Customer Review: Great for sensitive fair skin
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
To try out this sunscreen, I spent the better part of the day in full sun putting up a fence. No burning on or irritation on my fair, sensitive skin. I was in the sun long enough to actually get a tan line from my watch, but no redness or burning. Best of all, it either stays put when you sweat or doesn't have eye-stinging chemicals, because my eyes weren't in agony like they usually are 5 minutes after stepping out into the heat with sunscreen on. I used it liberally all over my face (and wasn't at all careful around my eyes--just closed my eyes and slopped it on) and had no breakouts or stinging eyes.

I doesn't have an overpowering smell, and it absorbed quickly and didn't feel thick and greasy like a lot of sunscreens. One weird thing: it's tinted, so it looks (and feels--I can't quite describe it, but if you've used liquid foundation, you'll recognize the feel) more like cosmetic foundation than lotion. The color didn't show up on my skin, but if you have smears you don't rub in, they'll be beige instead of white like they are with most sunscreens. It's a mineral-based sunscreen (whatever that means), so I'm guessing that accounts for the tint and feel.

And as a control reference point, I did forget a spot (the 1-inch strip between the top of your jeans and the bottom of your shirt that's exposed when you bend over) and got badly burned there.

One last note: I didn't wait 15 minutes before exposure, per the instructions, because I was in a hurry, but it didn't seem to matter for me.

Customer Review: Pretty good ...powerful protection, despite a few drawbacks

I like Cotz because it primarily contains two UV-blocking ingredients, and not a lot of extra chemicals, perfumes, or additives. Additionally, I'm amazed at how this can be "clear" - usually, titanium ozide or zinc are an opaque white (the kind lifeguards apply to their noses). But this goes on pretty clear. And it's an extremely effective sunblock, and seems to last a long time, despite sweating (I haven't tried it in water yet).

That being said, there are a few drawbacks. First, it's not really odorless - but it is nearly odorless. I don't really mark them down for that. But do not expect a lotion that smells like baby oil, coconut oil, or traditional suntan lotion.

Second, it does go on clear, but don't touch your skin with white or light-colored clothing.

Third, and probably most important, titanium dioxide is not completely safe for frequent use. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) recently categorized titanium dioxide as a possible carcinogen to humans. That being said, it appears to cause lung cancer more than anything (when inhaled). Even though urine tests will pop positive for titanium dioxide when applied to the skin, the level of carcinogenic properties is unknown for topical applications like this.

So my recommendation would be to use it if you have severe skin/burning problems, use sparingly on those longs days at the beach, but not use too often.

Customer Review: Wonderful even for extremely sensitive skin
Summary: 5 Stars

Wonderful sun protection for anyone, for those of us with sensitive skin and those who want to avoid unnecessary chemicals that could cause problems in the future.

I've had skin rashes from allergies/sensitivities for years, and about four years ago I also developed eczema. I have extremely pale skin and need serious sun protection. In winter I simply wrap a scarf around my face whenever I am outside, but that is not practical in warm weather. I was a long-time user of a brand of sunscreen that went off the market two years ago. I have struggled to find another sunscreen/block that I could tolerate. Many burn when I put them on and most either caused or aggravated skin problems.

Not so with this fantastic product. I've been using it for three weeks and I love it. When I started using it, the skin on my face was in the worst shape ever and I was in agony. Not only did this product not irritate my skin, but it actually seemed to soothe it. I felt the difference immediately, and the redness, swelling, itching and burning disappeared within two days of use. In a few days, my skin was back to being soft and smooth. What a relief!

I also tried the Fallene Total Block Clear last summer, and that also seemed to work, although I was not having many skin problems at the time so the conditions were not as extreme. In other words, it did not irritate my skin, but whether it had the same soothing qualities, I cannot say. I would not hesitate to recommend either product to anyone.

I should add that neither Fallene product caused any acne-type problems, unlike a few other skin products I have tried.

Customer Review: Cotz Coats and Is an Alternative to Mainstream Brands
Summary: 4 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
My name is Jarucia and I'm a sunscreen-aholic.

Admittedly I'm not as pale as the fresh driven snow, but my skin is still as light as a white flesh nectarine.

More than 10 minutes in the sun and I feel as if I'm roasting. All that sunscreens do for me is ensure that I don't burn.

As a purveyor of all things SPF over 25 AND organic, I can't say I'd turn my nose up to Cotz. It rubs on smooth (though don't be too liberal), I like the tint (which stayed put on me), and left my skin feel comfortably cool the direct sunlight (which is always an added treat). I left some skin uncoated next to the Cotz coated skin and it was roasting.

I live in the PNW so the weather isn't muggy enough to interfere with absorption and drying, but in all fairness few if any sunscreens I've used in muggy climates ever get past being sticky.

As an alternative to many mainstream commercial brands, I liked the ingredient list for Cotz but wasn't crazy about it. This point is simply a personal choice for the skin guardian in each of us.

Also, as with most general sunscreens, I did not and would not apply this to my face. Face specific lotions should be used for that.

Overall, I liked this product and feel it delivers as promises. It is a tad on the pricey side, but with the way it spreads a little does go a long way.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
"Fallene Ctoz SPF 58 Water Resistant UVB/UVA Sunsceen for Sensistive skin" is quite a mouth-full for, let's face it, sunscreen. Not that's it's bad sunscreen. Actually, it's quite good. The color and texture of the product takes a little getting-used-to. Instead of the oily viscous liquid sunscreen I'm used to, this sunscreen's consistency was more paste-like. That made it easier to apply...but also tended to make it less spread-able on my skin. So, I had to use more of it to cover the areas that would be exposed to the deadly-yet-life-giving sun.

The color was a nice orangy-tan color. It was a nice color, but I'll admit that I thought it was weird at first. I'm used to sunblock coming in one color--white. My wife, however was excited about the tan color because it wouldn't look so weird if you didn't rub it in perfectly.

I did go in the beautiful waters of Wisconsin's Castle Rock Lake with the sunblock on. And, as far as I can tell, the "water resistant" characteristic is accurate. Although I was out on the lake for several hours, I didn't burn. So (although I can't tell with certaincy), the 58 SPF, UVB/UVA acronyms do seem to hold water.

In all, it's a pretty good sunblock. I didn't get a whole lot of "bang for my buck" with it, but what I was able to slather on my body protected me well. Mildly recommended.
