Customer Review: blissful silence...

I live in Uganda, in east Africa. Zoning laws? Say WHAT? You can find an all-night bar opening just down the road from your home (yes, there's one just 4 houses down). It's a rare hotel that's quiet--and I travel a lot. Thin walls, noisy bar, trucks, cars, call to prayer at 5 am, and motorcycles zipping past at all hours. Hotel life used to be, to put it mildly, quite annoying.
Ah, that was before my little blue Hearos. I would pay the price of a full pack for a single pair. There are other earplugs out there, but none like Hearos X-treme. Very soft and comfy. They roll up small and expand slowly, so you have plenty of time to get them in your ears. In the 30 seconds that they take to expand, sounds fade, then disappear altogether. I'm enveloped in a cocoon of blissful silence. Just knowing all of that noise is out there and can't touch me makes me sleep all the better.
Some other nice features...if you are cheap like me or don't want to re-order, you can wash them in rubbing alcohol or methylated spirits, squeeze them out in a dry washcloth, and they're as good as new after a few hours to dry out. I've yet to wear out a pair.
Have tiny ears? So does my wife. We just got some good scissors and pruned them down to size for her. And, they won't tear. I've put some other earplugs a bit deep in my ear, and when grabbing a corner to pull them out, they would break off. Not the Hearos Xtremes.
On the downside--no earplug can stop an ultra-low, ultra-loud sub-woofer. Thankfully, the one from the bar down the road booms, but not excessively at those frequencies. But I have had the experience coming from a hotel bar--and at that point the only thing to do is ask them politely to turn it down.
This is one of the cheapest ways to dramatically improve your life if you live or travel to noisy places, or live in one. I keep a pair permanently in my travel bag, and another on my bedside table. Sweet dreams!

Pros: Blocked out sound well, but not better than the others
Cons: Was the least comfortable of the three because they exerted the most pressure on my ear canals.
Caveat: I have small ear canals.

I am an early bird. My housemate is not. She stays up till the wee hours of the early morning, watching TV, while I'm desperately trying to sleep before my workday comes too soon. The TV is on the other side of the wall where my bed is- so you can imagine the fights we got into before I discovered these things! And we live in an apartment, so not exactly the thickest walls ever. Any sound not only keeps me awake but irritates me to the point where I feel my blood pressure rising. Now she can watch TV to her heart's content & I can enjoy(?) my early to bed, early to rise lifestyle.
I have no clue how I survived without these so long. I put them in & a minute later, they've expanded in the ear to block out virtually all sound. You may or may not sleep through an alarm clock w/ these- I don't, but then I keep my alarm on the moderately loud side. I can always tell when the ear plugs need to be changed (after a week or so) because they don't collapse much between the fingers to go in the ear. Usage hasn't caused me ear infections or anything like that, so I think they're harmless enough (certainly better than not getting enough sleep). Now, I don't have kids, so no one really ever needs me in the middle of the night. Be aware these will block out a lot of telephones, some alarms & anyone who's got a soft or moderate voice. If you need to be aware of softer sounds, a baby crying or live in an area where being virtually deaf at night isn't particularly safe- I don't think these would be a good fit.

In my quest to completely block out noise while I sleep, I have purchased and worn Flents Quiet! Please, Howard Leight MAX, SilentEar (in multiple sizes) and Hearos Ultimate Softness.
Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, can top Hearos Ultimate Softness Extremes. The softness is perfect. The fit is perfect. The inner ear sealing is perfect. Every time I remove these plugs from my ears in the morning, I am amazed to hear my roommate's music permeating through my walls. With the Ultimate Softness Extremes in my ears, I can't even tell anyone is listening to music. It's a night/day difference. It's out of this world. I would have to wear my noise-blocking IEMs and listen to music at decent volume to get the same results. That's not something I can do very well while I'm asleep.
Also, the build quality is amazing. Weird to say that about a pair of ear plugs, but the fact is you can use these things over and over again without issue - even more so than you can with SilentEar plugs (which are actually DESIGNED to be reused, but utterly fail in every respect).
And please don't let the word "Extreme" put you off. These are basically the same thing as normal Hearos Ultimate Softness plugs. Just far more effective.

I bought these earplugs when I was planning a family/friend outing to a local shooting range. I wanted to get enough ear protection for everyone at a decent price that would be easy to use and comfortable. Looking at reviews I settled on these Hearos earplugs.
I recently came back from that trip and I'm VERY impressed with these. The range was indoors and it was nearly full with shooters, but even in such an environment with pistols and rifles going off rather regularly these earplugs did an excellent job subduing the noise to a comfortable level. There was no shock, no pain, and no ringing whatsoever! These were so good that we (my group) had to talk directly into each others' ears and be very loud in order to talk to each other. My issued earplugs in the Army do a worse job than these!
These earplugs were very comfortable, easy to apply, and stayed in without any need for readjustment. I was very happy with my purchase and I still have plenty left over for future use. I would definitely recommend these for anyone looking for high quantity, cheap, comfortable, and very effective earplugs, no matter what the purpose.
