Customer Reviews of HoMedics SS-4000 Sound Spa Classic Deluxe Clock Radio & Sound Machine with Time ProjectionCustomer Review: Love it (almost completely)... Summary: 4 Stars
I love the projection alarm/sound machine. The ceiling projection was a little weird at first, but I love not having to lift up to look over my husband to see what time it is. (That sounds SOOO lazy, but at 2:00 in the morning, who wants to move much?) It also turned out to be a nice, soft blue glowing "night light" for when I tiptoe to bed (I'm the night owl). There is only one exception to a complete endorsement: since the second night, the final digit of the ceiling projection has not lit up. I don't know whether this is a product defect, or if I just need to adjust something. I don't think about it until I go to bed, and by then I don't care for very long. It's not important enough to me to go through the complaint/return process...I can still see the time on the regular clock "face". The sound machine is wonderful. I especially like the rainfall. The waterfall also provides a nice white noise. I probably would have loved the ocean waves as well, but those goofy gulls eliminated that choice.
Customer Review: Cute and Compact Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this clock because I just wanted a projection clock and the sounds seemed like an extra. Its well made but I'm not completely happy with it. First the projection light beams a bright blue light onto the ceiling which is way to bright at night. I tried to dim the light with tape, but now its only blurred. The projection arm stops at a 90 degree angle facing forward...so to get the arm to lower you have to turn the clock away from you to adjust the tilt of projection...annoying. The sounds are OK, if you listen closely thought you can hear the repetition in the sounds playing over and over again. It irritates me more than relaxes me. One more thing...I placed in on the dresser and kept hearing a buzzing sound, when I took it off the dresser and placed it on the bed, the noise disseapered, it took a minute to figure out it was too close to my cordless phone. Now I have to keep my phone on the floor when the clock is playing noise...annoying.
Customer Review: Garbage Summary: 1 Stars
As others have mentioned, the projector broke in about a week. It was not mistreated or even *moved*. The sounds all suck, period, unless you think /dev/urandom catted through a 1 cent speaker is soothing. The design is plain terrible - whoever decided that there should be non-activated buttons on clocks to adjust the time must hat people who, you know, actually *use* things. Translated that means there is an hour an a min button that change the time if you happen to mistakenly hit them - there is no "set time" switch or timed hold feature. Worse than that, *every* button on the clock is the same shape and easy to hit by mistake when going for the snooze *bar* which makes using this clock an exercise in paranoia if you actually want to snooze because of all the different fun ways you can easily change the time or turn off the alarm. Do not buy this unless you hate money. I plan to set fire to mine when I run out of kindling this winter.
Customer Review: It's good until its starts to fall apart Summary: 1 Stars
This is the 3rd Homedics alarm clock that I have owned. I bought them all for the same reasons - looked simple, looked like it had the features I wanted and had all the cool sound machine stuff.
You get exactly this - I have no gripes about that. However, these devices are poorly made - after a while every single one has developed the same symptoms:
- intercepts RF signals or something to make horrible noises while it is off (on it own)
- same aweful sounds play during while listening to the white noise generator stuff
- in the middle of the night these aweful sounds wake me up
This has made me kinda upset that I need to go out and get a new alarm clock - especially when I like what I have. Anyhow - these are poorly made - it happens roughly 1.5yrs of daily use.
I'd buy it again if I thought they put better electronics in it. I'm now looking for a new alarm clock :-(
Customer Review: Mine has been working since it first came on the market ! Summary: 5 Stars
HoMedics Sound Spa and Classic Clock Radio with Time Projection is all good and well and the functionality is wonderful, however I only use the LCD Clock and the Sound Spa and it has worked without fail for over 10 years, since it first came out on the Market and I picked mine up at Bed, Bath and Beyond. My only problem is I live in Tornado Alley (KS) and whenever we have a severe thunderstorm and lose power, I lose my clock and sound spa which causes me to 'wake up' immediately. I am hooked on the sound ! There is a way that you can put a 'back up' battery into the machine, thus never losing time or sound, but I can't seem to get the battery into the machine. Buy at least one of these, great gift, great for home and one for travel; if you live in condo or apartment it is great to have one in every room as the 'white noise' blocks out your neighbors annoying sounds. Really, get several, you will not be sorry.
