Customer Review: Looks great but does not work

Form/Finish: I bought the scale to use in a contemporary bathroom largely based on it looks. From the pictures the scale looked sleek with a metallic finish. In reality the finish of the non-glass parts is plastic. Still the scale does look nice, modern and sleek in person - especially with its large glass top and digital readout.
Function: The operation of the scale is worth noting. Before weighing, the user is supposed to tap the glass gently. This helps initialize the scale. After a couple seconds the digital display will read "0". Now the scale is ready for the user to actually step on it to be weighed. When purchased new, there is a sticker placed prominently on the bottom right corner of the glass surface that explains the above. The weight is displayed on the digital readout a couple seconds after the user has stood still on the scale. In my experience, the scale seemed to be accurate in its reading.
Durability: This scale stopped working after just 8 weeks in my possession after I bought it new. (The way it failed for me is documented in the next paragraph) I had used it all of 6-7 times during that period. I've tried to reset it - including by removing/replacing the battery. That hasn't helped.
How it failed: I believe the problem might have been one of the family members who forgot about/ignored the instructions on the sticker mentioned above and just got on the scale without "initializing" it. The scale then displayed an "E" for error. Immediately after that, I tried to reset it by following instructions i.e. tapping the glass to initialize the scale. When I did that the scale did clear the "E" to show "0". However, stepping on the scale ultimately resulted in a "E". Since then no amount of resetting it has helped. I tried pulling out the battery and putting it back etc.
I think a product that cannot deal with this type of user error is fundamentally flawed. I cannot recommend this product.
