Customer Reviews of Farouk CHI 1 Inch Ceramic Flat Hairstyling Iron

Customer Review: Get it!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had been using a regular old Conair flat iron for about a year or two. While the flat iron worked well for me during the winter months when the Louisiana humidity wouldn't act up, I didn't bother to waste my time with it during the rest of the year because as soon as I'd step outside, my naturally curly hair would resort back to it's natural form.
Last year I was given the CHI model as a gift and let's just say that I "donated" the Conair model. I'm not the kind of person to follow with celebrity trends, but there is a reason why this flat iron is so popular with the "elite," if you will.
It takes up half the time my old Conair model did in heating up. Hell, I can get my hair done in less time with the Chi than it would take for my old flat iron to heat up! My hair is soft, shiny, and it doesn't look or feel like I'm putting it through a torture chamber.
I was raised to believe that it is rude to ask someone how much money they may have spent on a personal gift. My cousin owns a Chi flat iron and slipped the price one day during a conversation. While I am shocked that it cost that much money, I can only tell the fellow curly haired, humidity suffering people that this flat iron is worth every single penny!
Now my only complaint with the flat iron is the heat. I actually had to flat iron my hair with gloves on a few times because my hair would get so hot after running it through the flat iron. The blister on my fingers from the heat should be a warning to the accident prone, but when I walk out of the house in the morning and return home at night with my hair not in a curl frenzy, it's well worth it. I guess you could say pain is love.

Customer Review: Yay chi!
Summary: 5 Stars

My hair is very fine, almost like a baby's, and straight, but not stick-straight, so it tends to flip outwards when I want it to flip under, and vice versa. I had been using a regular old flat iron, something that cost $25 dollars at K-Mart, and I could tell it damaged my hair by the dried, fried ends that I had to cut off once a month, not to mention the crackling noise it would make as it singed my hair.

I went to a new hairdresser who is a family friend, and she worked wonders with the Chi, making my hair silky smooth and flipping the ends up all with one iron. She highly recommended the Chi for its versatility and for the fact that it doesn't damage your hair like cheaper flat irons do. She said that the $120 is worth it, and I was so impressed I decided to start saving for one.

I found one on Amazon for around $85, and I think it's a great investment. I haven't mastered the flip yet, but my hairdresser has promised to teach me all the tricks that the Chi will perform. My cousin has extremely curly hair that is difficult to work with, and she used the Chi and ended up with super-glossy, pin-straight hair in a lot less time than it would have taken her with a cheap flat iron.

I recommend this product to anyone who is fed up with regular flat irons that just don't give you the results you want. The Chi is hot immediately after turning it on and it doesn't singe your hair. I've been using it a little over a month and my ends are not splitting or drying out. My hairdresser recommended the Chi Keratin Mist as a conditioner to protect my hair from the heat, and I think they make a great combination.

Customer Review: Good Bye CHI

Gender: Male
Experience with self-straightening hair: 2 Years
Previous product: CON AIR CS19JCS (184 reviews - 4.5 star)
Hair Length: Shoulder length for couple months, and now short 2-inch hair.

Ok. So I was waiting to get this CHI straightener. I got sooo excited reading 710 4.5 star reviews. Wow!! I was sure that's gonna give me a Brendon Frazer / Tom Cruise look. And I got it yesterday.

Welcome CHI! Yesterday I had a 6-inch long hair and started to run my CHI down. All the reviews came to my mind, "smooth, silky hair, good-bye frizz, beautiful hair... ". I was scared to death when I looked at my hair in the mirror. It was stick-straight. That wasn't the problem. But it was sticking out like that of a cartoon character that just had a 2000 volt current shock. I couldn't even style it as I normally do since my hair was just sticking straight and not even budging. The straightener and everything was perfect. No defects.

I had a hair cut today and shortened it to 2 inches. Again CHI wasn't happy with me. Those 2-inch hairs were sticking straight. I had to use my old con-air straightener to correct it and apply a lot of gel to bring it down.

I have no problem with straightening my hair since I have been doing this for 2 years now, and am quite comfortable with both long and short hairs. My Con Air straightener was reallyy good, since it came with a comb, that really helped me guide my hair to any style I desire.

This product might be designed for very long hairs that's always worn down. If you are a male with short hair, think before you buy.

Customer Review: Good - but not as good as I expected
Summary: 4 Stars

After hearing by word of mouth how great the CHI iron is and reading the rave reviews on Amazon I had high hopes for this iron. My hair is long, very thick, and very curly. I was using a cheapie Revlon straightener that got hot enough for me, but it would lose heat and I had to go over sections of my hair several times to straighten it. It didn't cause me enough trouble that I wanted to buy another straighter though. Until I found out it's bad to wrap the cord around the iron because it messes up the cord. One morning my old iron sparked at me so I realized it was time for a new one. On a recommendation from my cousin/stylist, my mom, co-workers, etc I was told it was worth it to buy the CHI. So I bought it here expecting to be blown away. Don't get me wrong, it is a good iron, and it does hold it's heat (unlike ANY cheapie irons, even the ones that say they don't lose heat) but I still have to straighten my unruly hair in sections and I still have to go over some sections more than once. So I wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. I also now have to blow dry all my hair first and then straigten it all instead of blow drying a section and then straigtening a section because my blow drier and this straigtener both have big plugs. That being said, it does work better than my old straigtener because it doesn't lose heat. I also love the little velcro strap that came on the cord that way I can wrap it up without wrapping it around the iron. Is it worth the money? I guess so because it doesn't lose heat, but it's not the miracle product the rave reviews on here claim it to be. At least not for my hair.

Customer Review: terrific; but very fragile
Summary: 4 Stars

i have very thick, frizzy, wavy, dry and extremely fine hair that is usually chemically colored, and i have been relying on my chi iron for over 4 years now (well, i'm on my second one, but i'll get to that below). it's very hot, and you need to make sure you use a lot of protective product (like wax or silicon serum or protective spray) as well as a nice deep conditioner, but it's a lot less damaging than blow drying everyday (which i used to do; now i just blow dry the top roots or let my hair air dry and iron it flat. my hair is a lot healthier than it was when i used to blow dry or curl and dry it). and if you have dry enough hair and scalp to go a day or two between washings, the straight will last until your hair gets wet again, with only minor neccessary touch ups.

as for the fragility, this thing is verging on ridiculous. never NEVER wrap the cord around the shaft, that messes up the connection in the swivel. if you have to pack it or store it, always hold the prongs closed with a hair band and then gather the cord into a separate bundle, and be careful not to pull on the base of the cord (it's a pain, but for an expensive piece of equipment, it's worth it). i've had my current iron for almost 3 years now, and it just started giving me some trouble this morning (the reset button keeps popping up and turning it off), and i use it almost every day. i just leave mine out on the counter to negate the danger of damaging the cord connection, but it's traveled with me fairly extensively too. you can't throw it around like a hair dryer, but if you treat it well, it'll be good to you too.
