Customer Review: Excellent All-Purpose Massager But It Can Pinch

I bought this unit when I was having a flare up of Sciatica, which tends to affect the lower back and upper thigh rather severely. I found this system, although difficult to hold onto for self-use did alleviate the intensity of the severe pain, especially with the heat setting on. Later I found other uses for it such as for stiff necks, shoulders and calves. It was easier to use on myself in those places and I am quite please overall with the purchase. Of course it does seem to be most effective when someone else handles the unit especially when you are sore or stiff.
Issues:
1]-I did have to be careful not to push it[the unit] against bare skin because it did grab me frequently and painfully without warning if I did. Solution, wear a garment over the area you plan on messaging.
2]-It comes with 3 sets of alternative heads which are easily lost if you don't keep track of them because there is no carrying case for them. I suggest keeping them where you plan on using them and you probably won't lose them.
3]-The wire tends to get tangled very easily especially with repeated use. I found I needed to unplug the system between uses and the wire seemed to naturally untangle. Of course if you are going to use it the same day or sooner you will have to untangle the wire manually which is a bit of a nusiance especially if you have a dire need to use the unit.
4]-I tried [1x] to use the unit in my car by plugging it into a power inverter and the system simply stopped working. Fortunately it happened in the Target parking lot where I had just bought it so I returned it and they simply gave me another one. Obviously using a power inverter for "bring it along" convenience is not as good an idea as I thought.
OVERALL:
Although it is not perfect, all in all I have found it to be a very useful, durable and reasonably priced system that I have run for several hundred hours over the past 3 years. In that time I have tried several other brands and types that just did not work well or just broke after very little use.

My purchase today will be the third one of this model I have had. I broke the first one by accident by lowering my adjustable bed onto it. The second one, I had to repair the broken cord at the unit's handle.
I have an injured back in two places, so first thing in the morning I sit on the edge of the bed and vibrate my back until I get loosened up a bit. I also use it while lying down, holding onto the cord and letting the weight of the unit's head rest on various areas of my back. This unit's versatility and ease of use really works for me. I prefer no heat. The thing I like best about it is that the contour of the whole unit is such that it doesn't easily snag on t-shirts or blankets: at least on this model. I have tried other vibrators shaped similar to this one, but to no avail, as all others that I have tried catch or rub on clothing. I use the unit on the lowest speed, which allows for a certain rhythm, to let the head bounce off my back, giving me added percussion; however, the unit will actually vibrate very rapidly at high speed.
I began purchasing this model years ago and paid $60 at that time, and today I will pay less than half of that. I'm very happy to find that Amazon is selling this exact model. I would highly recommend it for self-massage on your own back, as it is shaped such as to allow holding onto the top of the handle while dropping the unit's head over your shoulder and down onto your back. The only downside is that, although the manufacturer has done a fine job of protecting the cord at the handle, eventually the cord will break with constant flexing over a long period of time. I use mine approximately 3 different sessions during each day, and it has lasted me about three years before needing to work on the cord.
Remember, this is just the opinion of a long-time user of this model. It may not work for you, but it sure has done a good job for me over the years.

i'm a professional massage therapist, so i've tried lots of other products but none compare in any way to the homedics variable-speed percussion massager - it truly is a "must have" (not only because of it's inexpensive price) but because it's so effective and so easy to use! the percussive knobs are perfectly placed - not too close together nor too far apart, and they vibrate at just the right pace for creating maximum relief- not too hard and not too fast...but if you want to change it up, it comes with 3 different knob covers (to make them firmer or softer) and has 10 different variations of speed (gentler for sensivtive areas and stronger for those pesky places!)...but what i really love the most about it - is how well-weighted it is, and how easy it is to adjust the speed settings "while you're using it" plus, it's easy to handle, fits along the side of my neck just as well as it does between my shoulder blades or along my IT band...and best of all - it really works! so if you want something that will "melt away" your pain, and is easy to use and inexpensive too...then you absolutely "must" have this! it will serve you well, and you won't want to use any other massage tools ever again!Customer Review: The Answer

My husband has had a sore neck for forty years and he has tried every thing short of surgery to get relief. He has been on medication, had injections, massage, chiropractor treatmensts and on and on. This little magic machine has given him more relief in the past few months than any other thing he has ever done.
Every night I give him a massage using the hardest knobs and the highest setting. He is absolutely limp when I finish massaging his shoulders and neck and feels totally relaxed. I think that the improved blood flow caused by the hard massage is the secret. Better circulation warms the muscles and lets them release all those toxins that build up. We are even ordering a massage chair for him so that he can really get comfortable and I can sit behind him and do his massage. Wish we had discovered this years ago.
The HoMedics PA-100 Therapist Select Percussion Massager, Variable Speed is easy to use on another person. I can see that it would be hard to use on your own back because it is fairly heavy. But the weight is not a problem for the person doing the massage. The long handle allows you to cover large areas easily.

I just received this a few days ago and already I'm very *very* IMPRESSED!!I often have lower back pain and have to go to the chiropractor. And when I do, following the adjustment he uses a very heavy feeling massager (I haven't SEEN it) on me to relax everything again, and it feels SO GREAT! Feels just like tiny hammers beating on you at a super high speed. I asked him where I could buy one like that and he turned me on to a company that sells massagers that feel identical to this for [a large sum of money]!!
When I saw this massager listed here on Amazon, I wasn't sure it was like my doctor uses. But after receiving it and using it, I can tell you it feels IDENTICAL to the machine that my chiropractor paid for[a large sum of money]!!<!! So YOU figure out if this is a good deal or not! It SHOULD be more than OBVIOUS if you've been reading this.
Anyone wanting to complain about the weight of this should use their brain to figure out if you need a really good massage, then you need either someone with lots of strength OR a massager with strength! And how does a massager become strong?? One factor is to make it HEAVY! I MEAN "DUH"!!! :)
