I bought this product several years ago. Our bedroom is close to the living room and I use the sounds to drown out noises from the TV and conversations in the house. My husband uses this also when he works nights and this helps him sleep while life goes on outside the bedroom. We mainly use the Waterfall sound, but the sound of birds chirping for an alarm is a relaxing way to wake up. The volume is great, can be very quiet or very loud for an alarm or for drowning out a tv show.
I also love the time projection onto the ceiling. To roll over and to look at the clock can wake me up. When you just have to open your eyes and look up isn't disturbing when sleeping. The light can be dimmed on the back of the clock so as not be disturb sleeping.
Setting this clock is the easiest I have ever had. Back up battery is great when electricity goes off, and you can wake up to buzzer, radio, or sound. I only wish that I could set a different sound and volume to go to sleep with vs the sound to wake up to. I use my cellphone for an alarm so this is not a big problem. The radio is average for a clock radio. I am not a radio user at night so not a problem for me.

After reading the reviews and trying this unit myself, I think I can see why someone was having problems with the unit keeping time. All you need to do is press the "hour" or "minute" button and the time changes, unlike some clocks where you have to hold a button down in order to change the time. For people like me who blindly smack the clocks until you find the snooze bar in the morning, this could create a problem. Also, by hitting any of the buttons other than the snooze bar when the alarm is going off, you turn the alarm off for the day (it's reset for the next day). Again, if you're a snooze slapper you risk turning the thing off without realizing it and oversleeping. I'm a little concerned about this, but I kept the receipt so I'll give it a shot.
Otherwise, it's not bad. The sound quality is about par for a clock radio speaker, and the projection is a nice feature. For those worried about the time set and alarm issues though, I'd recommend Timex, who has 4 or 5 models of nature sound clock radios ranging in options from basic to loaded. None of them have projections, but I'd rather roll over and look at the time than risk running late.

I bought this machine to replace my old alarm clock and to provide a soothing sleep environment. I took the clock out of the box and was able to work the machine without using the instruction manual. I played with the projected time on the ceiling and thought it was "pretty" but I don't use that part of the machine because I like my room to be completely dark at night. My kids love that part of the alarm clock and are begging me to buy them one for their rooms. The buzzer's volume is adjustable. I have the machine right next to my bed and I can easily adjust the sounds without having to get out of bed. The clock also has a battery back up that keeps me from resetting the clock when the electricity goes off.
The only thing I find annoying about this machine is that the light is so bright. That is why I rated the item a 4 and not a 5. I find that the light (without having the projected light on)is so bright that I wake up when I face the direction of the clock. I have been putting a piece of dark material over the clock during the night. It works great.
I love the rain and the thunderstorm sounds. I recommend this item.
Customer Review: Wake up to nature sounds for a reasonably low price

I had this on my wish list for a long time and eventually found one for 24.99 at TJMaxx. My biggest concern was the reviews saying the nature sounds were poor. I think they are just as good or better than the nature sounds on other machines like this. I have two of the simple versions that make the sounds only with no clock features. They aren't the most natural sounds since the recording is so short that the repeat of the sound clip is noticeably short. If you get over that and still like it, then this one will please you just as much or more. I want to wake up to the nature sounds, but the radio and beep options are nice to have on the clock too I guess. The projection seems a luxury but at least now I don't have to move out of my half-sleep stage to see if the alarm is about to go off. Overall I have to give this a great review and say the only things that would make it better would be if it had the sun lamp too, that puts a sun glow in the room as you wake, and the super natural nature sounds with a longer recorded sound clip. But you just don't see that for this price. I'm glad I got this one and will use it for the long term.Customer Review: A Great Value

When I bought this unit it was for a single purpose: To be able to fall asleep despite living below noisy neighbors. I'm sure the alarm clock and radio work great, but I haven't tried either -- I've only used this item as a sound machine. As a sleep aid, it is probably one of the better values you will find on Amazon. It sports a number of different sounds, some better than others, but none of them authentic enough to make you feel like you're "there". Of course for what I'm using it for I could care less if the waterfall sounds "real" -- I just need it to block out surrounding noises and for that it works great! The volume control on the unit allows you to crank it up to the point where you'll be oblivious to just about anything going on around you with the exception of low frequency noise (e.g. bass). The single small speaker on this unit just isn't going to be able to compete with your neighbor's subwoofer and that is my single complaint when it comes to this unit. To its credit other sound machines aren't particularly good at dealing with bass either, but that fault is the only thing that keeps me from rating this unit 5 stars.
