I have had many straighteners over the years, and this is BY FAR the best. I'm Indian and I have long, thick, wavy hair. It only took five minutes to straighten it! I let my hair air dry so it was wavy/frizzy. I sprayed VO5 miracle mist heat defense conditioning spray on my hair (to protect it), and in only FIVE MINUTES my whole head of hair was straight, soft, and silky! I've heard that CHI is the best from many people, and now I know firsthand! DEFINITELY worth the money! It heats up really quickly, but the iron also stays hot for a while afterward, so you have to take extra precautions and not leave it on or near anything that could melt, burn, or be damaged by heat.
AMAZING! Faster and more effective than anything else, even straighteners with wider plates! I didn't have to press down hard, either, which I had to do with my old straighteners to get my hair really straight. I just had to lightly press the plates together and the immense heat did all the work, so I didn't have to! And I only had to go through a section of hair ONCE to get it straight, versus the multiple passes that were required with my other straighteners.
I haven't yet tried to curl my hair with it (as it's advertised to do) and I haven't been in a humid environment yet to see if my hair stays straight, but I will update my review with the results!

I have very thick, wavy, somewhat coarse hair. I used to do nothing with it...just let it hang down or throw it up in a pony tail. One day a friend told me to try straightening it. So I did, with a Revlon flat iron. It did it's job as good as I thought it would but then one day I got my hair styled at a salon where they used the Chi. I fel in love. I saved up my money and bought the Chi and have been using it ever since.
The Chi heats up VERY quickly and gets VERY hot. One of the draw backs that I have is putting it down on a surface it won't burn. I've seen that there are "bags" to put them in after they are turned off, but seeing that i don't have one of these the heat can be an issue.
Because the Chi heats up so hot it does a great job straightening hair! With most flat irons you have to blow dry wet hair so it's somewhat straight and then straighten it with a flat iron. Not with the Chi. Now you will get, thinner, flatter hair if you blow dry it first BUT dry hair will straighten just fine! Also, because the Chi does get hot do NOT keep it on your hair too long. It can and will burn your hair if you hold it on too long.
Some people say that you need to use the Chi products to protect your hair and make it all shiny. I have never used any of the Chi products and my hair turns out fine.

Don't get me wrong it is the best flat iron I have bought but it is misleading to say that it is ceramic. I will be buying a real ceramic flat iron as soon as I can get the money together. Here is how I found out the unfortunate news....... I was walking through the mall yesterday when one of those really annoying kiosk people jumped in front of me and demanded my attention. I listened to him for about as long as I could maybe a whole 2 minutes before he tried to attack my hair with a rat tail comb and a flat iron,I had enough!! I ducked and ran. What I didn't know at the time was that he actually had some very valuable info if you straighten your hair as much as I do. The Chi iron that cost you over $100 is a fake. It is actually metal and has an extremely thin layer of ceramic coating!!!! The guy at the kiosk sat there and scratched the Chi iron in front of me and I was thinking -that is a fake Chi. So I went home and did the same to my Chi flat iron on the side of it----SHINY METAL!!!I Guess I could have just gone with a $20 dollar Revlon flat iron huh. No wonder I have dropped it about a million times and it hasn't broken the "ceramic" plates........Now I don't know what brand to trust since even hair stylists recommend it. So many fads so little time and Review: GREAT!!! ...UNTIL YOU DROP THIS ISH!!!!Summary: 3 Stars I had been craving for a GOOD flat iron like every girls does, and only dreamed of owning a CHI from all the great reviews that I have read on Amazon and from friends... and finally when I scrounge enough nickels and dimes to get one on Amazon, I bought and one and fell in love with it! I dropped it by accident 2 weeks ago - and it was an "honest" drop! It slipped out of my hand when I was packing my bag to travel, no throwing it across the room or letting someone borrow it - I am overprotective of my stuff! ... And it was this past summer that I just bought my CHI.
Then, picture the night when you are getting ready to go out with your girlfriends and you have your outfit ready, and your trusty CHI by your side. You step into the bathroom, plug her up and turn the switch on - NO LIGHT. You press the test switch and still, NO LIGHT and NO HEAT. Let's just say, I was unhappy that my hair ended up under a hat that night.
I didn't think the reviews I read about NOT letting it drop would apply to the CHI I bought, but it sure enough did folks. Better watch out! I still love the CHI, but now I don't know if it's worth getting another one or if I'm better off doing the research for another brand who is more deserving of my $$!
Customer Review: Amazing Flat Iron, when it works? (WARNING)

This Chi flat hair Iron is a solid product, WHEN IT WORKS.
I can only imagine what it would be like to actually own a properly operating one that has no indication, to cause suspicion, of it having been used or a once returned defective item that has been resold.
The iron did arrive as quickly as expected but lacking any reliable functionality, as stated. The Seller (Top Discount Beauty) was then quickly requested help in fixing said issues but a labyrinth of business rules from seller pretty much solidifies against any chance of issues/problems with item ever being corrected.
In lame man terms, their policies should simply read, you bought you keep it and if you return it we can legally charge you for it's shipping without actually fixing it or we can keep it and resale it to another unsuspecting customer without recourse from original purchaser.
So besides their rules of engagement being so winded and legally vague for the worse, beware that Seller has no intentions of assisting any nagging and/or technical issues.
Top Discount Beauty should be renamed,
"You bought it, You keep it, Goodbye Services."
Guess I will have to purchase this AMAZING item again from its actual manufacture.
