Customer Reviews of GoWear fit Display DeviceCustomer Review: Device is awesome but you WILL lose it Summary: 2 Stars
Last year I bought the GoWearFit system and have used it quite a bit for hiking and various other activities (see my review of the armband device itself by searching for "GoWearFit" or clicking on 'See my reviews.')
Basically, it's awesome, and I use it a lot - as you can tell by other reviews it tells you in more or less real time how many calories you've burned. I use the 'trip' counter for lifting weights at the gym or even going shopping at the store - it really helps me narrow in on how many calories I'm using. Seeing the information as it happens helps motivate me on days I haven't quite met my calorie targets, and it beeps and blips according to my settings on how many steps or how much activity I want that day.
I'm not crazy about the look of the armband device - it's kind of kludgy and the armband itself isn't very flexible. I struggle with getting the end of it fastened and under the buckle. Also, I've only had it a few months and the edge of the band, the holder where the display screws in, is getting loose.
On top of that, I've had the display face itself fall out - repeatedly. The mechanism for seating the display into either the band or the 'clip' type device simply isn't very sturdy. The first few times I lucked out and had it fall down between the couch cushions or somewhere I could retrieve it, but this last weekend I wore it out on a hike and apparently the display is finally gone for good.
Why on earth they didn't include a latch or some other failsafe is beyond me. I've reordered the device, because I do use it quite a lot, but I'm either going to quit wearing it on the watchband and tuck it into my pocket, or I'm going to lard that sucker up with strapping tape. (Maybe one of those big old SwatchGuard devices Swatch used to make would work. Or even rubber bands?)
Here's hoping you have better luck with it.
Customer Review: Wish It Would Sync!!! Summary: 1 Stars
My GWF display device arrived yesterday, along with the armband (which I love). I charged the armband up for the recommended time, followed the instructions for syncing the device by pressing the Mode+View buttons then the armband's status button and... NOTHING.
I saw different instructions on the company support area that for first-time setup. So, following them, I pressed the status button on the armband and then the Mode+View buttons on the display device for four seconds and... NOTHING.
After reading a prior negative review based on the same problems, I ran around the house (burning calories, at least) turning off wireless devices, cell phones, etc. Then I tried both sync methods again and... NOTHING.
Lather, rinse, repeat a dozen or more times. Honestly, I probably burned up the most calories yesterday cussing out the dang thing.
I've sent an email to customer support, but since they don't work on the weekend I'll be waiting until tomorrow. Then I might just call the company rather than waiting for an email reply.
But, hey, if anyone knows HOW to get the thing to sync, please, please, please let me know. I'll be happy to edit/amend my one-star review if I can just get the thing to work!
UPDATE: Not only did I receive an email from the company's customer service on the very same day I sent in a request for help (which was a Sunday, btw), but they even shipped me a replacement display the very next day. Turns out my original display was indeed defective, and within moments after receipt of the replacement I was synced and ready to work out.
I am VERY pleased with this product, and thrilled with the company's customer service! (Wish Amazon would let me update this to a 4-star review.)
Customer Review: Nice, but is it worth the money? Summary: 3 Stars
So, I don't know about you guys, but I have a good 150lbs to lose. Now, I like the armband, and it's cool to see how many you've burned for the day whenever you want and whatnot, but after having this for a couple weeks I'm just asking myself... why bother?
The strap itself is uncomfortable and poorly designed, the clip-on is bulky and not at all convenient. Furthermore, after using the armband for a week or two, I know roughly how many calories I'm going to be burning in a day just based on how relatively active I am. I don't really need the display, especially since it's so easy to sync it once a day anyways (normally when I take it off to shower after a workout or before work in the morning to shower - keeps it charged and me up to date).
Now, the caveat here is that if you've got much less weight to lose, you might find this more helpful. When that extra 100 calories makes a big impact on your weight loss regimen, it might be worth knowing that you're 50 calories off your mark for the day... Otherwise, once you get used to estimating your daily activity and if small fluctuations like that don't matter, then there's not much point. I would've rather saved the $70 and gotten it later IF I decide I want it.
My one note that would make this display infinitely more helpful, would be if they would let you enter calorie intake data by the watch somehow. I don't particularly care the composition of what I eat (just eating healthy is sufficient), so I really just use the software to track my total calories. If I could enter that into the watch and keep a running tally for the day to compare to my calories burned, that would be infinitely more helpful... Just a thought.
Customer Review: Super Motivator! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the GoWear armband back in March. . .silly me, I forgot the Display Device. I immediately ordered it the day I received the armband. I love the motivation it gives me. I wore the armband for about a month before I started increasing my activity level so I could have a base level gauge. I then started to increase my physical activity (especially moderate) and then about 2-3 weeks later I started logging my food. To tell you the truth I lost my first Display Device about 3 1/2 weeks ago and traced where I had gone and, well, I ordered another one. I find it invaluable. I need to check throughout the day to see if I am getting my steps in and I began exercising at work during my lunch hour and I started getting my vigorous activity. The whole system has been beneficial for me. I am in my mid-50s and I am trying to lose weight. I am taking it slowly but the weight is steadily going down. I have lost 18 lbs since I started using it. What I find so extremely beneficial is that news had come out saying that older women needed to engage 60 minutes every day in moderate activity to maintain weight. This was right at the time I had gotten the armband and display device and I thought how useful just for that! This is the first time I can truly say that I will get down to my goal weight and be able to keep it off! I hate logging food in but that's a key component if you are wanting to lose weight. I look forward to GoWear starting to offer help tips for exercise, etc. By the way it even kept track of my vigorous activity on my bicycle!
Customer Review: Must have Accessory Summary: 5 Stars
I think this is a must have if you are going to be using the GoWear arm band.
Here are the reasons why:
1. While you are exercising you can set the trip counter and it will keep track of your steps and calories from that point forward.
2. You can test exercise equipment for accurate calories being burned. my experience says that most equipment adds an additional 15%+ than what you have actually burned.
3. Minute by minute updating. This is important, its like paying people to slap cookies out of your hand. Knowing how much your body burns through any part of the day is good info to have.
Cons:
1-cheesy watchband, I have a really nice watch that I am not using now. Although people point out my cheesy watch and once I tell them what it does they are convinced that they need it too.
2-about 2-3 times a day I have to re-sync the device. doesn't take long but in this day-in-age it should just work.
3- Did I mention it really has a cheesy watchband
4- they could have added a few more standard features on it like a stop watch, and the date.
I am very pleased with it overall, but if they come out with a chico watch for it, it will be time to trade up.
