Customer Reviews of Health o Meter SAB602-05 Dial Scale, Black with Silver AccentCustomer Review: The older it gets, the less accurate it becomes Summary: 3 Stars
Edited on 12/22/10.
I was tired of buying expensive digital scales where you have to replace the entire scale every 4 to 5 years due to non-replaceable batteries, so I went back to the old-fashioned analog scale. This scale is made by Sunbeam, BTW, not Health-O-Meter like it says here. The footprint is large on this scale, my digital scale was made smaller than this and I was constantly losing my balance on it.
PROS: Large, easy to keep your balance on. No batteries to wear out. Inexpensive.
CONS: I had to reset the dial once a week when it was new. Now that I've owned this about 6 months, I have to reset it more often, almost daily; if I don't I can get 5 different weights in 5 tries. More cheaply made than scales from 20 years ago.
I will probably replace this with an EatSmart digital scale, since those have replaceable batteries. I'm tired of the inaccuracy of this scale.
Customer Review: Not consistant at all Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this because my 10 year old digital scale was starting to fluctuate erratically up to 8 pounds (yes I put in new batteries). I figured with the 'ol fashion type scale I would get a more consistant reading. After using it for more than 2 weeks I have found it to be just about as bad as the digital scale. I zero out the needle and then get on the scale and take the reading. I then get off the scale and without moving it, or touching it, I step back onto this scale and look to see that I have gained 4 pounds! I tried this same scenario multiple times over a period of more than one week. I could not get the same reading more than twice in a row! I can understand a difference of + or - 1 pound but 4? Guess I'll have to invest in something with a little more quality....
Customer Review: Looks nice but poor quality...feels cheap, not accurate. Summary: 1 Stars
I just wanted a basic inexpensive and accurate scale, nothing fancy, and although the reviews were mostly mediocre I liked the way it looked and bought it anyway. When it arrived I found the quality to be much lower than what I expected...the platform was a hard plastic that did not feel sturdy when I stepped onto it; it felt very cheap, as if it were going to break. The scale was accurate for the first few days, but on about the 5th day my weight was about 20 lbs. off. I am dieting, but there's no way I could have lost 20 lbs. in less than a week. It's a good looking scale, but it feels cheap, not sturdy and not well made. I ended up buying a scale twice the price of this one; it's been about two weeks, and so far so good.
Customer Review: i got what i wanted - a cheap scale w/ no batteries Summary: 4 Stars
I wanted a cheap scale that did not require any batteries - this fit the bill perfectly.
Having had metal and glass scales in the past, I was glad to have a black plastic scale in my damp bathroom as to prevent any rust issues. I hate plastic and would prefer metal or glass, but have had bad luck.
I can't vouch for the accuracy of the scale, but it's close enough for me. I tried weighing various things - a bag of flour, 1 L of sparkling water, a pumpkin and everything seemed to be accurate.
One small critique: the lines between #'s are hard to see so I have to bend down to see the #'s when I weigh myself -- this might be a problem if you have bad eyesight or back problems.
Customer Review: Cheap for a reason Summary: 1 Stars
I didn't keep it long, so I can't give a crazy detailed report. When I got it out of the box, one corner of the cheap plastic cover was completely shattered. Bits of plastic all over, and a big crack through the plate. I braved it long enough to do a few test weigh ins, but it was constantly different. Had to be reset to zero constantly, after each use. While it's nice to reset to zero, I'd really rather not do it EVERY time. It's cheap for a reason, save a few extra bucks and go get a more solid scale, this one isn't worth the bother.
