Customer Reviews of Futuro Plantar Fasciitis Sleep SupportCustomer Review: Makes my foot numb Summary: 1 Stars
I have Plantar Fasciitis as well as Type 2 Diabetes and Metatarsalgia. I thought this splint would help and in the morning after the first nights' wear, my foot did feel better. It holds my foot in a somewhat flexed position, but not fully flexed, so it does not provide maximum stretch. The calf strap also does not hold the plastic splint in place, so after wearing it for a bit it begins to slide down my foot. In order to keep it from sliding down my foot and causing the front to slip off my toes, I tighten both the calf and the foot straps. The effect of this is a minimal improvement in the fit (it still slides down) and a resulting numbness across the entire top of my foot. If you have Type 2 Diabetes and are prone to nerve issues like me, you might not want to buy this one. The pressure of the plastic on the top of the foot, while not painful or uncomfortable, is still too much pressure for sensitive nerves.
If you have a mild case of Plantar Fasciitis and no other issues, this may work great for you, assuming you can get it to stay in place. For me, however, I can get the same results without numbness if I sleep on the couch with my foot pressed flat against the arm of the couch.
Customer Review: One-size-fits-most doesn't cut it Summary: 2 Stars
Like another reviewer, I have a very small foot (usually have to shop in the boy's department to get properly fitting shoes and socks.) This splint just doesn't do the trick for me. Yes, I do find it quite comfortable but the downside of that is, it's simply not very effective. The in-front-of-the-shin design and limited straps allows the splint to slide down the calf, thus reducing the amount of stretch. Plus, no matter how tightly I pull the straps, the foot 'sags' within the splint, limiting the stretch and, thus, its effectiveness. In fact, the over-the-foot/shin style actually hinders my ability to manually stretch the top of my foot and toes. This splint basically does everything opposite of what I need it to do. If you have a normal size foot (perhaps a woman's 7 or larger), and you're looking only for a very gentle stretch, you may find this comfortable and effective enough. For those of us with tiny feet and/or those looking for a really good stretch, this probably won't work very well. I'll be getting an under-the-foot version to see if that works better for me. If THAT doesn't work, I'll break out some plaster bandages, Velcro, and sturdy cloth and make my own night splint.
Customer Review: Doesn't fit right without cutting off circulation Summary: 1 Stars
I found it almost impossible to adjust it to keep my foot in the proper position. If I made it loose enough that it didn't cut off circulation in my foot (or calf), then it would slip down the calf and my foot would end up pretty much in its normal position. If I made things tight enough to somewhat hold my foot in the position it should be in for a device like this, then my toes would start to tingle and foot fall asleep right away or there would bee a lot of pressure on my lower leg/ calf area.
Basically, if your foot flexes downward (away from the knee, which is what you're trying to prevent) then it just causes the velcro around the calf to slide down unless you make everything incredibly tight.
Like some others, I had to rip it off after not wearing it for very long in order for me to fall asleep (rather than just having my foot asleep, that is).
I think the concept of "pulling up" on your foot from the top may just be flawed, as opposed to having something under your foot to "push up" on it or hold it up.
Complete waste of money for me. Maybe it would work for some depending on the size and structure of your foot and calf.
Customer Review: painfree at last Summary: 5 Stars
I have been unable to walk every morning for months because of the terrible pain in my heel when I walked. Bought this night brace ( it was the cheapest on Amazon) and decided to give it a try. I am a shoe size 8 female and the brace was very easy to attach. It has adjustable strap around your instep and an adjustable strap around the calf. The strap around the calf has 2 different velcro taps to help with adjustment (one on the left and one on the right). I had no problem with the boot staying in place. The boot is NOT designed to stretch the fasciitis, it is designed to hold the foot in a 90 -85 degree angle. At night when you relax your foot during sleep the toes relax and your foot spends 8 hours in a 45 degree angle during which the fasciitis tendon pulls tight. Thus when you wake in the morning it is very painful to walk until you restretch the tendon. This morning when I got out of bed after wearing the brace only ONE night. I could have danced. My foot was pain free. I have been doing the recommended stretchine exercises as well and I finally believe that I will evetually fully recover from this painful experience. I HIGHLY recommend this product.
Customer Review: Uncomfortable & Ineffective Summary: 1 Stars
This was the only night splint solution available in my local drugstore, so I figured I'd give it a try. I feel like the pressure or support is coming from the wrong place on this splint. It pressures your foot and ankle from the top instead of stretching it. The first night my foot fell asleep within the first hour of wearing it in bed. The velcro straps were definitely not too tight ... it was the pressure from the top part of the "boot". I also had trouble getting the boot to stay in place. If I kept perfectly still it was fine (except for the foot-falling-asleep part). But the second I rolled over or moved my foot at all, my foot would move within the velcro straps. I feel like this should have something around the ankle to keep it in place - the velcro strap around the calf allows for the boot to slip down to the narrower part of your leg toward the ankle.
A total waste of money. Not that I expected the first thing I tried to work. I was just disappointed that I couldn't even make it through the night wearing it (I tried it 4 nights in a row).
