Hennalucent is an excellent alternative to tradition hair color, and probably better for your hair too. It lasts long enough for my roots to grow out and tints grays so it looks like highlights. This is how it works: first, go to the dollar store and buy a package of shower caps and a bottle of conditioner. Wash your hair and leave it wet. Mix the powder with hot water to the consistency of pancake batter. I wear latex gloves and apply it in sections with a coloring brush, but you can use your hands just as well. Put on a shower cap and wait for about half an hour then get in the shower to rinse. It's going to feel very gritty! This is where the conditioner comes in - pour it on thick and work it though. After you rinse it, do it again. If you still feel gritty, do it again, but that's usually enough for me. Your hair will be incredibly shiny but it will smell a bit the first couple of days, not a chemical smell, just sort of weird. Note: I have medium brown hair and the earth brown was too dark. I mix it with a little sunset glo and blush blond. The great thing about this is you can play around with mixing colors until you find the right shade. Just remember that if you mix two packages of powder, you only need to use half of it and save the other half (dry) for next time.
