Customer Review: High-Quality Scale But Buyer Beware

I took a chance on this scale because it was priced so unbelievably low. After reading the most negative review, I decided that could not happen to me. Well, it did. My scale was an obvious return. The instruction booklet and the conversion chart had smudges and certain items showed they were disassembled. In hindsight, I should not have accepted the box when I saw it had tape on it. A screw and nut fell out of the bag that held the base. The base, according to the instruction book, was supposed to be completely assembled upon arrival. It would be nearly impossible for anyone to put the base together if it came unassembled. My base arrived broken. It appears the top part is OK. Fortunately for me I called the manufacturer who agreed to send a new base. I am now waiting for the new base to arrive. I believe the scale will be great once assembled and it looks exactly like the one at my doctor's office. I really hope the new base solves my problems in I won't know if anything else is wrong until I assemble the scale. I am disappointed with this particular purchase although I like the model I chose. One thing I do not agree with is the negative opinion that it is bulky. Of course it is. That is a plus. It's supposed to be heavy duty, professional. If you prefer, there is another model that comes with wheels for about $20 more.Customer Review: An Excellent Scale!

After tiring of hearing me complain about how I could step on our digital scale one time after the next and never get the same reading twice, my wife bought me the Health o Meter Physician Balance Beam Scale as a Christmas present. I am very glad she did! The scale, with its heavy gauge steel base and platform, is just like the one you'd find in your doctor's office and is just as accurate.
Being a person with ten thumbs when it comes to products requiring assembly, I was a bit intimidated when I saw the large box in which the scale came. However, my concern was unwarranted as the product was quite easy and fast to assemble as long you follow the simple directions for positioning the pieces. Further, once assembled my days of complaints were over, and I am still singing the praises of this scale that provides consistently accurately measures up to 450 pounds in 0.25-pound increments. Beyond its professional accuracy in terms of measuring weight, it also provides accurate height measurements up to 78 inches Unfortunately, however, it appears that I have shrunk a half-inch since I last measured my height many years ago.
Amazon's price for this scale is a pretty good one, and while it is not an inexpensive item, it is one from which you'll definitely get your money's worth. Highly recommended!

I purchased this scale after a series of run-ins with digital scales. My experience shows in my review's title:
Accurate: the scale gives readings down to 1/5 (.2) of a pound, enough resolution for my needs. It weighs 50 pound bags of horse feed at 50 pounds. It weighs me at the same value if I step on and off and on again: none of the variable readings of my digital scale, and so no averaging. Finally, it is identical to the reading of the scale at my doctor's office.
Sturdy: all parts are well made of durable materials. When assembled, it is solid and quiet. It sits stable on the floor with no wobble.
Reliable: I've used it regularly since I bought it and it operates without a hitch. As a mechanical scale, I don't need to worry about batteries or power. As a non-digital scale, I don't need to worry about the software going haywire, or about the system being affected by the moisture in a bathroom.
Some nifty features:
-- easy to switch between lbs and kg measurements: just flip the two bars with the markings on them.
-- easy to calibrate with a screwdriver.
-- easy to assemble with a screwdriver and a wrench.
Overall a great product for an important use. Buy it!

I was a bit concerned about the very few reviews that talked about getting their scales in damaged packages. Also, some folks talked about the scale being hard to put together. All I can say is that my experience was excellent. The scale arrived very quickly, so there was no problem there. The box was in good condition, and I certainly didn't feel like it was something that had been refurbished, etc. Seems brand new and was in great condition.
Putting it together was simple, so there isn't a whole lot of need for extra instructions. I'm quite sure what some folks were complaining about, but I guess maybe for some it did not seem as intuitive. However, you do need a spot or kitchen table where you can lay down the top part. All that has to be done then is a little hook down the center (from the top part) is hooked into a small circle on the base. Then four screws need to be bolted. Really, it's quite simple.
And from what I can tell, it is accurate. It made us a pound lighter than the digital scale makes us, and that's a Health---meter too. But, the digital scale before that made us five pounds lighter--it's a missed scale.
All in all, great product. I feel like I'm actually getting an accurate reading now.

This is NOT the same product as in your doctors office. It just looks like it.
Mine arrived broken.
Not due to shipping, it left the factory broken.
It was put in the box, at the factory, broken, there is no question.
Only choice available is to send it back to the manufacturer at my expense.
No parts available.
No service available.
No pictures of how to repack or repacking instructions available.
Could not get it back in the box well enough to meet the shipping store's "packed properly" requirement.
Very large box, impossible to reassemble without photos or instructions.
Cost of having the shipping store box it and ship it greater than cost of the product.
Went straight to the trash, never used.
Wasted a lot of money for this piece of junk.
My wife wouldn't even let me donate it to the local thrift store, she said; "you wouldn't want to foist that piece of trash on some unsuspecting person."
I'm not sure what the people who wax positively about quality of this Health-O-Meter product are comparing it to, but this is the poorest quality manufactured product I have ever seen. Do not buy. Do not use.
