Customer Reviews of HoMedics SS-4000 Sound Spa Classic Deluxe Clock Radio & Sound Machine with Time ProjectionCustomer Review: Beautiful, Blue Light with Tranquil Sounds Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the HoMedics Sound Spa Clock Radio for use as a travel alarm-clock and sound machine. It works well for both purposes. The six different soothing-sounds come through a good-size speaker, given the unit's light weight, and ensure a restful sleep in a hotel room or other noisy location. The rain sound is particularly pleasing.
I like the radio because the manual volume and frequency dials are easy to operate compared to more cumbersome digital controls on other clock radios. The buttons on the radio are also easy to use. The sound quality is acceptable for music and fine for talk radio.
The clock projection feature is useful and aesthetically pleasing though a bit bright for my eyes in a totally dark sleeping area. It also works as a night-light casting a beautiful, blue glow over the room. The power adapter is small with ample cord length. The unit packs easily and I take it with me almost everywhere I travel.

Customer Review: We Sleep Soundly With This Machine Summary: 4 Stars
My husband and I bought this at the end of summer when we stopped using an oscillating fan in our bedroom. It was so quiet I could not sleep through the night.
It took a couple of nights to get the volume to an acceptable level. We also had to cover up the face of the machine with clothing to get rid of the BRIGHT GREEN glow of the numbers and the power light.
We have ended up fixing that dilemma with black electrical tape placed strategically over the numbers and the power light. We did NOT by this machine to use as an alarm clock, only as a sound machine, so covering the numbers was a viable option for us which worked beautifully.
We only use the waterfall sound as it is most like a fan or static type sound. I've slept like a baby ever since we bought it. In the summer e will go back to the fan in the bedroom, but this will come out every fall.
Oh yeah, the blue numbers, that can shine on the ceiling with the flick of a switch, are a nice soothing wake-up function my husband uses to wake me up. It beats a blaring overhead light or table lamp. :)
Customer Review: Projection is great - but not useful as an alarm clock. Summary: 3 Stars
I hate having to roll over at night to see what time it is. I bought this clock so that I could just glance at the ceiling to see the time.
Pros:
The projection is truly top quality. I love the manual focus which allows me to achieve a sharp display customized for my ceiling height. Furthermore, the display is visible and sharp without creating extra light in the room at night.
Cons: It doesn't function well as an alarm clock. First, the radio quality is definitely subpar. But most importantly, the machine itself is reasonably lightweight, and if you roll over to hit the snooze, you are very likely to knock the projection mechanism. Then you will have to readjust it if you want the display to appear at a specific spot on your ceiling.
In sum: If you are looking for projection, this is a wonderful product. But use it as a secondary machine to your alarm clock or you will have to continually adjust the projection. I keep this on a shelf and continue to use a different machine as my actual alarm clock.
Customer Review: Doesn't terrify you awake and the ceiling clock is a cool nightlight Summary: 5 Stars
I have been searching for the perfect nature sounds alarm clock and I believe this one is it. I do not like waking up to buzzers because they scare the heck out of me and cause my heart rate to race for half an hour. I don't like waking up to music because then I get "ear worms" for the rest of the day, unable to get that first song out of my head. Worst of all is waking up to annoying, idiotic morning radio shows! I disagree with those who don't like the nature sounds on this clock. They are much better than other nature clocks I've had. I was skeptical about the ceiling clock, but it's kind of cool. I use it as a nightlight to relax in bed before turning it off and going to sleep. (It gives off too much ambient light for me to leave on all night.) It gives a nice blue "moon glow" to the room that helps me relax. You can see the clock fairly well in the daytime if your room is not completely bathed in sunlight.
The only thing I would change on this clock is to have the volume start low and then gradually increase until you wake up.
Customer Review: A great wake-up Summary: 4 Stars
We love the design and features of this versatile clock. The nature sounds must be digitized samples - they sound like, well ... nature! A timer allows us to choose to leave the sound of rain or waterfall or ocean running all night or for as little as a few minutes to provide a nice backdrop for getting to sleep. The alarm feature allows us to choose radio or nature sound or buzzer - a great addition if you, like us, enjoy hearing nature sounds all night, this allows you to wake up to a totally different sound. We have not needed the lens that projects the time on the ceiling since the display is bright and very readable at night. The only flaw we've found is there's no dial or digital display for the radio -- you have to either have infinite patience to guess which is your favorite as you move through AM or FM frequencies. The easiest way is to turn on a reference radio, then find the signal on the clock. Don't plan on easily finding your second favorite station! With the addition of a digital frequency selector, I'd give the product 5 stars.
