stars
I have 4 of these units, and made my purchase over a year ago. I live in an area that has rain a majority of the year, so having a dehumidifier is essential for mold and mildew control. After about 9 months, a couple of the dehumidifiers quit working. I called Eva-Dry, and was told after describing my unit and adapter, that the adapter was likely the issue. They'd been getting feedback on units shutting down, and the company discovered that it was due to the design of the power adapter. (The older adapter cords are two parts that connect together, not one piece.) The guy told me that Eva-Dry designed a new power adapter, and asked me to return my unit for a replacement as it was still under warranty. I told him I didn't want the hassle, just to buy the replacement part. Once I received the new adapters and replaced the faulty ones, the units immediately turned on and have been running ever since, no problems here.
If your unit has stopped running, just call Eva-Dry and get the replacement adapter. If it's under warranty, they'll replace it for free, however, you need to pay the shipping cost. I didn't want the delay or the hassle. This has been a necessary and very worth while investment.
Call Eva-Dry at 877-382-3790 to order replacement plugs.
Customer Review: functions as it should Summary: 4 Stars
The Eva-dry seems to be a fine little dehumidifier. It's very small - much smaller than I was expecting. The thing is less than 1 foot tall! It's very simple to use: plug it in, turn the switch on, and empty the water tank when it fills up (and yes, it will automatically turn off when it is full).
But, as many other reviewers say, it can only have much effect in a very small space (I use mine in my closet). I also have a Soleus Air CFM-40 E 40-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat, which is a full size dehumidifier, and much more effective for use in, say, a bedroom.
Just to put it in perspective: the Soleus Air has a collection tank that can hold probably about 10 times as much water as the Eva-Dry. But where the Soleus takes only a day to completely fill up, the Eva-Dry takes about twice as long. So I think this means the Eva-Dry is taking water out of the air at about 1/20 the rate of the Soleus. (These numbers are best guesses, definiteley not exact.)
Anyway, that being said, it does do its job. As long as it's a small job.
