Customer Review: Works as it should; acceptable taste

Generally, I evaluate energy drinks based on 3 criteria: Value, Taste, and Quality/Effectiveness.
Value: Excellent value. At around half the cost per each can of similar energy drinks you can buy at local grocery stores, the Guru 24-pack is priced very competitively. As far as the price/quantity goes, I have no complaint. Numerically, I would give it a 9 out of 10 for value.
Taste: Guru has a unique flavor. The normal energy drink fizz and acidity is there, of course, but the flavor and aftertaste is reminiscent of wine. It's not bad, per se, but it is not something that made me think, "this is good" at first taste. My first reaction was to take a couple of seconds to mull over what exactly the mix of flavors was and whether I liked it or not. As it stands now, I would have to say the taste is "acceptable". It's not a particularly sweet drink, either, but that might be just in comparison to my normal preferred energy drink brand, Monster (particularly, "Assault" and "Mixxd"). 4/10 for taste.
Quality/Effectiveness: The active "energy" ingredient in this drink is guarana. Which means caffeine (120mg worth per can) is what gives the drink its kick. That's a considerable amount for ~ 8 oz can, but it's still on par with other high caffeine energy drinks. More than the equivalent amount of Monster (~80mg caffeine), but a little less than NOS (~125mg caffeine). I drink energy drinks to help me stay up during night shifts on days where I couldn't get enough sleep during the day, and 2 cans of Guru (one every 5 hours or so) were enough to keep me awake and alert all night.
One thing I did notice, though, is that Guru gave me a bit of gastric discomfort every night a little while after drinking it. While this isn't uncommon for frequent drinkers of energy drinks like myself, it wasn't something I had felt before; it was more like a abdominal cramping feeling, but without the pain. It wasn't severe at all and it hasn't lasted more than a minute or two, but I thought it worth mentioning. It's possible that one of the "natural" ingredients doesn't sit quite well with me, and in all likelihood I'm one of the few - or only - people who experienced this while drinking the product. Even taking this into account, I would give Guru a 7 out of 10 for Effectiveness/Quality.
This drink is a good value for the price, and while I am finishing the first case I ordered, I probably won't order it in the near future. It's effective as an energy drink, but I prefer the flavors of other drinks (Amp Lightning, Monster, NOS Grape, etc) too much to drink this on a regular basis. I would recommend trying it once at least if you are looking for a new and inexpensive energy drink. Ideally, I would give this drink a 3.5 out of 5.
