I chose and purchased this item based on stars/reviews given in comparison to similar products sold here on Amazon. I have degenerative joint disease and degenerative discs in my neck. I have frequent muscle spasms in the lower neck and upper back, where I cannot reach. I prefer a good massage but that is not practical. I did have some concern regarding some reviews indicating this item is heavy, I do have limitation of lifting and carrying items greater than 5 lbs. When the item arrived, I thought that it seemed bulky and heavy but this is part of the design of this massager.
I am able to massage my neck and upper back easily by myself. I hold it as I would a back scratcher, with my right hand to move it over my left shoulder and with both hands for the middle area of the upper back. it does seem a bit awkward to use on my low back but it works better than those mat chair massagers. My husband is a physical therapist and he approves of this massager. The massaging knobs are well spaced, to hit the muscles running up and down along the sides of the spinal column. I have a small build, my husband has a large build and he is also pleased with using this on his low back. I love the heat option, it takes about 2 min before the heat is felt and seems to be about the right temperature. The heat setting cannot be used by itself but it can be turned off. The extendable arm is helpful as well. There are only 2 massage settings, the low setting is adequate but the high setting is just too strong for me. This particular massager looks like its going to hold up well. This is a vibrating massager, the knobs do not move up and down, the name is deceiving if you are searching for a percussion massager. I use this massager at least twice a day. This is an excellent value and it is great in helping me manage my painful condition.
