The product is excellent! The manufacturer's support is positively first-rate and that's why we wanted to write this review. The first unit arrived with a defect, maybe from shipping or maybe a fault from the factory. We called the number in the manual and after briefly working with their support people they determined they would replace the unit free of charge. The new repacement was shipped so fast it seemed that we had hardly hung up the phone (actually it was here next day by Fed-X). No shipping charges either way for us - they took care of it all. The scale itself is quite accurate since it is a gravity balance with no springs or electronics to go out of calibration. It is very consistant and weighs to about a quarter-pound accuracy. Easy to use and has a nice height-measure and comes with extra counter weights so it will weigh up around 500 lbs (thankfully we don't need that in our family but........). If every company cared like these people I think our economy would be a lot better off! Finally we have a scale that we can depend on while fighting the battle of the bulge.

Having an accurate measuring device in the convenience of my home is priceless. Being able to rely on what my scale is telling me is a tremendous relief. This scale is equivalent to what you would find in a gym or the physician's office. The unit is strong and sturdy.
When compared to some of the flashy digital models out there with price tags of $99 and up, the price was comparable. And with free shipping saving around $35! It was a no-brainer for me. This equipment won't give false readings because the batteries are low and it won't break.
Installation was a snap. I recommend using your own screwdriver/socket set as the tool they ship with the unit is pretty clumsy. Zeroing the scale literally takes 15 seconds.
Two questions you should ask before you buy this balance is do you have the space for it and do you want a big bulky balance? Keep in mind it requires a flat, hard surface (like tile or hardwood).
It actually doesn't take up that much more floor space than a fancy dial scale. It is just tall.

The scale is super accurate. It will be nice to know my actual weight as opposed to "about" how much I weigh by stepping on and off of my old scale 5 or 6 times.
The height bar on mine is steel (arrived today 8/22/2008), so maybe all of the new ones will be steel.
One problem mine did have is that the top cap on the height bar was broken off, which made the height bar unusable (the bar assembly would just slide out of the rail.) The cap was put on with rivets that must have snapped in shipment, as the part was loose in the box. I was able to cut down some small bolts to reattach the cap and we are all good now, but this could have been a problem for someone who would not be willing or able to do a repair like that and really wanted the height function. I would assume this was an isolated problem unless more people are having it in the future.
Even with that I still give the scale a 5, as the scale is a great value and I would have taken it with no height bar at all anyway.

Very dis-appointed. I can't tell you whether the product even works because the first scale that came in had a manufacturer defect in that the balance beam was off center rendering the whole unit worthless. The second order came in just yesterday and the entire balance beam unit was completely sheered off of the base. After closer examination I realized that it was all due to cheap manufacturing, improper packing, and yes probably the way UPS handles the items during shipping. In this case 2 strikes and you are out. I am asking for a full refund, also realizing that it is not really Amazon's fault, but it should be known that they should really not deal with that particular Manufacturer any more. This caused some major inconvenience to a pretty good way of shopping. Other Items I have purchased from Amazon were fine! I hope Amazon takes heed to this message!Customer Review: Accurate and Easy

This scale was delivered via FedEx to Montana without problem. Packaging was more than adequate for shipping with the scale nested in firm molded styrofoam and the box wrapped in plastic bands. Assembly was four nuts and attaching a cable to a hook taking perhaps ten minutes. Scale was off balance by half a pound but is quickly adjusted with a standard screw driver. I tested it using known weights and found it to accurate +/- a quarter pound at five, ten, fifteen and twenty pounds. One-quarter pound is the scale's smallest unit of measure and for measuring body weight this is plenty accurate. After several weeks of use it has not needed any more adjustment. This scale must be used on a hard flat surface - carpet won't work - since any change in angle of base will upset the balance beam. This is a great scale for the money and I highly recommend it.
