Customer Review: Best Relaxation Aid Ever! & a good Science demonstration as well

***** I first encountered this wonderful little fountain at a massage therapist appointment. With no other lights on in the room, it provided enough light for me to change and get on the table; its light flickers like a real candle (with no fear of accidental fire); and - with my eyes closed - its gentle burble is a real aid to relaxation.
***** I bought one for the classes I teach in relaxation and meditation.
***** It is also a great night light for those nights I can't sleep well and have to get up regularly.
***** Now I have to get another one - a friend loves candles, but after her house burned down, she could not stand to be around open flames. I have bought her several "fake" no-flame candles - but they simply do not flicker in a realistically random way -- this fountain does!
***** You might say this is also an aid to metaphysical thought - how interesting it is that the best way to fake a flame - is with water! The scientist in me says - well, duh, it is just the effect of turbulant flow on light transmission through fluid -- whether caused by tumbling water or by heated air!

I bought this fountain last year. And altho I loved it at first, it wasn't long before it stopped working. First the lights go out, then the pump starts acting up and barely spitting water out. Keep in mind, I cleaned the fountain once a week, including making sure the pump wasn't covered over with that icky film it'll get from the water.
I've purchased several different HoMedics fountains in the past. I've come to realize that none of them hold up - especially if it runs 24/7 (but hey, isn't that the point of buying an indoor fountain in the first place?) If you want a fountain, I strongly suggest paying more money for the better brands. Because in the long run, you'll end up throwing your money away time and time again to replace these cheap Homedics fountains.

I've found this to be pretty nice. yes, it VERY MUCH made of plastic, all of it lol, but it seems to be holding up pretty well. I've had it for two months and although i got it for a little mood lighting with the wife it's seen more use as mesmerizing 'art' for my 3 and 5 year old daughters. For some reason they absolutely love this thing.
As far as noise goes, if you let the water get just a little too low the pump starts gasping, getting both air and water. once you top it off it gets pretty quiet again. In a dark room there's probably a little bit too much light going on, so if the lights start burning out, as they seem to do with the other reviews, I think it'll still be ok.

I just love this little thing, BTW the web was the only place I could get the three tier after checking five stores in my area. Anyway I wanted the three tier, not the two or one, so I was willing to pay a little extra. And right now at Amazon's current price while I'm writting this it's just shy of five dollars cheaper than what I got it for at the Homedics site, see at the time of purchase Amazon only had it through other retailers and as we know they love to charge you an arm and a leg for shipping. Anyway it's a great little fountain, doesn't take up much room and produces more than it's fair share. Relaxing and the light effect is an added bonus you shouldn't pass up.Customer Review: Soothing and relaxing before sleep

I've bought 2 of their fountains. A different one for work and this one for the bedroom.
The fountain creates a really nice shimmering light in the room when the water flows over the lights (LEDs) of the the flickering "candles". The shimmering glow and sound of the water has really been relaxing for my wife and I to fall asleep to. The flickering is very realistic too(looking from the side - from the top, you see the LEDs).
I've only had it a month, so the jury is still out on its longevity. If it lasts over a year, I'd recommend it for the very low price and the relaxing atmosphere it provides.
