Customer Reviews of HoMedics SS-2000 Sound Spa Relaxation Sound Machine with 6 Nature Sounds, SilverCustomer Review: Absolutely LOVE it! best of all options! Summary: 5 Stars
I spent WAY too much time research these little machines (as you are probably doing now) to use as white noise for our baby, and this one is perfect. We have had it for about a year and have never had a problem. It is very lightweight, so we throw it in the diaper bag to go to the babysitter's house as well. As for the sounds, there is a loop, but the baby is certainly not going to notice, so I wouldn't worry about it :o) Plus, I usually stick with the waterfall setting, which is just a constant staticy sound, so you don't notice any loop. SOUND QUALITY - it can get very loud if you want it to - I usually run it about 1/2 to 2/3 it's potential. Also, it does run on batteries as well so you can use it even if you can't find an outlet or need it in the car on a long trip. Overall, I say save your money and get this basic little sound machine that works great!
Customer Review: HoMedics SS-2000 sound spa Summary: 5 Stars
This is my severalth soundmachine I have purchased over that last 10 years from HoMedics. This is the basic model, adjustable volume, no clock etc. But you can turn it up pretty loud to drown out other noises & have a good nights sleep. Good for sleeping babies too. I have never used the timer feature, we keep ours on all night. I also like the fact that its a basic model so it travels well if you travel & cannot sleep w/out it. If you really listen you can hear the loop of the sound but it doesnt bother me, I mean I dont listen in anticiaption for it. It is better than the white noise from a fan because you can turn up the volume & travels w/ you, and wont dry your eyes out like a fan & not too breezy in the winter. I paid extra shipping last time to get mine here quicker because I found it very hard to sleep w/ out it when my last one finally quit.
Customer Review: Great way to fall asleep Summary: 4 Stars
We have long preferred to have a little noise when we fall asleep, to mask out the neighborhood noises. Sometimes we run a fan, and sometimes we use the white noise on our Timex NatureSounds clock radio. We are planning a trip overseas, and don't have any idea what our sleeping accomodations will be, so we wanted something that we could take along and run on batteries. Turns out that we are now using it all the time! We vary between two or three sounds, and they are pleasant to listen to. There are a couple of minor gripes. The rain sound has some "close up" dripping that makes it too easy to identify the loop, and on the summer night track, the crickets sound too real. Seriously -- I wake up in the night and think we left a window open. Can you fault something for being too good? Hmm... Anyway, I hope it holds up well because we really like it.
Customer Review: Volume is perfect Summary: 4 Stars
I'm sure volume is a personal preference, but I'm shocked by the reviews that say this sound machine is "too quiet." If you turned it up much louder you would wake someone up! Yes, it's cheap and the sound quality isn't perfect, but if you're looking for a small, inexpensive sound machine to mask noises and lull you to sleep, this is a good choice. It's also the perfect size for travel. I debated on buying it due to reviews about volume and the fact that it has no "white noise" setting, but I found the volume issue to be untrue and the "waterfall" setting is pretty close to white noise. You get what you pay for! Perhaps the volume issue has to do with a defective machine because it does sound like people have had problems with them. So far so good for me. Get it at your local Wal-mart so you can return it with ease if you're worried about problems.
Customer Review: Good while it lasts Summary: 3 Stars
I've had this item for about a year now. I purchased it at a walmart as a cheap solution to my dogs adjusting to the noise that comes with apartment life. I leave it on while I'm away during the day and sometimes at night in order to cancel out some of the noise of people passing by outside and in adjacent apartments. It works well and has a good volume range, but after my constant use of it for about 6 months, it began to cut out and be a bit finicky when turning up the volume. Now, you have to turn the volume level up to a certain spot before it works consistantly. When turning the volume knob, it cuts out and in until you hit just the right spot. It's a cheap option for occasional use and has nice noises, but if you use it frequently as I do, you may want to go with a more expensive model or replace it about once a year or so.
