Customer Reviews of Grossan Hydro PulseŽ Pulsatile Nasal & Sinus Irrigation SystemCustomer Review: Good product, effective for chronic sinus and allergy problems Summary: 4 Stars
I've had one of these for probably around 6 years. I do not use it every day but use it when my sinus problems flare up. It is relatively easy to use and it rinses my sinuses much better than a neti pot or lavage bottle. The prepackaged saline that comes along with this with the xylitol is fantastic. There is a switch on the handle to shut on and off the water flow, I can hear the pump straining when it is on and the switch has the water flow off, so I try to avoid switching the water flow off too much. I would think this is one of the reasons why I have gotten better life out of it than other reviewers have.
It needs to be cleaned out with a full fill of water running through the device after every use to keep from clogging with salt residue.
I use the nielmed bottle when I am on travel. For someone new to nasal irrigation I would recommend starting with a nielmed or similar lavage bottle with saline mix that include a buffer like sodium bicarbonate, not just salt, as a plain salt solution is irritating to most folks. The lavage bottle is similar to this device. The neti pot is not as wet as this with the feeling of breathing water (Overall I find it pleasant, but I could see some folks might not.)
Customer Review: Works well, but no panacea Summary: 4 Stars
I've had this thing for three or four years now and it's never given me any problem. I use it almost every day during the cold/flu season (i.e., during Minnesota's long winters).
It works well and is much more pleasant and effective to use than a Neti pot. The concept is very similar but imagine a higher-tech, easy to use Neti pot with a bit of pressure behind it, and without all the dribbling mess.
Like a Neti pot it won't cleanse your entire sinus cavity; that's asking for too much I'm afraid. But it does help cleanse out the front part of your sinuses in a way that simply blowing your nose cannot, and that a Neti pot won't do nearly as easily. The irrigator helps loosen some of the stubborn snot and boogers that you wish you could blow out, and thus it can help prevent sinusitis ... but only to a limited degree. It won't transform your flawed sinuses into perfect functioning. So therefore I give it four stars instead of five, because it ain't no nasal roto-rooter or sinus sucker, which is what we all want and probably will never get.
I'd add that the throat attachment does help when you've got gunk in your throat. Again it's no panacea but it does help and it's a bit better than gargling.
Customer Review: Great product - Highly impressed Summary: 5 Stars
I recently had sinus surgery. Doc gave me a "squirt bottle" cleaning system for sinus. What a joke, what a mess. Friend at work told me about these kind of machines. I was a little wary. Went out to Amazon looking.
Actually did not intend to order it. I clicked "one click order" without realizing it. Next day I checked my e-mail and realized what I had done. Decided to give it a shot. Glad I did.
I use it once in morning and once at night. It is scary what comes out. Even when I feel that I am clear, it washes out some nasty looking stuff. I can not see a down size of using this item. The idea of getting all that stuff out daily can only be beneficial.
I live in SC. Pollen is terrible right now. This machine is helping deal with the problem. Easy to use. Easy to clean. No complaints. You can find instructions on internet to make your own solution at home. Very cheap. Two parts pickling salt, one part baking soda. Then you can save the expensive "pre-made" packets that come with it to take on trips and stuff.
Worth every penny (so far). I have used it at least twice a day now for 60 days. Not a minutes problem. Good luck.
Customer Review: Repetitive Motor Failures Summary: 1 Stars
I have now had 2 of these nasal irrigators and both have terminally failed. The first one was used for about 3 months and was then stored for 5 months before needing it again. The motor would not turn on so I contacted Grossan and they replaced it under warranty, though getting that to pass took 3 months. The second unit was used for 2 months and then stored for about 6 months. When attempting to use it after storage the motor was again frozen. Both units had been thoroughly rinsed and flushed before their periods on nonuse. In that I'm mechanically inclined I taken both units apart to diagnose the problem. The internal motor drives a small variable stroke pump which can be easily disconnected from the drive motor. The pump can be removed from the motor and the motor can then be tested without the pump loading it. Checked the electrical connections and the switch action and all was fine. In both cases the motor had simply frozen up! It would seem that the grease in the motor bushings hardens during storage.
When these units work they are fine, but with a failure rate of 2 for 2, I couldn't recommend these to anyone.
Customer Review: My sinuses are thanking me Summary: 5 Stars
It all started with Oprah and Dr. Oz. I've been plagued with sinus issues all my life .. Dealing it with medication. Then about a month ago, bought a Neti Pot .. Well .. It was messy and didn't quite create a good seal with my nostril .. so, I upgraded to the stainless steel Neti Pot .. Much better, but It would only trickle out my left nostril, so I would be there for 10 minutes Neti Potting. I was searching for something else and it led me the the Grossan's Hydro Pulse .. Just came 3 days ago. I'm very pleased .. I've read other comments on Amazon, where people thought it was made cheaply and it leaked. I have not, nor do I have those concerns. I believe the unit is nicely manufactured and it's a pleasure to use (with no mess). I use only distilled water (There is a warning that using Hard water would void the warranty) and I run through a cycle of fresh water once I'm finished (There is a warning that long term salt exposure would void the warranty). I doubt I would order their saline powder .. A lot cheaper just using a no additive salt .. 1 tsp for the 500ml tank .. which I use per session.
