Customer Reviews of HoMedics SS-2000 Sound Spa Relaxation Sound Machine with 6 Nature Sounds, SilverCustomer Review: It's ok, sort of. Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this as a gift, tested it out first- Thank goodness. I like the rain and ocean sounds especially. My only issues were that it did not come with a thunderstorm option. My main issue was that there was a buzzing sound when set low volume, it would get drowned out if you put it higher but if that's the case, it would be far too loud to use at bedtime. On that same note the volume is really great quality, it goes pretty loud.
It has a timer but also comes with the option to play continuously. It's a nice little machine if you like nothing more than the few decent sounds. If there was no other option I would have kept it but I sent it back due to the buzzing, may be defective.
Overall, I'd recommend it, despite the buzzing, it's a nice little inexpensive sound machine to have.
Customer Review: Great Little Machine Summary: 4 Stars
We are actually on our second machine. I have an adult daughter with an acquired brain injury who was having trouble sleeping. I didn't want to spend a lot of money in case it didn't work for her. As it turns out she has to have it on every night. There are not many noise choices but it doesn't matter because she always wants the same one. Our favorite is the rain. Another good thing about this machine is that it helps to drown out other sounds that may wake her up. I also got one for my daughter who just had a baby. The hospital had this very same machine in the nursery! They weren't using the heartbeat and I wouldn't recommend it as it was more creepy than soothing. We have dropped this machine many many times over the two years we had it and finally had to get another one. Not bad for the price!
Customer Review: Pretty good Summary: 4 Stars
This thing is great for the price. I really just wanted a simple machine that would make some noise so I wouldn't have to listen to the traffic outside my bedroom window all night and didn't want to pay anywhere near $50 (most other ones I looked at were around that price). It is simple, and can run on batteries or with the plug. You can leave it on all night or set the timer for up to 45 minutes. The only issue I have with this is about half of the sounds I would never use - but it's just my personal preference. Some of them are a little annoying. I LOVE the rain one though, and if that was the only option I'd still be happy. I'm taking off a star because I just think most people wont like a few of the sounds, however if there is even just one sound that you like, this machine is worth it for $15.
Customer Review: For a good night's sleep Summary: 5 Stars
My wife often stays up later than I do to watch TV, and even with the bedroom door closed, I can sometimes still hear it. This sound machine provides the perfect white noise to mask any stray sounds from outside the bedroom. As others have noted, the Waterfall setting is the best for sleeping, since it is really just white noise. The Rainstorm setting is nice, but the plops of rain randomly dripping from the roof kept waking me up. The other sounds (other than the creepy heartbeat)are nice for ambient background, but for me would not be conducive to sleep. My wife and I found the Ocean setting spiced up our love life. The auto-off features are handy and easy to use, and the volume control allows fine tuning. Frankly, I don't know how I lived without this machine. It is terrific.
Customer Review: Worst machine I've ever had to deal with Summary: 1 Stars
This is one of the biggest pieces of junk. Worked fine for a couple of months, then would start randomly cutting out. I'm someone that's grown up with sound machines helping get to sleep and stay asleep, so I've gotten to the point that if everything goes quiet in my room I will immediately wake up. This machine has cut out more and more over the last year and now I can't even get it to connect to the power cord anymore so I have to keep batteries in it at all times. I'll turn it on and turn the knob for the volume, something that should be a relatively easy task, and it will cut in and out, in and out. And a lot of the time it won't even come on at all, even if I've just replaced the batteries. It's awful. Spend some more money on a machine that actually works. You'll be glad you did.
