Customer Review: Nice Sounds, Low Quality

I have used white noise generators for many years. I wanted a light-weight battery operated one for foreign travel and camping where electrical power is not readily available. For this purpose the unit works moderately well. The only useful sound for me is the waterfalls sound. This is the only frequency that will partially drown out low frequency sounds like snoring. Other sounds are cute but not too useful and, in fact, distracting.
I have found the same defect as other reviewers. The on/off/volume switch is of poor quality. It malfunctioned early on. The unit will still work but one has to "exercise" the knob to get it to work. Sometimes the unit simply shuts off by itself in the middle of the night. Hometics needs to spend more then $0.25 on the switch.

My wife and I bought this noise maker shortly after we were married. It worked alright for a few weeks, and then the sound started to die without warning, and with no change in the power/controls. We tried to live with it, but it just continued to get worse. We then returned it to where we bought it (BB&B) and they very nicely replaced it for us. TRY NUMBER TWO! The same thing happened after about a month. Another trip again to the nice people of BB&B and a third... Same result. At this point we have it in our baby's room to help him sleep with house noise, but instead he just wakes up when it dies out. VERY angering.
So this product is a definite NO. It is cheaply made and will die on you without any reason and without abuse being suffered to the unit.

I first purchased this model while visiting my Mom and forgot to bring a sound machine for white noise to help my infant sleep better. At first it was great, you could turn it on and it stayed on alnight without timing out. But by the middle of the week it would simply stop working ramdomly. To get it working again, all you have to do is pat/hit it a couple of times. I left it at my Mother's house so I would not have to worry about bring a sound machine on future visits. About a year later the sound machine at home fell off a dresser and needed to be replaced. This was the only model I could find. I purchased this model again and hoped for the best. This new sound machine within a week started doing the same thing as the first one. Poor, poor, poor quailty.Customer Review: The best thing, this side of a gun, for dealing with noisy neighbors.

I actually bought this little treasure as a reward for a cooperative neighbor for unplugging his Bose Reverb speakers, which he would leave on all night as a wall of sound. Needless to say, he almost drove me off my 25th floor terrace. The HoMedic won't totally cut out Manhattan Street noise, but the rain or sea sounds will smooth over the rough edges and lull you to sleep. I had previously opened a much more high end version of a sound machine from Sharper Image. It had more choices than you'd need to do sound effects for a production of "King Lear" but stopped working in just over twelve months. For three times the price of the HoMedic, I might add! I've had my HoMedic Sound Spa for over three years and it's still going strong. Love it. Love the company.Customer Review: Get what you pay for

My girlfriend got me hooked on hearing ocean sounds when we went to bed for the past three years. She went away to law school 3 hours away from me, so I couldn't fall asleep on my own anymore, so I decided to pick up one of these. Its alright, for $20 I'm not complaining, but then again I wasn't expecting anything amazing. I pretty much use it only for the ocean sounds. The thing that annoys me is with the ocean sound setting, there are seagull noises as well and these annoy me sooo much. My girlfriend's sound machine was just waves on the beach, I wish it was like heres, the bird sounds mixed in with this one is soo annoying. The rainfall is nice, I like that it doesn't have any thunder. Everything else is meh.
