Verilux Natural Spectrum HappyLite Mini Ultra, Silver
I use a larger scale version of this light by Verilux. I sent my sister this desktop version and she is already getting good results. If you have SAD - this light definitely works as good as an antidepressant and it also enhances the effect of your antidepressant if you have a chemical imbalance like I do.
Only the summer sunlight helps SAD - so this light is great for the other 3 seasons.

It's simple and it's small enough for your desktop. I bought one and now 5 of my office mates have it too. In grey Seattle it makes the difference between dragging your tired butt home at the end of the day and having enough energy to actually have a life after work. Bottom line: it works. I've used this for about 2 and a half months, during the winter. It almost instantly improved my mood, and after a while people have started to comment positively on my attitude and mood. Before, I couldn't stand going to work, and wanted to climb in the bed and hibernate. But now, when I get in the office, I turn on my lamp and it's like my morning coffee. I'm ready to go, I can focus, and am more productive.
It is a must-have for people who suffer from seasonal depression.

With the days getting shorter, I have been using this lamp at work. I place it behind my computer screen. I have been positively influenced by the light, because I can keep on working with high energy even when it's gray or dark outside. I recommend this product to anyone who gets affected by the lack of light in the winter or who works inside a lot. I still suggest to keep on trying to get outside on sunny days anyway even for a short walk around the block. I purchased this item thinking it was a natural light but was disappointed when a lighting specialist told me the item holds an expensive florescent light bulb inside. I cannot use florescent lighting as it irritates my eyes. Disappointed. I purchased two of them and wanted to return one but the store told me they would charge for their shipping original shipment cost plus 20% restocking fee plus my shipping back to them - would cost as much as the product itself. Again, Disappointed.
